More Dependable than TimexThis is one of the best heavy equipment/demolition tools I've ever used on the job. A few months back I needed to rent one for some work I was doing on my basement, breaking up old concrete. After I used it for a couple of days, I went out and bought one for work (I'm a demolition contractor). This is much easier to control than most 60-90lb pneumatic jack hammers. I'm not a very muscular person, but I didn't have any difficulty handling it and it never walked on me. If you need a medium to heavy duty jack hammer, I'd recommend purchasing or renting this over most pneumatic hammers because it's easy to use, it's reliable, the steel bits it uses are widely available and you don't have to lug around a huge compressor.

Best Log Dog Chip Hammer on market to dateAfter years (20) of use of this and other models and brands, this particular model makita still stands head and shoulders above all others for both performance and durability in the hard daily use of the log home industry. It has suplanted all other makes and models to become the industry standard. Still it(and virtually all others) require minor modification in this application: Lose the sappy varro-handle, and create your own 2-3"x long log gouge. Or have it created for you (spendy).

Makita HP2010NI bought the Makita HP2010N back in 1990 and still have and use it today. It has been used extensively in hammer-mode with a 3-5/8" hole saw to cut holes for ceiling pan boxes in oak beams and for overhead drilling on post and beam construction. It will spin a 7/8" X 18" Greenlee Nail Eater in the "High Speed" position repeatedly through 12" solid oak beams with very little effort.
The "chuck is very good and when properly tightened, never seems to let the bit slip even under heavy hammering in masonry. This hammerdrill is heavier than the others I currently own and although it has a " masonry capacity, it is slightly slower to complete holes when drilling in hardened concrete, mostly due to the lower impact of the Makita's hammer mechanism. Because of this, I use it mainly for drilling in hollow concrete block, hard wooden beams or metal, where this drill really excels. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy masonry drilling. A rotary hammer is usually a better choice for that type of work, but a hammerdrill such as this one can also do the job satisfactorily sometimes.
The HP2010N is a very rugged and well made tool. During almost twelve years of very hard, on the job use, the only repairs made have been to replace a worn out trigger switch, brushes (due to normal wear) and a damaged power cord.
I would definitely recommend this tool for anyone who is looking for a very durable, long lasting hammerdrill that will only occasionally be used for drilling in masonry.

Bosch EaterI cant believe I'm the first to review this product, Milwaukee
does not have popularity in this category yet but look out they soon will.
I have used this roto hammer for over a year now and its performance is flawless, the only reason I gave it a 4 star is that it lacks a "lock on" switch for hammer only mode, not a big deal for some but for me yes.
This little dog can break 3 inch slab no prob, it drills 1-9/16
holes all day long, it diggs holes in rock hard ground, it scrapes 40 year old linoleun tiles of the floor, it removes any type of floor tile with ease, and many more tasks.
The weight and balance of the tool is phenominal almost zero vibration is generated to your hands. This tool is iron tough
and I would put it against the Bosch and Hitachi for durability
and performance any day.

Outstanding ToolI have had this hammer for about two years and it is a fantastic tool. One description would be POWER, this tool has it to spare it eats up concrete like butter, one inch holes all day no problem. It is also an excellent tool for small demo jobs like taking tile off shower walls and floors too.
Power and durability I give it 10 stars, On the down side: vibration is major and there is no lock on switch for hammer only mode, outside of that excellent tool.

Milwaukee, there is no substitute.Milwaukee invented the sawzall, and in my opinion, they still produce a superior product. The blade changes quickly, and the tool itself seems much more durable than other brands. The drill is excellent. The battery can be inserted so as to allow the tool to stand up on its own, or the otherway to allow for tighter spaces.
Battery life is better than average, and this screw gun/hammer drill complements the Magnum Drill nicely.
A great set.

Two-speed worth the extra costThe Milwaukee 2.4-Volt cordless Screwdrivers are the best on the market. They have awesome power and lock the bit when off so that you can turn the whole unit like a thick screwdriver. However, skip this unit over and get the 2 speed. The small extra cost is well worth the functionality of the two speed unit.

It's ok......Recieved this drill set for xmas. I have an older in line drill driver that has served me well for quite a few years, and it is what I usually reach for on the rare occasion that I use screws. This is not a bad little unit. Not too heavy and it is comfortable to hold. Have only used it to put up a few shelves in the shop and to repair a work table. Did the job well and seems to have enough power to drive even long screws into fairly hard wood. The keyless chuck is a plus, changing from drill bit to driver is simple and quick. The case is all plastic, but is adequate to the job, holds all the parts and pieces well. This is not a tool that I was even thinking of buying, but as a gift it is a good one. Recommend it as an inexpensive drill/driver for the occasional user.
Remember the old saying, though: "Don't force it, get a bigger hammer!" There's a lot of truth to that - you are much more likely IMHO to injure yourself using a 16-oz hammer for a job which needs more force than you will with this hammer. At the same time, get out the sledge for the really big jobs - safer in the long run.
Three pounds is about the right size for me - this comes in 2- and 4-pound varieties, too, and there's a long-handled 4-lb version.
I give this four stars because it's very useful when used for the appropriate job, but it does have limits.
