Hammers Review BUYER BEWARE
SDS bits are for chiseling and masonry and require and SDS chuck (bit holder). Regular wood or metal drilling bits use a standard chuck. The description says you can easily select between hammering, chiseling, or drill only mode but the standard drilling chuck is not included with this drill. I confirmed with Dewalt that this model only comes with the SDS chuck, so you will not be able to use wood or metal bits without a separate adapter.

Hammers Review Considering the cost it is a poor quality product
I was really excited to have a plunge drill. The concept sounded great. The tool store I shop told me it is made by a company from down under.

Upon purchase, I found out it is made is China. The drill is very heavy and when it comes to power it does not come close to other expensive drills. The first time I tried to use it I found the plunge locking clamp to be very stiff. So I used a pair of pliers to gently tighten it and it broke instantly. It seems to be made of pot metal. There is a lot of thin plastic on the body also. One of the batteries would not charge when I first brought it home. I left it alone and the next day it started charging on its own.

I would have expected more for the money. Great concept but poor manufacturing.

Hammers Review excellent concept with good results
I bought this product to drill 3/4s" forstner bit holes in 3/4" MDF for dog holes to match my maple bench top holes for a protective top. The triton did an excellent job. Very beefy, nice hand grip feel and balance, chuck never slipped and is easy to lock bit in. It drilled perfect 90 degree holes and the carry box is well layed out. The light came in handy when drilling up from under the bench to put starter location holes in the mdf sheet. Mine had no problem whatsoever tightning the depth stop screw finger tight with no slip whatsoever. This is a well made product that is definitely worth the price with all the features and extra's that come with it.

Hammers Review Builders Rig Bust
I am thoroughly dissapointed in this item!! It was extremely uncomfortable, the suspenders rubbed my neck all day. The pouches would not stay where I wanted them and liked them for comfortable wear. I have worn combinations of belt and suspenders before with success but never ones desgined to work together. These are a huge dissapointment, and I am glad I only lost $40.00 on the purchase!

Hammers Review TOO BIG FOR MY BRITCHES
I love the whole concept of this item. It is well made and should work for most people in the trades. The caveat is it will not fit well if you are short and thin. The suspender system is made for someone over 5'8" and with at least a 30" waist. I'm back to padded suspenders and a soaking wet (from sweat) waistline.

Hammers Review economical and very comfortable
I have worn several tool belt sets in my trade as a sheet metal worker. This is the most versatile and comfortable in all of my experience. In the past I have had to customize the pouches by adding extra pockets so my many small tools would be easy to find. Totally unnecessary, the Builders Rig has so many pockets and slots that I have yet to use them all. Though, it took a while to get used to my hammer being in the back, it works well for me now. It is the most comfortable of all I have ever worn.

Hammers Review HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
This tool manufactured by Senco is not good quilty and definitly not for professional applications. We have purchased a lot of senco pnumatic products in the past with very good results. This tool had poor results right away in dense woods. After some use the results where sparatic: 1) intrermitent falure to fire, 2) Unpredictable depth in the same piece of material & Jambing often. Both of our Senco AF25 Air free's currently sit out of service.
We have since Purchased sevral Dewalt 18V nailers ( Dewalt has 18V Vs 12V for the Senco ) the Dewalt also has a production seting that allows rapid fire like an air nailer; the Senco on the other hand does not have this feature.
I'm sorry to say, I reccamend a pass on this Senco product.

Hammers Review too bad . . .
When this tool works, it's great. Unfortunately, it's not reliable. I sent it back when the gun quit driving nails--revving up, then dying down--and the Senco dealer place fixed it and sent it back. It worked great . . . until today. Now it won't do anything. I called Senco, and they said it needs repair--the clutch is stuck, and they said that if hitting the thing with a hammer a few times won't free it up, it needs to be repaired. I called the closest repair place and the guy, who sounded tired, told me I could put mine in line with the other 6 he has waiting for backordered parts for repair. Since I need the thing to work when I need it to (I've had it for about a year, and use it for building cabinets) instead of when it feels like working, I guess I'll have to buy a compressor.

Hammers Review Home remodeling
I used it for triming windows. Worked flawlessly. Would sink 2 inch brad nails in solid oak. No cords or hoses to trip on. Excellent tool highly recommend it.

Hammers Review What happened to the quality?
I am a professional carpenter doing finish work in homes. I have used the Bucket Boss tool rig for years and it has been good but never great. What was good was the design--right number of pockets, right places, versatile, lightweight and, with suspenders, comfortable to wear all day long. The problem was that the material did not stand up to the demands of professional use for more than about 6 months. Then BB made one version of this rig with heavier material and, best of all, reinforced pockets that did not sag into uselessness in 6 months. It was perfect. It lasted for about 18 months which is good for a tool belt in constant use. When I ordered the same tool belt 18 months later, it was junk. Not only have they moved away from the quality material, they have gone to a lesser material that would not last 3 months.

Here is the good news for occasional users. This is a good tool belt for the weekend handyman or a summer project. It still has the usefulness of the original design.

But if you are a professional, don't waste your time or money-you will return it.

Hammers Review Good for Light work !
I've used this tool belt rig for over a year now in Florida, doing custom High-end trim work. I'm a professional with over 20 years in the field so I guess I can critique with some authority. The actual waist belt " sucks !" it went directly to the trash ! the left side fastener belt has good storage saving the fact that both small outside pockets lack depth and tend to rip where they are fastened , the steel framing square pocket could be a little deeper too! the pouch also lacks a tape pocket where you can easily access your tape measure , a clip would not be acceptable. The right hand tool pouch is pretty good some more inside partitions wouild be nice but , Oh Well! The hammer holder is useless I've closed the bottoom with a n electrical ty and use it for keeping a skeine of masons line in it. I've added a seperate hammer holder and use a seperate tape holder with the adddition of a STRONG 3" leather belt . I've hhad this belt for awhile as I've said and its time to have it restiched or replaced . Hard to get these things perfect I guess! all in all what can you get for FORTY BUCKS these days

Hammers Review I wouldn't buy any other toolbelt.
I am on my third "contractor's rig". I have something stuffed in every pocket. I re-hab old houses and I do more things than just carpentry. I carry a framing hammer, nails or screws for the job, screwdriver, pliers, cold chisel, awl, nailset, utility knife, crescent wrench, miniature screwdriver, 5 pencils or markers, razor blade scraper, electrical tape, 2-prong plug adaptors, electrical connectors; latex gloves, sandwich bag of misc. fasteners, paper towels, paint can opener, wood dowels, end nippers, wood chisel, nail claw, (2) voltage ticks, flashlight, 25' tape, some other odds and ends, and safety glasses. I like a toolbelt that is lightweight so I can pack around more tools. I like the Contractor's Rig having so many pockets... it has spoiled me for any other toolbelt... I am always on the lookout for a toolbelt with more utility, but I haven't found it yet. I have to use padded suspenders from Nailers with it because of the weight (and to attach my cell phone to), but, the belt is not all that easy to attach suspenders to. I have a 32" waist, which means the two bags, the tape holder bag, and two hammer loops (sometimes I carry an extra hammer or prybar) pretty much fill up the belt for me and still keep the bags off my thighs and to the side when I climb ladders or work on my knees). I have had to make repairs and sew up the toolbags a few times, but if you are using a toolbelt every day it is going to suffer wear and tear. The hammer sleeve makes a great place to store safety glasses.

Hammers Review Poorly made
I drove a total of approximately 50 nails into joist hangers before the hammer end fell off and rolled across the floor. The threads on the shaft that connect it to the nailer had fractured, presumably because this component was incorrectly heat treated. Now I'll go buy a name brand like I should have in the first place.

Hammers Review Good buy for the price
I've been wanting one of these for YEARS! I recently found (and bought) the same tool under the ToolShop name for $49.95. Same Chinese manufacturer, different distributer, no fancy carrying case. The leather glove is a must for comfort and control. The maker should spend a little more and use steel snaps instead of the cheap aluminum ones though. I'm going to get a snap kit and change mine so they stop coming apart. Another small glitch, the size of the nail guide barrel. The inside dimention of the barrel is large enough to accept pole barn nails but anything with a smaller head is hard to control because the tool will tend to strike off-center. I fixed that by making a sleeve from vinyl tubing which fits snug inside the barrel yet allows the striker to move free. Now a 16d nail fits snug in my new sleeve and I can drive casing nail sizes down to 6d with good control and without having to switch to the finish nail barrel for anything larger than a 4d. Another feature that should be added is depth control. The instructions suggest regulating the air pressure down to control depth of set. I suggest either a longer sleeve like I described above or a limiter that can be slipped onto the outside of the barrel to adjust the distance it is allowed to retract into the tool. Performance of the tool is impressive. At 1000 bpm even large nails drive fast, smooth and with almost no effort. With practice and the modifications I've described, one could use this little gem for nailing down decking and putting up lap siding without leaving hammer marks on the walls or exposed heads to run the snow shovel into. Sweet!

Hammers Review Correction on material
I work for TRADESMAN and I feel a need to correct something from the review of eia1805. Although he may be disatified with our Palm Nailer, it's housing is 100% Die-Cast Aluminum, there is no plastic on it. Both Stanley, Senco and Porter Cable as well as the TRADESMAN all have the same basic weight of close to 3 lbs.

It is unfortunate that [some have] had problems with the glove and with the overall usage of the product. We hope that the Porter Cable gives him many years of quality performance.

We have been selling our Palm Naler for over 15 years with great success and very little consumer return. Again we are sorry for the problems we may have caused eia1805.

Hammers Review Garbage. Very poorly made.
I bought one, which broke after a few weeks, returned it for another one -- Customer service was very pleasant and helpful -- and the second one broke after a few more weeks. They both had the exact same problem, wouldn't hold the bit. Useless. Buy something else. Porter Cable used to be a good name in tools, but this was far below any expectations.

Hammers Review Power screwdriver
At best its a power scredriver. As a hammer drill it doesn't compare to the Milwauke which I also own. I actually got a second one of these in a combo kit that had a saw that I wanted. And the forward/reverse clutch on that one is shot. Overall I recommend the Milwauke above this one.

Hammers Review try something else
I've had this cordless for a few years, and it has some major weaknesses. First, the hammer action is far weaker than expected, even for a cordless. P-C (last I heard) was using the same hammer motor for all 3 sizes(voltage ratings).
Also, I have gone through several batteries. Even bought new, they have fried quickly.I have since heard from other contractor types complaints about P-C batteries- weak, go bad or dead quickly....
Thirdly, even though I use my gun mostly for driving short screws to hang pipes, I'm a plumbing contractor, my high range only slips now, and the low range is starting to go too.
It's not the deal I thought it was for sure.
On the pos. side, it has a good feel, balance and torque that I'll be looking for in my next cordless.

Hammers Review Not that good for the money
I bought this drill a few years back and was never happy with it. The chuck on this drill is poor quality as are the gears inside the drill. The batteries are okay. And Porter Cable just doesn't make that good a product anymore.
I switched back to Milwaukee and wondered why I ever changed in the first place.
Buyers beware of this drill.

Hammers Review One of the Best.
I bought my drill in Nov. 2003, and the performance it puts out is outstanding. It's expensive, but it's worth every penny I spent for it. 2 years ago I paid with tax, $230.00 for one, because I was building a patio room and a deck. The power it possess!!! This drill is so powerful, it will drive 6" to 8" bolts in the wall like childs play. I promise you that you will not be sorry if you purchase this one, it's a keeper. WARNING: Be careful if you're driving bolts, this drill will sprang or break your wrist if you're not careful, and I do mean careful, and that's the only down fall. Battery charging, in 1 hour the battery is fully charged, and it last for, (depending on use) heavy 1 to 2hrs, light use 3 - 5hrs, it comes with 2 Batteries. Plus you can have it repaired if it breaks or if you need a part you can order it and replace it yourself, the info is in the case. So all I can tell you now is go and get one.

Hammers Review DIY
It was cheeper to buy this hammer drill with two batteries than to buy just two new batteries. The hammer drill is a nice add to my collection of tools for all my projects.

Hammers Review This Hammer Sucks
Pro Framer in NV. The face on this hammer is so soft that I wore smooth in 3 weeks. Not only that the nail set area had excess metal in the way so when you set a nail with it the nail would bend! A little grinding solved that. But the worst part is the contact angle you get when you strike a nail. It's just a little off so it wants to glance of to the side. Plus the stupid skull emblem falls out in a couple days. If youre a pro DONT BUY THIS HAMMER!!! Going back to my old faithful Vaughn.

Hammers Review Broken Claw
I bought this hammer for my husband for christmas & when he went back to work at the end of January, he used the hammer for 4 weeks and the claw broke off while he was using it. Really disappointing for an $80.00 hammer!!!!

Hammers Review Great Hammer, but has it's Problems
I bought one of these hammers because of wrist and elbow pain, due to periodicly being stuck hammering joist hanger nails and/or galvanized 10d twist nails all day.

It did the trick for the pain, but get a load of this...

My "original" hammer had one hollow claw, and it broke right off while pulling a nail! The store replaced it without question, but today, nine months later, while pulling a 16d nail from a 4x6 green post, the handle broke off just below the head, I guess the nail won ;-)

The closest place to get a replacement is 40 miles away, so it's back to a sore arm until I can make the trip.

If not for the weak handle I'd give it 5 stars, but what's the point of making a $90 hammer with a crummy handle?
