Tool Sets Review Price misleading
To say the retail price is 317.55 is misleading at best. The normal price is 199 and always has been. It is sold at 189 at woodworking shows. Amazon should insist on prices reflecting the actual advertised price. When displayed this way they would appear to be some special markdown.

Tool Sets Review Misleading price
I have no quarrel with the quality of Woodline bits, however the pricing listed here is misleading. The NORMAL price in the Woodline catlog has been for as long as I've had a catlog and still is in their current catalog 199. You could of course buy it here for 219 but I have no idea why. The retail price that is listed is bogus.

Tool Sets Review 100% junk
100% china junk if it's true that you get what you pay for than i got robbed! if you want a good bit set at a low price go to northern tool and equipment

Tool Sets Review Pretty much rubbish
I really wish I had paid more attention. "Cobalt coating" is a non-existent foolishness, but all I saw was the "cobalt" part. It's not clear what these drills are made of, but it ain't a cobalt steel alloy.

Almsot all the number drills are sized wrong, and the several smallest are all the same incorrect diameter. Not serious tools.

Beware. Only the index box is worth having, but it's a pretty expensive box at 60 bucks.

Tool Sets Review Good bits for a great price
These are good bits considering the quantity and quality of the products. The case is nice too. For the $39.99 I paid and free shipping I was well pleased.

Tool Sets Review I Think I Will Continue Using My Drill Press Mortiser
After reading your reviews on the Delta Mortising Tool I think I will continue Using my craftman drill press with mortising atachment. I thought this was hard enough to set up and keep adjusted sounds like I would just be spinning my wheels to buy a new DELTA MORTISER

Tool Sets Review Delta 14-650X review
I had three problems with this unit. First, the poorly cast fence was not square to the table, allowing the work to rock during the mortising action, yielding mortises that were not square. Second, there is no clamp or foot to hold down the work making it very difficult to back out of harder woods. And third, the chuck and key were poor quality with poor fit and rough action.

Tool Sets Review A good tool for the money
In this price range there are pretty much two choices. The Delta and the Jet. I decided to get the Delta. I had no other reason except for my "Delta bias" and hesitancy to get something that's not going to work for me.

I ordered the tool from Amazon. It came fast as stuff from Amazon usually does. The tool went together very easily. You have to install the handle, fence, and pneumatic lifter. It took about 30 minutes to wipe off the protective oil gunk and about 10 minutes to actually put the machine together.

The tool is heavy and it is tall. Since space in my shop is at a premium, I have to clamp the tool on my workbench and then put it away for each project. In addition, the handle in its default position makes the tool fairly tall. I made a large space in my cabinets just for this tool and it has a sliding shelf. This helps a lot when I go to put the mortiser away.

My first cuts were pine. I set up the machine with the premium 1/2" bit that came with the machine as a special promotion. I was building a headboard that required many mortises. They took me less than an hour to cut. I was impressed. You have to apply some pressure on the handle to cut into the wood but not a lot. The bottom of the mortise is not as clean as I like, so I clean it out with a chisel.

I've used the machine on hardwoods and I get similar results. I get acceptable mortises with little effort. The manual suggests positioning the opening of the chisel on either the right or left side. I kept getting packed wood shavings in my mortises. I had to use a screwdriver or chisel to dig them out. If you place the opening of the chisel in the front, facing you, the shavings get kicked out the front.

The one thing that I don't like too much about the tool is the fence and table assembly. It is difficult to adjust and the table is too small. Adjustments are easy to make but the result feels "loose".

If you need to make mortises in thick stock, you can turn the tool around on it's shaft and use your own table. This is not a simple task. You just about have to disassemble the machine. I haven't had to do this yet but when I do, I'll be building some jigs for the machine.

You'll also want to get a nice light to shine down on the area where you are working. The wood shavings get all over the place and it is hard to see where you are cutting.

The chisels that came with the mortiser are okay. The extra set of premium chisels that came as part of the promotion are significantly better, especially in the hardwoods.

I can imagine that both the Jet and the Delta are very similar in operation. They are certainly similar in price and I don't think that you will go wrong with either one.

About a week after I started using the mortiser, my pneumatic lifter failed. I called Delta and they had me a part shipped to me within just a few days. No questions asked. I was very impressed with the support I received from Delta. Since receiving the new part, I've used the tool a lot with no problems.

The mortiser does a good job... not a great job. But considering it is a machine that cuts square holes and it is a lot faster than cutting them by hand or by other means, I believe that it is a good value.

Tool Sets Review Avoid this if you plan to do real work
I bought this kit in Dec'05/Jan'06 thinking it could be a kind of Christmas present to myself. I had plans to use it whenever I worked on my car and do my little rounds around the house in general. The kit seemed fine at first....I think I serviced the car once with it and used the pliers to squeeze/hold a few things. But the incident that took place this weekend has caused me to lose all hope in this kit.

I visited my Mom and she asked me to service her car so I broke out my still brand-new, kit and started. The first this that went was the adjustable wrench. I locked it on to a nut and started to try to loosen it but as I applied pressure the teeth that are supposed to hold the mouth of the wrench in place broke out and the whole thing just opened up so now I have no adjustable wrench. I thought in my mind that it was just cheap material and I would just buy a better one and replace that.

But next went the hammer. I tried to remove a nail with it and the claws bent, soon after the shaft went with it. It was almost as if the hammer was made from soldering iron. PPL might now be thinking that I must have used some thing to apply extra force but really, it was a normal wood nail in a wood shed and I was just using my bare hands (not a concrete nail....no body weight). Please ppl avoid this kit. The only reason I have not returned it as yet is because I am in another country and the shipping costs and the hassle are not worth it.

Tool Sets Review Utilitarian
160 piece is a hype. 160 pieces include 2 dozen nails and sundry. The pieces feel flimsy (Sure enough...made in china) but are just about functional. The hammer works great, though. Good for spot repairs, but you don't want to take your bike apart with this.

Tool Sets Review Woodworker
I purchased a JPM 13 and when I tried to get parts for it they told us that we could buy the planer but they did not carry parts for it. I hope you post this because I am disappointed that you cant buy parts for it even though you still sell it. James

Tool Sets Review ACE
I haven't used mine to cut molding yet, but the machine is under powered for rough cut lumber. If you just have a board or two to thickness plane it is functional, but for big jobs forget it.

Tool Sets Review Good tool, excellent results
My JPM-13 is about a year old, and is being used to restore an old house. I use 5/4 and 8/4 fir and 5/4 maple exclusively. I make the door/window trim (1 1/8 thick x 5 in wide) and have custom knives made. This is not a professional machine, but gives GREAT results on the maple molding, with no sanding needed! I would recommend it to anyone that would use it as a hobby machine.

Tool Sets Review Worst tool I ever owned
I am a retired bricklayer. I do many odd jobs now to keep me busy. I bought this toolbecause I thought it would be a help in my line of work. It performed miserably. I used it to mix some grout for a tile floor. On the second pail of grout, the drill burned out. Don't buy this item. You will be totally disappointed. Go with the bosch SDS hammer. It is a much better item.

Tool Sets Review DeWalt DW567KK not living up to expectations
I purchased this tool last March using it ocassionally. On one ocassion I chipped mortar off some cinder block so I could frame a door opening. Then I used it to drill 5/16" x 2" deep holes in brick to install shutters. The other day I used it to hammer-drill 15, 1/2" holes in concrete to assist with cutting out a slot in 8" concrete to allow underground power to go up a wall to the main panel on a new house. I used it for about 45 minutes, with a few breaks for me to rest. Then I pulled out the chisel for this tool and used the hammer selection along with a sledge hammer to bust out the concrete. It did great until I started smelling something burning. The black oil started showing up in the chuck on the drill bits. Now it is off to DeWalt for repair. Should last longer than this. Dissappointing.

Tool Sets Review Great for home handymen
I have a hammer drill that I have used for several years with disappointing results. After researching several rotary hammers, I selected the DeWalt based on rated power, bit capacity, D style handle, overall length and cost (I must admit I also like the bright yellow color). I used the chisel mode to remove tile from two bathroom shower/tubs and stubborn thinset from floor tile. The tool worked great. I can now also sink holes into aged concrete with ease. I like it; it is a good tool for jobs involving aged concrete.

Tool Sets Review These tools are not worth the money.
(...) There was the option of getting these tools, or getting the bed extension. After reading these reviews, I chose to believe the optimistic review. Wrong choice. I wish I had chosen the bed extension.

The tools are not HSS steel. They do not blue as fast as carbon steel, but they are not quality HSS steel either. I purchased a Sorby bowl gouge & scraper, and the quality of the steel in the Sorbies is far beyond that of these Delta tools. What do I mean by quality? The HSS in the Sorbies will not blue, it holds an edge much better, and the edge is sharper. This adds up to a much more enjoyable turning experience. I have not purchased Crown tools, but my guess is that they would probably also be far superior to the Delta tools as well.

Bottom Line: Don't waste your money on these tools, buy something of quality instead.

Tool Sets Review Decent starter set
I got these free with the purchase of a Delta lathe. While they are certainly not professional quality they are a deal at the price of...FREE! Reading the previous review regarding the "bluing" of the tools; he must have gotten a bad set or is pushing the tool too hard. Mine are nice and sharp, I have yet to have one "blue" at the tip. I especially liked the nice case they come in, that was an unexpected bonus.

Tool Sets Review Excellent basic turning set
I bought this set to replace the tools when I sold my Shopsmith. I have lathe chisels made by Sorby, Henry Taylor, Woodcraft, and Delta. I use the Delta for the majority of my turnings, mainly pens. These are High Speed Steel tools with excellent handles. I sharpen them on a Delta vertical water cooled sharpener. They hold their edge as well as any of the others. They are definately NOT Carbon Steel as the previous reviewer claims. I have been very pleased with these tools and would recommend them to anyone doing spindle turning.

Tool Sets Review WOW-A serrated edge
I am very unhappy about these chisels. I opened the box and pulled out the 1/2 inch. The blade has visible pits and dings. The edge feels like a saw blade. I pulled out the 1/4. A burr on the edge, but not bad. Same with the 1 inch. Then I looked at the 3/4. You have to wonder how this set got out of the factory. I have several Frued blades and bits, including a new Super Dado, and really like them, but this is ridiculous. I expected to have to sharpen the chisels when they arrived, but not to have to grind out large dings in the blade. I swear someone dropped the edge on a concrete step.

Tool Sets Review Ugly, yes. But still beats the heck out of plastic.
For the price, you can't expect perfection. The edges were average for new tools, about 3 or 4 minutes each with the sandpaper and surface plate, they would shave. The handles took a little more time, but after making a jig to hold them in my lathe, about five minutes each with sandpaper removed enough of the varnish to hand rub a tung oil finish that will be comfortable to hold for years. All in all a good buy to put in the traveling toolbox.

Tool Sets Review Alan Baronsky
I have to agree with the previous reviewer - I doubt the handles are boxwood, they seems too soft and the finish is quite poor. They are very easy to sharpen, I am suprised by the first reviewer about the state of the chisels when he received them - if they were that bad why didn't he send them back. In any case I have never bought a chisel that I did not have to hone.

Tool Sets Review Poorly made, poor materials
I purchased these bits Aug 2004. Chinese made I believe. Put a bit in my delta drill press and noticed that the business end had a significant wobble. Took the bit out and laid it flat on my granite surface plate to check its straightness. Significant deflection of straightness showed up... checked several other of the drill bits... all were deflected, none really straight. And... upon stress the bit simply bent in my hand. Decent bits are relatively ridged, stiff. So I advise not to buy these drills... poor materials, poorly made. You will be disappointed.

    Tool Sets Review Cheap
I am impressed with some of the products being produced by Taiwan. These are in the junk category. They flex like crazy. More importantly, I used one to drill some holes in oak, which is wood, not metal, and they dulled after only a few drillings.
I bought these on a whim. I need some long drill bits for a job I was doing, noticed these were the only ones available here at Amazon at the moment, and they were cheap. So I got what I paid for. If you need long drill bits only once in a while, and have a drill bit sharpener handy, they are not too bad. For that reason I give it 3 stars.

Tool Sets Review Good Discount Bits
I bought this bit set a few years ago for those rare occasions when I need a bit that's a little longer than normal (pocket holes, etc.). I have used them a few dozen times, only in wood (hard and soft), and mostly in a hand held electric drill - I have been pleased with the results.

These are not the highest quality drill bits you can buy, but they are good enough for average work. Considering you get 13 bits for about the price of one or (maybe) two high quality ones, I think these are a pretty good deal.

Regarding flexing, I don't think it's possible to make a thin, long bit that won't flex a little, and many of the bits in this set are thin. Whenever possible I try to drill a pilot hole using a standard size bit, and then use the 6" bit for the remaining depth. This seems to minimize the flexing problem.
