Perfect balanceI have 6 different hammers, even a Douglas ($64.00) and this one is my favorite for driving nails. I am a do it yourselfer, so I don't drive nails for a living. I don't need a 24oz framer for weekend projects. But I do everything from building furniture to working with rough timbers with this hammer. The rip claws make short work of pulling nails and demo work. I frequent hardware/Home Depot type stories and find myself checking out hammers now and then, and this baby still feels right, wonderful balance, a wood handle that is turned to fit your hand and the 16 oz head is the right weight between a finish hammer and a framer.

The Best Framing Hammer I OwnThis hammer almost seems to drive framing nails itself - it has a lively quickness to the swing, and is never tiring. It's lightweight on the tool belt, and is very tough. The quality of the design and manufacturing is clearly superior to other hammers. I own around 14 hammers, and this is my favorite, hands down.

The best you will ever ownThis hammer is the best you will find. The look us similar to the Estwing hammers yet that is where the similarities end. The Vaughan hammer is far superior. The balance is amazing. This hammer swings itself. You will never use another hammer after you get this one. I have numerous hammers, different manufacturers and weights. I always reach for this one. It will drive nails, pull nails, and perform any demolition job you put it to. I have the fancy tuning fork hammers that are supposed to reduce fatigue, I have wooden handled including the hatchet type handled hammers, none perform anywhere near as good as this hammer.
Writing this review has done it for me all my hammers are going to be loaded up and sold at the flea market, no reason to have them laying around rusting.
Don't waste your money on any other hammer buy this one and never buy another hammer, unless you just like it so much you want another one to have as a spare.

It's not just for pounding nails! This hammer is awesome! I can use it to nail something if I want, and this pounds it in with good force, but it's good for so much more. When I need to find a stud, I whip it out, and hit the wall until I hear the stud on the other side. The claw can pull nails too. I love the feel of the handle in my hand. The rubber has a comfortable feel, and I can really get a good grip on the handle. Nobody ever picks a fight with someone who is holding a hammer. I have one in my car too. Be very careful though. If you hit your finger with it when you're swinging, it will hurt a lot. Make sure your aim is true and keep your swinging velocity at a safe level. I LOVE hammers. This hammer made an excellent addition to my collection. So if you have this hammer, you know how I feel, and it is a part of you. If you don't have a hammer yet, buy this one. It will become something very special you will cherish for a very long time.

Best hammer value in the world.Until Douglas hammers came along, this hammer was without peer for framing and general carpentry. And it still is in the value department, as Douglas costs 2 1/2 times as much.
Caveat: I've never been a fan of the 'California' style, fat, squat head. Or curved, 'axe' style handles. Or macho 32 oz. heads for framing. Or mega bucks titanium that you're not supposed to smack a cat's paw with. I prefer the feel of a wood handle, but (except for the Douglas design) they break to easily to be practical.
You can yank and reef on the FS999ML's fiberglass handle all day, and it's the nicest feeling non-wood handle I've used. The hammer's weight, balance and feel is near perfect. Not much else to say. Unless you already know your favorite hammer is something else, this is the one to get. Peace.

Vaghan Bushnell Shingling HatchetDon't ever fail to stock this item. You don't find it in many places. In addition to its common use it is indispensible in the tree farming business. I use it to cut holes in thick bark. Because of its 2 1/8 blade and its balance it is extremely useful. I have tried many other hatchets and none of them work well.

Great bang for the buck I run a framing outfit and swing a hammer full time for a living. Titanium is the only way to go and 16oz seems to be just the right weight. I'd say this thing swats nails in a manner comparable to a 22 oz steel hammer, with about a 1/4 of the fatigue and elbow shock.
I've owned and swung all of the titanium hammers, from the first generation Stiletto Ruger to the $200+ Stiletto Ti-Bone and this is, by far, my favorite.
The great thing about buying a Vaughn hammer is that I've found their hickory handles to be superior to most other manufacturer's choices. I always get a very respectable service life out of the original handles before they need replacing. My current Ti-tech is about 10 months old and still has it's original handle. That's unheard of. Vaughn seems to have really mastered the handle to head connection through all their years of producing high quality hammers.

Excellent quality hammerWell balanced, sure grip and comfortable to handle. I've had my unbreakable sledge for 2 years now and love to use it. I haven't had any problems so far, although I wish they were available at more outlets.
