good heat output but the temperature gauge is way off. i bought the unit bc of the digital thermostat. does not work well at all. i had tried a LASKO ceramic heater and the two units just quit on me in one month each so i went to honeywell. well , i will be still searching !!!

This is a compact and relatively quiet heater. Does a good job as long as your expect it to do its basic job.

If you try using its other features on a regular basis ( oscillation or temperature control ), you may be dissapointed.

I bought 2 of these from Amazon on a BF sale and have used them regularly for the last month and a half.

Both of them have stopped oscillating and make a creaking noise while on the oscillation mode. The temperature guage is also incorrect on both of them and cannot be trusted.

I haven't tried any of the extra features. I just put it on high or low and it works good.

The automatic shut off when tiltled doesn't work on one of them.

I am happy with the product.

Sure it's pretty, but it's also pretty useless. Like Hobbs (another reviewer) noted, the knob to hold the fan at a particular angle DOESN'T hold. So it blows air where IT wants, not where I want. Obviously, this is a problematic product. I should have known better, given how many "factory reconditioned" ones I have seen available. Gee, wonder why the factory has so many available to recondition. Dumb me for buying it. Do yourself a favor and find a real vintage fan at a thrift store.

This fan is extremely solid looking, and powerful, as well as attractive, but behaves strangely. The base and the fan seem to be assembled with some sort of floating mechanism that makes the fan seem like it just wobbles around sometimes. You can tell the second you take it out of the box. In spite of the wobbly assembly, the thing really pushes air around really well, and my air conditioning no longer seems 'stale'. I'm sure there are other fans that are more powerful, solid, inexpensive and definitely lightweight, but none are as cool looking as this one.

As it turns out, the fan is not supposed to be wobbly, but instead should be very sturdy. The rep told me to pack it up and send it back to the factory. That's pretty inconvenient, because this thing is going to cost me about 20 bucks to ship, let along the packaging that is going to have to be carefully engineered. Dont buy this. The situation now stinks, and by the time I get the new one, I will have paid way more than it is worth. As a matter of fact, I am sending it back to Amazon, and they can pay for the shipping label. Thanks, Amazon, for a great message board for me to vent on.

Pros: moves a lot of air, cool retro look is appealing, nice low frequency sound for those that like the white noise of a fan while they sleep, modestly priced for a product with a lot of steel content.

Cons: cheap plastic switch that feels destined to break before long, a little difficult to clean but this isn't much different from every other fan I've owned. One of the two I own has something loose in the motor housing that results in a metal to metal bell tone when it's oscillating. Probably something I can fix but at only about three months old, something I shouldn't have to deal with.

Bottom line: a good fan with a great look but a little pricey relative to comparable plastic fans (so is everything with high steel content lately). Long term reliability is a question mark. If all you want is a fan to move some air, this isn't the fan for you.

First space heater I have purchased so I don't have much to compare it too. It worked well for 4-5 nites and then I woke up FREEZING at 5:00 in the morning. The heater was dead and I could not get it started again. Returning it to Amazon with their awesome return policy because I need a heater NOW. I will say I must have just gotten a defective one because when it worked it really did a nice job though it did seem a bit noisy. But, I don't have anything to compare it too so maybe all space heaters sound like this.

In 1999, after moving into our new home, we bought a HEATLOGIC HFH-435BR Holmes heater and it worked great for about 1 1/2 years. We used it approx. 50 times per year. After 1 1/2 years it would only work if you unplugged it and let it sit for an hour or two. Since we were out of warranty we operated like this until now. Maybe it is not the heaters fault but something we did to it. Am going to buy a new one and hope they have fixed any problems if it was the heater. We certainly got "our money's worth" of pleasure out of it, hence my 3 star rating vs. a lower rating.Hope this helps someone. Jack

We've had this heater for 2 winters and use it to heat our bedroom which is on the opposite side of the house from the furnace. This room is usually colder in the winter and this solved our problem. Great for keeping the temperature at just the right degree. We bought another heater for downstairs which isn't programmable and really regret it. Now were looking to purchase another for the kids room. We've had absolutely no problems at all. I just hope we can find another to purchase.

If heat is what you're looking for then this might be your product, but if you don't want to kill yourself then I'd go with something else. This is seriously the loudest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. At first you'll think the thing is just warming up, and after about 10 more minutes of it you'll think its broken. Finally, you'll realize that its just loud. It sounds like you've got front row seats at a NASCAR race or you're actually on the space ship thats launching into space, but no, its just this new heater that you bought. Don't buy this thing unless its for your deaf brother, but it might even be too loud for him.

I have this radiant heater and 2 similar models. They are all noisy for about 15 seconds when they turn on. I suggest running it on low in small rooms so it does not cycle on and off. I buy this type of heater for 2 reasons. 1. I find that forced air heaters dry out the air, which irritates by allergies. 2. The biggest reason is that my cats LOVE laying in front of these heaters for hours. The heater gives off a glow which feels like you are sitting in the sun. I have been using them for years without any safety issues, just use common sense.

This unit does a good job heating up my small office (measuring about 10'x12') rather quickly, and its thermal control keeps the room in a comfortable temperature by turning the unit on and off automatically. The unit radiates heat over a pretty large area (with a small fan helping push the hot air out front). This means that it probably will do a good job keeping you warm in a larger space as well, as long as it's placed closeby.

My only complaint is the noise. The unit makes a rather loud rattling noise when its heating elements turn on, which lasts about 10-15 seconds. The fan is reasonably quiet in the low setting, but can be distracting when on high. I certainly wouldn't put one of these in the bedroom.

When I first got this heater, I thought it was pretty good. A 4 stars because it was a little bit noisier than I expected but that's just how most portable heaters are. 2 months later I noticed that there is this annoying whirring/clicking noise that sounds like something came loose within the machine itself. It's definitely very annoying and something probably is loose inside the machine. I am going to bring the heater back to costco and try to exchange it for a new one. WIsh me luck cuz i don't have the receipt.

I bought this heater at Costco for $43 last week. It is quiet, well put together, and really warms the room. My only complaint is that the digital thermostat frequently displays an inaccurate temperature -- like 74 when it's actually 69 degrees. I know because I put a second thermostat next to the unit just to see. While this is annoying (especially when you have to get out of bed into a cold room rather than a nice and warm room), I'm pretty happy overall, and have just learned to set the target temperature higher (like 76 degrees) to compensate.

I just bought this heater from costcco for $45 compared to $80 here..... i haven't taken it out of the box yet but i already love it !!

I've had two of these heaters and they both do the same thing -- the thermostat seems to be based simply on "time", not room temperature. For instance, if you turn it to a hotter setting, you're not adjusting a thermostat to a higher temperature that the heater will then maintain; instead, it just runs more often.
Consequently, your room temperature is never consistent, even though you leave the unit at the same setting. If your central heating is running more often, the room gets too hot because the unit doesn't seem to sense temperature, just "run more" or "run less".
Look for something else.

I love this heater.We have used it for maybe three years. It heats up my big garage for my animals in the coldest winter.It is safe because of the cutoff feature if it is tipped. I was searching to find two more to purchase but can't seem to find them now. I guess they dont make this model anymore.

We got this heater today and we are thrilled with its performance. It was pretty cold this evening and we were having a birthday party. We wanted to do presents in our 14'x14' three season room, but it was very chilly. Within minutes of plugging in our new heater, the entire room was comfortable. It has three settings for small, medium and large size rooms. It rotates so the heat isn't focused on one area, and the outside base stays cool. The safety features are wonderful since we have two dogs and two children. It can't burn them, or start a fire due to the automatic shut off features. I think this is an excellent value for the price. It is very light weight and will sit easily on our plant stand or stereo cabinet. I highly recommend this to anyone needing a little extra heat.

heater doesnt heat room up that good at all and the unit itself get too hot too fast 1/2 hour and turns off

When I first picked up this heater I had serious doubts due to its size. I already had a quartz heater and it was ok it brought the room to a cool in stead of freezing but with this one working along side it now the room is toasty the room is like 15' by 12' basement apart. So u can imagine how it was with out it aside from it being in the middle of the coldest winter in like 100 years.

I have been working on changing the wick, for 2 days and everything stinks like kerosene. There are no phone nunbers for tech help. I get the wick put on the holder and insert the pins into the side and then I cant get the wick to turn up. It will work just like they say, till its time to change the wick. my opinion is to buy a wood stove

I built a small office in the garage, it was quite diffiuclt to get the room warm enough to do any computer work in the winter, so I picked this heater up. It not only keeps the room at a toasty 77-85 degrees F, but a full tank of fuel lasts 8-12 hours depending on how high you have it cranked up. It's fairly odorless, except when lighting or extinguishing, and it works like a charm. Its been in almost constant use the last 2 winters and I don't know how I ever lived without it. 10 gal. of kerosene a week keeps me in the warm zone for those cold N.J. winters. I have used it with my office door open, and managed to keep an uninsulated garage at about 65 degrees F for working on my car in the middle of winter. It takes awhile to warm a room, maybe 30-60 mins, a cold garage maybe 1-2 hours. Just remember to crack a window open for fresh air while in operation!

I'm very happy with my new Kero-World heater. It starts heating almost instantly taking only about 20-30 minutes to warm the room I put it in. (an 800 sq. ft. space) The only time you can smell a bit of Kerosene is when you first light it and when you turn it off. During operation, it is almost completely odorless!! I would recommend this heater to anyone, for use almost anywhere, even in the house!

This product is not effective at all. It doesn't even generate enough heat for a tiny bathroom. Rethink this one.

Bought two of these for my childrens rooms to save on gas usage. They work great! Worth every Penny.

We have one of these in our kitchen where the temp goes down to the 50's at night and with this heater our kitchen stays nice n warm and did not raise our electric bill at all. It maintains a constant even temperature and is far safer than a quartz or fan heater. It is quiet and is made well as opposed to the lakewood brand we have where the fins are not sealed neatly or evenly.

This heater is a winner and I am in search of more like it for the rest of my home. I highly recommend it. I love mine.

If you have any problems with this item at all, Amazon will not return, service or do anything for you. Amazon tells you to call the manufacturer. And the manufacturer (Desa) tells you to call Amazon. You are better off going to a local dealer instead.

Do not learn this hard way (like I did.)

STAY AWAY!!!

I was looking for a heater for my garage so I can comfortably work in the winter. Even though I have natural gas to the house I decided to go with the propane model. I have it hooked up to an external propane take and it works great. It heats up my garage in only a few minutes. But I also like the thought of having it for emergency heat should we lose power preventing the furnace from working.

This is a great product. It took me less then 1 hour to install this product in my greenhouse, fired it up and instant heat. Everything works just as advertised, as a matter of fact, it work better then I expected. Just note that this product can not be returned to Amazon.com, if you need to have work done, you must find a dealer. They are upfront with this prior to purchase.
