Heaters Review Flowerhouse Spring House Portable Greenhouse
Excellent product. Though I have joint and back problems and some other physical problems, I was able to put this portable structure up myself with minimal difficulty. It does an outstanding job of protecting my plants from the frigid temperatures, strong winds, and heavy precipitation we've been having here in Seattle's North End the last couple of months. It won't be hard to take down and store come Spring -- important, as plants need plenty of Sunshine and warmth when that is available. I recommend it highly.

Heaters Review Great for seed starting - very practical.
This is a great little item. Like any tent-type structure you have to figure it out a little the first time (aha - poles go on the _inside_! - I get it). It's nice and sturdy and has room for several of those white plastic shelving systems you can get anywhere. I got a little ceramic heater at Lowes for $20 and added two black plastic tubs full of water for additional passive solar heating. Things are nice and tropical inside and my seeds are sprouting like mad. I hope to have a real full-size greenhouse someday but this is a fun and inexpensive starter.

Heaters Review My favorite purchase this year!
This little greenhouse it terrific! I love it and have told all my friends and relatives about it so they can get one too.

I bought it to "save" tomatoes and herbs in my kitchen garden from freezing too soon. Our nights have dropped to freezing starting the last week of August and I had been going out to cover everything in flannel sheets and comforters every night then going out every morning to uncover them for daytime when it would be hot and sunny. It was just like having kids to put to bed every night and I couldn't leave home without worrying about not getting things covered before the night air got cold. Now I have this greenhouse, I just unzip the doors on the top section to allow for venting if the day is too warm and the air in the greenhouse stays just right even if I don't get home until after dark to zip it up all the way. The plants have really benefited from the added humidity too. I have even dug up some tomaoes, peppers and eggplants from the big garden and potted them in the greenhouse to see what happens. (The big garden has long since succumbed to the cold) They are starting to put out fruit and this greenhouse has given me at least one or two extra months for fresh produce and herbs.

Setup was a snap. I did it all by myself in nothing flat and then my husband gave me a hand with the tie downs because we have winds on a regular basis that can pick up a metal garage building and move it several feet. He was dubious about it staying put but by the time we got all the included tie downs in place he has changed his opinion.

Since the greenhouse is open on the bottom, I just slid it over my existing plants and then adjusted the position of the "skirting" on walls of my raised bed. After securing the tiedowns, I used some bricks on the outside skirting to secure it around the uneven terrain that I had errected it on. Next I installed the metal frame poles inside (they are just like the modern tent poles and go together within seconds if you read the directions and install them in the correct order.

The greenhouse comes in a nifty storage case and collapses down like those windshield sun screens that kinda coil up when not in use. Once my current kitchen garden plants have stopped producing, I plan to store the greenhouse and then set it up in a flat clear spot next spring for an early start on next year's goodies.

My terraced kitchen garden filled approximately one half of the greenhouse so I moved some garden shelves into one of the empty quarters and put a large wooden planter of herbs and strawberries in the other quarter. The shelves are holding 2 to 5 gallon pots with the vegetables I saved from the big garden before it froze. I still have more room if I want to fill it completely, but I left an aisle down the middle from one door to the next for now.

A little water goes a long way in this structure so I only water 2 - 3 times a week. I have more strawberries now than I had all summer and the tomatoes are really busting out.

There are small velcro'd openings for water hoses and power cords built in. I plan to set up a thermal controlled heat light this weekend as our first snow is due in a few days.

The doors have mesh screens as well as the polycarb door flaps. There are velcro straps all over for securing both sets of flaps.

We are installing a large sunroom/greenhouse to the front of our house next spring so this was the perfect little item for me to try out greenhouse gardening. I expect it to be a handy and useful auxilliary greenhouse for many years to come. No matter if you have a large garden or just a small bed, this greenhouse it really worth it's real estate in getting more from your plants in any climate. If I could, I'd buy several more and use them for cold frames in the big garden next year!

Heaters Review Pleasantly warm
The Bernzomatic 2271BM Outdoor Patio Heater is definitely a quality item; beginning with the craftsmenship of its manufacture to the simple and reliable operation time after time. The design eliminates any unsightly or unsafe view of the propane tank, having it cleverly hidden in the base of the heater, but easy to get at for replacement. The installation took less than 1 minute and about 5 minutes to heat our gazebo. I recommend this heater for anyone who wants to extend their outdoor living in the late fall or early spring, be it patio, balcony or a gazebo.

Heaters Review LOVE this Heater....
I owned one of those table top patio heaters for several years and it was just OK.... as long as you were at the table right under the thing and had nothing much more going on at the table than cocktails....AND had a lot of storage space to keep the 1lb. propane cylinders on hand. I had looked at this heater a couple of times over the last 2 years and deliberated if it would make sense on my covered patio. (I live in a ground floor apartment with pretty good sized covered patio.)All of the other patio heaters were just too tall and left me concerned about torching the patio above me! So I finally bought this one and figured if it didn't work out I could always pass it on to my sister who has an actual yard. As it turns out, it is awsome! I can turn the heater on and it puts out a nice even "warmth" and doesn't heat up to a point where I worry about burning the place down. Running it on medium brings my patio temperature up about 10-15 degrees AND leaves the screen cool enough to the touch so I don't worry about people bumping into the thing and getting burned. The quality is great and the thing if solidly built. The base is a heavy gauge plastic made by Runnermaid and is easy to slide around and access the controls. I bought the black - which looks better, I think , than the tan. My only negative comment is that there is not (yet) a cover for this. Bernzomatic assures me that there is one coming by the fall & should be available at Lowe's and Home Depot. (Hopefully Amazon will pick it uo as an item to sell!) I highly recommend this heater - it won't disappoint you.

Heaters Review Great Heater
I own this heater and love it! It looks great and quickly heats the whole patio.

I owned one of those big mushroom top designs and that looked ugly on my patio and would always be too hot at my head and too cold for my feet. this model keeps my whole body warm.

Heaters Review Very easy transaction
We keep coming back to order more - everyone in office wants one of these heaters!

Heaters Review space heater
This model does everything as billed. However, my previous experiences with recent BD heaters have not demonstrated long term reliability. The BD heater line has been discontinued which is unfortunate as they do perform well while they work. Reliability is a problem.

Heaters Review Warm and Convenient = Perfect Small-Space Heater
The best thing about this heater is it's small size- it can fit almost anywhere. This does not heat up a room by any means but it is great by the bed or couch, perhaps an office cubicle if you are able to keep it near. It takes a little time to warm up but it is small so this should be expected. The remote is a nice bonus, but the buttons on the heater are nice and big as well; operation is a cinch. It is about as loud as a regular fan this size, not too bad when you get used to it- I hardly notice it now. (Note: It might take a couple uses before it performs at full capacity heat-wise; not a real problem.) The safety features are comforting as well- it turns itself off on timer, extreme heat and/or at the slightest tip.

Heaters Review Suprisingly Effective...
This was the second portable air conditioner that I ordered from Amazon. The first one, from an independent dealer, never arrived even after a whole month of waiting -- and I was very annoyed since I spent half the summer waiting for my product. This product, did also take a very long time to arrive, and it arrived four days after the maximum promised time. However, it was well worth it. My house has very high ceilings, and two bedrooms upstairs that get about 10-12 degrees hotter than downstairs. When the central air is on, downstairs would have to be freezing before upstairs feels livable (the architectural design was badly thought out). So I got this for the two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom (that has no window and the steam from the shower remains indoors unless fanned), and a small hallway. The air conditioner cools the entire upstairs section of the house without any effort. As the previous reviewers say, it makes it chilly in almost no time, and the best part is that I can use it without any water -- cooling off about 5-10 degrees, easily. It's a little larger than I had expected and it's quite heavy as well. It was a little beat up when I received it, and it took two people to carry it up the stairs. The manual is not very detailed and the instructions are not very good, but this isn't something that takes a brain surgeon to figure out. It's pretty much assembled, and it's quick and easy to set up even without a manual. As far as performance, there's no dripping water, and it performs as well as my central air. Definitely worth the buck, and I'm hoping to keep it for a very long long time.

Heaters Review Fabulous
We have an attic room in our house that we always avoided in the summertime because it has always felt like an oven, even though there is central air in the house. The room is approximately 175 square feet. I despise window air conditioners
mainly because of the installation, and also because they have to be removed at the end of the summer. I ordered this with the hopes that this would solve the problem. All I can say is, this thing is incredible!! It was over 90 degrees here last night, and normally that would make that room feel like over 100. This little unit made the room so cold, we had to shut it down early this morning. It was almost frosty....The air conditoner arrived with everything I needed to start, and it took me a total of 20 minutes to set it up and read the instruction manual. It could be set up so it can be moved, or permanent. I set it up so I can move it to other areas of the house in case I want to shut down the central air, or if I just want to cool one room in the house. It is an attractive unit, and fairly short. Since we just put in new carpeting, I had a friend of mine make me a metal pan to place under the unit, just in case of water leakage. I doubt it will be a problem, but I figured better safe then sorry. The pan also allows the unit to be level at all times, as according to the directions, the air conditioner should be perfectly level. It is fairly quiet, not much louder then a window unit.

Edited to add: You can use the air conditioner 2 ways-if you add water to the container in the unit, it makes the air frosty cold. However, the water does have to be replenished every 8 hours or so. You can also use the unit dry, and it will still make the room cool. You don't have to worry about ruining the unit when the water runs out because it is acceptable to use the air conditioner without it. I have found that on the really hot, stuffy nights here in NJ (especially when the sun has been baking on the ceiling all day), that it is nice to add the water and have it really cold. You do have to use a bottle of descaling liquid (to clean out the unit) every few weeks or so 1 of which they included with the unit. Bottom lline is there is some upkeep, but imho, it is very much worth it when you consider how well it works.

Heaters Review Great Deal for Refurbished
I generally shy away from reconditioned products however this deal seemed too good to pass up. I have this portable in my house and it is like an arctic freezer now. I love it.

This thing really works. I have a lot of computer equipment in my room, which needs to stay cool at all times. I have never had one problem since I installed this portable AC. Not to mention I can transfer units between rooms, because it is portable. I reccomend a portable air conditioner to anyone looking to stay cool.

Heaters Review Excellent safe heater with no fumes
Step 1: Wanted to work comfortably in a 22 x 22 (9 foot ceiling) garage in the winter. Figuring I'd need lots of heat, I bought a portable 40,000 btu propane heater. It exhausts lots of carbon monoxide, so you have to partially open a door or window to the outside to let [cold] fresh air in -- which seriously lowers heater efficiency. The heater warmed the garage, but the approach wasn't satisfactory -- i.e., the fumes were so bad, I stopped using it. It was also very loud, like the hissing of escaping air from a large air boat; plus, when the propane tank ran out, the heater stopped; each time you needed heat, you had to drag it out, connect it to the tank, leave plenty of floor space around this self-contained-blowtorch; put it all away when you were done; and of course find a place to store it. Also, there was no thermostat. All in all, a royal pain in the keister.

Step 2: Bought one of these electric heaters. It has only half the btus of the propane unit, but there is no need to open a window or door for ventilation. It also has a thermostat, so you can set it (to a number, not a temperature), and come back 30 minutes or so later and be in relative comfort. On days in the low 30s, it will keep the garage in the 60s, which is fine for working in comfort. (My attached garage ceiling and 2 walls are insulated.) My heater is mounted high up on a wall, but it can also be mounted to hang from the ceiling, as long as the clearances laid out in the instructions, are followed. In any case, once mounted, it is out of the way, and always ready. There's nothing to haul out or set up when you need heat -- just turn it on. When done, just turn it off. You wouldn't want to use this every day, due to electricity costs, but for occasional use, it is perfect.

My advice is to skip step 1.

Heaters Review Great heater!
I haven't seen the electric bill yet so I'm giving this heater 5 stars. I had previously bought one of the propane Reddy Heaters (RLP50VA see my review on that) to heat my garage but that heater was completely unsuitable for that task. This one is perfect, it heats up the garage quickly and is quiet and clean. It is a 240v heater and requires a hardwired installation so is a little bit of a pain but I wired everything up and had an electrician friend come check out my work before I turned it on and all was OK. Needed a 30A dual pole circuit breaker and 10/2 wire along with a junction box and flexible connecting cable but it was worth the effort! My garage is a garage under (standard Colonial) 26x22 so the ceiling is insulated but nothing else is. Living in NH, a heated garage for working on the cars is pretty much a necessity and I would recommend this heater highly.

Heaters Review When it's really needed it delivers
Calamity Jane has it right - I can verify. I purchased this unit for backup in my cabin in case the generator failed - and it happened. We were in an uninsulated cabin. 5 big guys without a lot of clothing frankly, in the dead of winter near Bismarck North Dakota. Just back from hunting and all our clothes were soaked. Didn't look good but this little puppy came through in a pinch. No problems lighting, and it heated the 150 sq feet cabin in a flash - went all night and dried our clothes. Great when you need it.

Heaters Review Some Flaws, but it does what it's meant to do. HEAT!
The Pros -- This thing delivers the heat! I live in a 980 sq. ft. mobile home with an open living room and kitchen. Even during the coldest months this unit kept me warm during power failures. The heat even traveled to the farthest bedroom, not heating it to the fullest, but keeping away the chill. It runs silently.

The Cons -It does not run for the 12 hours, as stated on the outer carton. I suppose if you heated a very small bathroom it would regulate itself to the full 12 hours. I have to refill the tank every four hours. Since the unit is rather heavy and bulky it's difficult to carry it outside for refueling. It's even heavier on the return trip because of the full tank of kerosene. The carrying handle doesn't feel secure enough to haul that weight.

Unless you run the tank completely dry, this unit flares up and sends a cloud of black smoke into the room during shutdown. A kerosene-stink will linger for half an hour. It has to be taken apart and cleaned every few days to remove the carbon build-up on the wick. I have not yet been successful at removing all that carbon.

A kerosene heater is not for wimps or for those who won't follow safety instructions. It can be dangerous.

I wouldn't recommend this product for someone looking to run it all winter long to cut down on their heating bill.

I would, however, recommend it for someone wishing to have an optional heating source available during emergencies. If the only choices are to freeze or find another heating source, this will unit will do the job well.

I believe the Cons (as stated) are typical of all portable kerosene heaters, so I will not fault this unit in those areas. With the exception of the misleading "runs for up to 12 hours", this unit does what it's supposed to do. That's why I give it five stars.

Heaters Review hell on earth
This baby screams heat! It heats my 20 X 30 foot garage from 30 degrees to 70 in about 10 minutes during the winter. Excellent for car repairs, painting, or hanging out to avoid cabin fever during the winter. It is very efficient on fuel use and I am very happy with it.

Heaters Review A Warm Place Like Home
This is a great heater! My shop is a 24 x 24 pole style. With the open ceiling, there is that much more area to heat than some shops, however, not with this heater. It really puts out. You can set it from 30 to 80,000 BTU and is variable unlike the similar Master brand, which has just 3 settings. I looked at several brands, Mr. Heater, Master, and Universal. I decided on the Universal because vary the temperature setting, good warranty and was the biggest bang for the buck. There are several types of heaters. There is kerosene. I had one like that, but it smelled bad, particularly after starting and shutting it off. There is the radiant type. Those are fine as long as you stand in front of them, but the minute you move away, you are cold again. That's not practical in a shop setting. There is the fan forced type. These put out a lot of heat, but sound like a jet engine. I don't know about you, but the shop tools make enough noise without adding more. Then there is the convection type. These heat the surrounding air. They are much quieter that the fan forced type. After speaking to various manufacturers of these products one mentioned that the convection would be best for a shop. He also suggested that I install a ceiling fan to help circulate the air. Wow was he right! It can take my shop from 40 to 68 degrees in 10 minutes with the ceiling fan on and the heater set on high. I went to go get some propane for the heater after it arrived and found out the local rental establishment carried the same one. I asked the owner how he liked them and his reply was "these are great heaters... they get a lot of use and abuse, and nothing goes wrong with them." I was pleased to hear that! I have a 7 gallon propane tank and fill it about once a month. However, the amount of gas one uses will depend on how often you use the heater. During the winter months a cold shop often gets little use. With this heater however, you have no excuse!
