Mark JWhat a disappointment! The trigger throttle lock was too sensitive and difficult to manipulate. Would not "set" all the time when trying too initially start the saw. Then once the saw was started when you squeezed the the throttle trigger the engine would "die". Which led me to conclude that the throttle was not "set" properly. I was able to cold start it eventually. But then after a period of use, when I would stop. Refuel and re-oil it, and then try to start up again, the saw was extremely difficult to get started again. With less than an afternoon of usage I finally gave up! Perhaps this particular saw just happened to be a lemon. I use chainsaws quite extensively so I do know how to use them properly.
To Amazon's credit they did refund my money. I am satisfied with Amazon's service at this time.
After receiving my refund I went out and bought a new Husqvarna 455 rancher. Wow! What a product! No comparison whatsoever to my Makita experience. Like night and day.
I know why they tend to be a little more expensive. A great
machine. If you want a good chainsaw thats economical I would
go with a Sears Craftsman. (Believe it or not I have two , and they both work great). If you cut a lot of wood and want
something DEPENDABLE,powerful and durable, I would recommend spending the money and getting a Husky. I have a small Homelite and that is a great saw for the price too!
This is the first time I have ever written a review. I'm
writing this because I felt so strongly about about my negative experience. If you have never owned/operated a chainsaw before I would recommend skipping over a Makita and trying another brand first. I've just noticed recently that not many
of the farmers out here use a Makita chainsaw. Most of them
have Husky's. I think I may know why...............
terriffic chainsawI could not have asked for a better saw.I heat with firewood only.I use my Makita every year to cut my firewood.I've never had a problem with my Makita.Just changed the spark plug in it this year for the very first time.Great saw.

You gotta be kiddin me!!!!!!!I have owned it for three months now and I have yet to find
its limmit. Tire lugg nuts are a joke evan on a 18 wheeler!
I have driven 3/4 inch by 10 inch long lag bolts with no pilot
holes, straight thru 4x6 beams into stucco and thru the wall studs no problem!!! Yes I said with no pilot holes.
And just for fun I drove a one inch by 12 inch long lag bolt into
the end of a pressure treated 4x6, with ease.
I removed a rusted 7/8 inch nut that was imposssible to do by hand. The tool is big and heavy no doubt about it but not too
big or too heavy. It does have excellent ballance and is extremley rugged. This much power in a tool does have its down
side, after removeing 4 tires and replacing them the battery is
showing signs of fatigue and after 4 of the 3/4 inch by 10 inch
lag bolts the battery is dead. (those are huge bolts)
If you do this kind of thing often your better off with a corded
impact gun. But I have found the cordless to be very handy.
If the tool stands the test of time its a huge winner!!!!!!

Nice to have all the tools together in one box, but......Given that, having these tools together in one portable place is nice. Plus I guess you shouldn't really expect much more for the price. Don't get me wrong, I still plan on keeping this in the back of my truck. But if I were to do it again, I might spend a little more money, and put an emergency tool-box together myself.
Super tool kit.

Nice saw that doesn't workTried to use it again today (May 2, 04) and it would not run. (May be a switch problem) This saw has been in production for a long time and the manufacturing problems should have been solved by now.
If I was to buy a trim saw again, I would buy a small battery operated saw (the 18 volt Dewalt is nice). I used my sons dewalt and was impressed that the distance from the blade to the edge of the base plate was a standard 1 inch on one side and 4 inches on the other so it was easy to clamp a staight edge to the line of cut. It had plenty of power and could cut thru thicker stock than the Porter-Cable saw.
For what it is - it rulesThis will NOT replace a decent 7.25" circular saw for cross cutting 2x4 etc.
What this WILL do is cut trim and plywood with ease and no tearouts. Its super light so running it all day wont beat up yer arm. Cuts far better than a jig saw for straight lines.

- 5 amp 30,000 rpm
- 2.4 pounds

- The drywallers choice

Try using the right bit !!!!As far as noise... only an {fool} would use any power tool with out hearing protection. Why do you think they sell earplugs? I checked the noise level with a sound lever meter and my shop vac makes more noise.
I consider it one of the most valuable tools on my truck after my cordless drill.
One of the best
Great for removing old tileAfter struggling with a Grout Grabber for a few hours and getting a moderate amount of work done, a buddy recommended a Rotozip, and loaned me his. A quick trip to the hardware store for a diamond blade and I was in business. The Rotozip did the trick. It was fast, went through the grout like my circular saw goes through wood. It also went through the chicken wire that was holding the mortar in place, throwing off some lovely (but harmless) sparks.
Note that I didn't use the carbide grout bit, which I tried and found to be useless. I used a circular diamond blade intended for tile, cement and so forth. Note as well that this blade isn't recommended for the speed of the cheaper Rotozip, but that's what I had and it worked.
Anyway, the combination of the Rotozip RTM01 with RotoZip ZM101 and the Dry Diamond blade worked like a dream. There is another Rotozip with adjustable speed that should work as well and perhaps be safer.
