Clamps Review Good clamp
The clamp is very usful and I like the jack-type option. I lifted my jetted tub and it made a three man job into a single man job without any blood or missing body parts. Good tool for the money.

Clamps Review Pleased with performance
These jacks work well both to clamp and spread. The way they are designed, allows one to insert the spreading jaws into as little as a 1/4" of space and then lift or spread them apart. I jack up sagging doors so I can more easily tighten the hinge screws. They are made in China and so the so quality of construction is not superb, I had to send one set back for replacement as the attachment screw for one of the jaws was missing and I couldn't put in a new one as the hole had no threads. I have to commend Amazon.com though because they had a new set shipped out to me in days, even before I sent the old ones back! I tried to jack up my car with one of them, but the plastic handle broke because I put too much force on it, but they replaced that one too, so now I know what their limitations are.

Clamps Review Great for flooring
I bought a pair to install 500 sq/ft of 5/8 pre-finished bamboo flooring. Like another reviewer said, I have to commend Amazon.com for their service. One arrived damaged, and Amazon.com overnighted a replacement. Kudos to them.

The quick clamp feature was good when I had to do a 180 degree turn to square up and install custom tongues, and the jack feature is invaluable for racking the planks when I'm so close to the wall that I can't even use my T&G pneumatic nailer. They paid for themselves on the first use. A definite must have if you plan to do any serious wood floor installs.

Clamps Review not such a bargain.
these little guys are great - however the web page shows a retail price of 33.86 - the same item in the catalog is only 23.99. You do the math - an offer of 21.94 just isn't that great over 23.99. Truth in advertising?

Clamps Review Great Clamps
These clamps have been around for ever. Any good woodworking shop has a pile of them. Get them in pairs at a minimum and get a variety of sizes you won't be sorry. They last a lifetime and more.

Oh yeah the other dimension you need to know is the distance from the tip to the middle spindle on this clamp is 7 inches.

Clamps Review Great device
When I have to get an extra hand, this tool comes really handy. It adjust quickly and without hazzle.

Clamps Review Made a mess.....
Get a real panel saw!!! This thing slipped at the edges, put large dents in my wood when it held, bowed in the center where the two pieces of angle were joined. Basically, you might as well use a piece of iron and a couple clamps. It is definitely not for precision work. I wrecked 2 sheets of plywood (1/4" off in the center of an 8' pieces and up to 1/4" slip on the end) before I decided to borrow a real cabinet saw. I would definitely not recommend it for anything.

Clamps Review nearly perfect, but for a few things
i purchased this set after seeing it in the catalogue and thinking it was a great idea.

pros: will cut a perfectly straight line on up to full sheets diagonally. stores well when disassembled. inexpensive.

cons: if the sheets are not supported, or if you're on the roof (my first time using it was on a 7/12 cutting 5/8 OSB at a 45deg bevel for overframes) the lines can be less than perfect. it also adds a slight set up time when compared with a chalkline.

my major complaint is that the saw base did not mount well to my porter cable saw boss 6" saw. i bought the pps-2 specifically because i had this spare saw lying around and intended to dedicate the saw to use with it. i eventually made it work, but only after moving the saw farther over on the base than the specifications called for and after cutting some of the base off with a grinder. before i cut the base, bevels beyond 25deg were impossible.

so, for the price the pps-2 is a great tool to have, but don't expect it to be super-easy to set up. if conditions are controlled, however, better than factory edges are possible.

Clamps Review Smooth & Straight
I have made about a 100 cuts on pegboard using my new PPS-2 and every cut is smooth and straight -- just like a factory edge. It is everything I hoped it would be.

Clamps Review Finally saw a demo of this unit.
Previously, I tried two different sears craftsman versions which kicked out the release button when I tightened the holding knob.

At the home improvement show this fall, I got to play with this unit at the Wilton booth. It had a metal looking piece which kept the release unit from self releasing and if you overtightened-the unit just clicked but held on solid. I was pleased to see this. I found another Wilton in a hardware store with non-metal looking pieces which was what the sears ones had in them but didn't bother to buy it.

Clamps Review Great product, awful packaging
I find this a fine product for light work. It does double duty as a convenient wide-jawed clamp or spreader.

But whoever designed the hard plastic packaging should spend eternity in hell unwrapping these things. NO thought was given to the buyer's convenience. Even with sharp industrial shears, it is VERY difficult to remove from the packaging. I would not buy another for that reason alone. In fact, the one I received already had half the package cut away as if someone had given it up and returned it rather than bloody his fingers.

Clamps Review Excellent product _ Wilton Multi-Grip
I already owned one but had the need for another. I have not found anything in the market which offers the flexibility that this product does.

Clamps Review Could be better engineered
While I love my Bessey clamps, these blocks are less than impressive. The clamp falls below the block top creating an uneven surface for the glue up. The blocks should be made not to protrude above the clamp bar. That way the clamp bar provides a straight resting area for the wood to lay flat.

I will try to remove the top quarter inch from the blocks to make them usable. Otherwise make your own.

Clamps Review Nice to have, but....
if you have time, you can make yourself a set of these with 4x4. These things are handy when you clamp things like frame, cabinet door or even small window frame like I did recently (I have 40" and 50" Bessey's). They hold the clamps level and square once set. But if you have a dado blade, you could make yourself a set of these with 2x2 or 4x4 blocks and save some money. It seems to me only one slot being used at a time, so you don't have to cut two parallel slots on the same block only two perpenticular ones, one deep one shallow.

Clamps Review Inspect it before you buy
The clamp looks great until you start look closer at it. If you look at the lower jaw you will notice that the hole for the hand screw is usually not drilled staight or in the center. When the screw is not straight it can cause the work to misalign as you tighten it or if it's not drilled in the center, can weaken the clamp. I still like the clamps but when I buy them I go to the store and inspect each one I buy. I don't mind spending extra for quality tools but I think Bessey can do better than this.

Clamps Review Not a bad Intermediate Clamp
This is a pretty decent clamp. If you need a real clamp though go with a K-body or a JORGENSEN Cabinet Master Clamp.

Works great when used with face frame clamps.

Clamps Review Bessey wins in medium duty as well
The nice thing about the Bessey Tradesmen's is that they are heavier duty than the competition, in the medium duty class, and you don't have to take out a second mortgage to afford a set of them. The locking mechanism works without any hassles, and the grip is strong. All in all a nice piece of equipment. A major competitor sells this model for less money, but it is also a lighter weight clamp. I like them all. Bessey makes great stuff, you can't go wrong with these. They are a great general-purpose clamp. Highly recommended.

Clamps Review K Clamp Bessey vs Gross Stabil
I own several K Clamps from Bessey and I am not very happy with it. The major thing is the plastic. In case the Clamps fall, it will break immediatly. I had this experience a few times. You can not even get any spare parts.
The Gross Stabil Clamps which I own last longer and not one broke. But even if it would, you can buy the parts seperate.

Everything else is fine with both Clamps. There is no difference in the daily use.
The good thing on the Gross Clamps is that they are a few $ cheaper, but not huge amounts.

Clamps Review best klamps I own
Until I bought a few pair of these things I couldn't understand what the fuss was about. You put wood between two pieces of metal connected by a screw - it's clamped! Wrong, oh, wrong was I. I've since bought a "few" more:-) I bought some of the bigger K-body's as well for their size and strength, but they are heavier and cost a lot more. And as the other review stated, if you can't figure out how to use 'em - send 'em to me - I can't get enough clamps in the shop!

Clamps Review Great Clamping Power, Lighter than the "Big" Besseys

First of all, I laughed until my sides hurt from reading that other review. What the heck was going on there?

Anyway, it wasn't written by anyone who used these clamps. I have some of them, and here's the "real deal." First of all, they're Besseys, so the quality is typical Bessey -- first rate. If you're buying these to upgrade from the orange "Pony" brand clamps, the Besseys are a definite improvement. They're much much heavier. If, on the other hand, you're going to compare them to the standard Bessey's, which are much more $$$, you're not going to be pleased.

The real benefit with the UniKlamp is the light weight. Many times, I would reach for Pony's or some other light-duty clamp just to keep from having to wield one of the big Besseys, since they're so heavy. The UniKlamp is somewhere in-between the two, and I find myself using them an awful lot. In fact, they're my favorite clamp now.

Oh... and if you can't figure out how to use them (as in the other review), send them to me!

Be safe!

Clamps Review
Gross Stabil H3857 24" Squared Parallel Clamps
Made by Gross Stabil
    Amazon base price: $
    Average review score: Clamps Review

Clamps Review Worked well, for a while
I build custom cabinets and furniture for a living, just for reference. I ordered the Gross Stabil clamps looking for a larger clamping surface, increased travel and quicker action. According to Fine Woodworking, the Gross Stabil PC Squared matched those criteria. The clamps worked well, for a short while. The problem seems to be in the connection between the clamping head and the handle/acme screw. There is a washer that is used to engage the items being clamped, twist too hard, which wasn't too hard at all, and the washer slips off the acme screw when the clamp is released. Since the washer is cold-headed into place, there is no way to re-attach it, therefore rendering the clamp useless. The first time it happened I thought it was a fluke, four clamps later told me it wasn't. I've returned to the Bessey and Jorgensen parallel clamps, prefering the Bessey, though the Jorgensen is a close second because of some flimsy materials/assembly.

    Clamps Review Superior Clamps
This line of clamps are vastly superior to equivalent offerings from Bessey or Jorgensen. They are better designed, better finished and non marring. Bessey Clamps that I purchased just a few month earlier are showing signs of corrosion. After three years, the 50 Gross Stabil clamps I purchased remain in beautiful condition.

If you need a clamp to crush concrete blocks with; then buy a set of pipe clamps. If you are a professional woodworker, or a serious hobbiest who works with wood - these are the clamps to buy.

    Clamps Review Excellent quality
I bought my first Stabil parallel clamps on sale at a local woodworking shop they were 4 60" and 4 48" I have used them almost daily and have never experienced any problems with them, including when really tightening them down doing bent laminations (before I got a vaccum press which is far superior). The previous reviewer who mentioned repeatedly breking them, I don't know if he is using an impact wrench to tighten them :) but I have never had a problem. Also, these clamps are reversible for spreading, a feature that Bessey only offers on a few of the K-body clamps and charges more for. These are far superior to the Jorgensen which are junk, especially the newer ones, and are equal to Bessey at a better price.

Clamps Review These clamps leave oily stains on your work.
A word of caution about these clamps. The pads on the jaws of these clamps is made of an oily plastic that makes oily marks on the wood.
Cleaning the pads with solvent doesn't help and getting the oil off the wood is difficult/impossible.

I've contacted the manufacturer and they are aware of the problem. They recommend going over the oily marks with solvent two or three times. Then, they recommend that you apply wood stain to the project.

To read more Amazon reviews about this problem, check the 12 inch version of this same clamp.

Even with the problem I've just described, I have to say that these are strong, well-made, quality clamps....if you remove the plastic pads.

    Clamps Review Very Good Clamps
Good clamps. Not Bessey, next best thing and cheaper. 4 stars only cause their wooden handles look like they were made in Iraq.

Clamps Review A matter of preference
I believe the HD Jorgensens are the best bar clamps available. Bessey's tradesman are good, but can be a little inconsistant on the quality control end & a little too expensive. Record's are good too but very expensive. I prefer the Jorgensen's clutch, it holds better. You can snug the clamp up tight enough to hold the work yet still make adjustments just by pushing it together, an excellent feature. Jorgensen's pads are top notch, they're thick & soft & truly protect the work. The Jorgensen swivel allows you to clamp up to about a 15 degree angle with no additional clamping aids, very nice. I like the big wooden handles, I find them easy on the hands. Untill someone comes up with a better featured bar clamp, "Jorgies" will remain the prefered clamp on my workbench.

Clamps Review Didn't work for me, tore up work
I like the Kreg equipment and do lots of pocket hole jointery, so this seemed like a great addition - but it isn't. The trouble is the clamp is very heavy, and is fitting into a small pocket hole. Clamp it too tight, and it blows out the top of the pocket hole, marring your workpeice - and the same can happen if you do not somehow support this heavy clamp. If you do get one, don't use it on any surface that will ever be visable (i.e. a hole you are going to fill with a plug) and don't use it in an area you don't want marred. Pocket holes jointery is simple, efficient, and easy - this clamp is the exact opposite.

Clamps Review What can I say? It works great for me.
I received my clamp yesterday and tried it out today. It worked great. If you have drilled your pocket holes properly (to the correct depth) and you adjust the pressure of the "vise grip" correctly, you can seat the pin side firmly into the pocket hole and clamp the two pieces together. I was able to hold the two pieces with ample force with absolutely no damage to the pieces. I'm glad that I purchased it. It is much faster than trying to use normal corner clamps. Nothing like having the right tool for the job.

    Clamps Review Get Two!
I had to buy this at a store, but it was worth it. I'm going to order a second one here at the better price. I just used it to attach 1x2 solid wood edging to plywood for a table top. The top joint line was perfectly smooth to the fingertip over a 6 foot length, because I was able to adjust it as I was going down the edge. That would never happen with a biscuit jointer! If you are looking at the Kreg Tools, get the Pocket System and one or two of these and you will save a lot of time and don't have to buy a biscuit joiner.
