Heaters Review good, not great
I bought a seemingly identical heater, also via Amazon, from a different Amazon retailer. Amazon seems to have the identical heater on about 7 webpages -- find them by doing an Amazon Search for " "Portable Fan Forced Open Coil Heater" ". Among the 7, the only basic difference seems to be that retailer is different, listed subtly near the top of the webpage, with the words, "Availability: Usually ships in _ business days from [name of merchant]". You can find my, detailed review with the retailer name, "Air & Water".

Heaters Review inaccurate features?
I checked on the Northern Tool website, and the identical heater was listed differently: only 2 settings, and no thermostat control. I even called Northern Tool to double check, and the receptionist insisted there were only 2 settings. So I am not sure what is correct, and I dare not buy this product.

Heaters Review Not what I thought...
I poked around on the manufacturers web site before buying this heater to heat my garage but the site was a little misleading in that they don't tell you that this shouldn't be used for an application like I wanted. It touted the heater as being odorless which it definitely wasn't! I don't have natural gas in my neighborhood so that was out, I didn't want one of the 100lb tanks that the other "vent free" models need so I'm going to try to get rid of this one as I've just replaced it with one of the 240v electric heaters that hang from the ceiling.

I'll give it three stars as I'm sure it will work well in an open construction environment which might rate a 5 but for my application it definitely gets a 1.

Heaters Review Lots of Noise along with Heat
I purchased this heater for my husband for Christmas to use in the garage. How loud is the heater supposed to be? He wears earplugs when he runs the heater, and when I'm inside the house (and we have a very nice, well insulated, northern house), I can hear the heater from the garage. How do we know if it's defective or not? Any others who have purchased this product have a similar experience? We have not returned the heater because it does a FANTASTIC job of heating the three car garage QUICKLY (and it's about 7 deg F outside today)!

Heaters Review Great While it Works!
I originally bought two of these Windchaser space heaters, because our central heating system was out. Our Heating is still out, and now unfortunatley, the heaters have stopped working! Time to go return them!

When turning these space-heaters on, immediatley hot air starts to get blown out. Within 20 minutes, one of these can warm a 14' x 14' room! It is amazing how quickly these work. We have had these for a little more than a month and a half, and use them for 5-8 hours a day, 3-4 times a week(Usually in the night).

Recently, one of these made a 'click' sound, and then it just turned off. The instruction manual says that this will take place if the unit overheats. You are just supposed to then wait for it to cool off, and then plug it in again. after a week the thing still won't turn on. I am sure that the cool off time is only a couple of hours max!

So these are good, if you want to spend about $20 on a temporary heating solution. If you are interested in a more permanent one, then I would suggest getting a similar type (Because it works so well!) but a higher quality. I've had the 'radiator'-style heaters before, and they do not work nearly as well.

I also have to say that the design of these things is pretty modern, and although it didn't suit my taste much, everyone who saw these said that they were so 'futuristic' looking!

One more note: The darn kids were playing basketball in the house, and knocked one of these units over!(Toppling it to the ground at a distance of 4 Feet!) The one that was knocked over is the one that didn't short out! These things are strong. Once the one that still works was even kicked pretty hard off of its stand.

Summary: Great While it works, Will stop working after about 2 months of moderate use, great exterior design, good temporary solution, and inexpensive! (Would have given it 5 Stars if it would have turned back on/not shorted out)

Heaters Review I love my Vornado!
I live in an old drafty icebox of a house built in the 1930's. Even when I run my gas heater, it doesn't do much good. I needed a space heater, and bad! I was wary of buying a space heater as I figured it couldn't help, but I'm glad I got this one! I read the instructions, followed their recommendations
for a large room and in about 15 minutes it took the chill off and made it so much more comfortable! It even reached into the surrounding hallway and dining room. I'm quite pleased. As a pet owner, I also appreciate the smaller vents that keep curious kitty cat's out of the heater. My cats all congregate by it and there's no way for them to get inside of it.

Heaters Review Vornado Vortex Heat
I just had to post after reading the reviews.

I have had a Vornado Vortex Heater since 1994, I paid twice what this one costs and it has been excellent. Whisper quiet just like the Vornado fans. It has moved with us, been used up and downstairs, been dropped and mistreated. It was recalled and rebuilt in December of 2004 and I would definately buy another!

Heaters Review GREAT PRODUCT!
Not sure if there was a faulty batch that other people here received, but this will be the 3rd season using this product.. and it is the perfect answer to heating up a small room quickly. A Large room does indeed take more time, especially if there are open doors or wide openings in the room. It is not meant to be on 24 hours a day so maybe thats why other people are having trouble. The internal thermostat ensures you won't be wasting any more energy than you need to. About to buy my 2nd one right now..

Heaters Review Save your money
The oscillator works - sometimes. The top section blows out cold air, while the bottom blows out hot air. I have to run it on the highest speed just to feel the heat, and the fan started making a very loud noise the other night. I'm looking for a new heater already because I am afraid this one will catch the house on fire!

Heaters Review short but nice heater
This heater gets the job done. Very flexible and easy to handle.

Heaters Review Small Wonder!!
This is a very nice product and I am very pleased. For its size, it heat up as fairly decent sized square footage very quickly. The oscillating feature is an added bonus. It is a little bid loud (not a loud as a fan) but it's not annoying. With its small size, it hides easily in a corner while warming the room. I am very pleased with the product.

Heaters Review defective engineering
This item was designed improperly. The high setting allows the heater to operate for no more than 10 minutes before the built-in "overheat" safty device shuts down the heater; after which, you would then have to manually reset it by unplugging and replugging it into the wall outlet. I am not sure exactly where the engineers placed the safety cut-off device but maybe they have it installed too close to the quartz tube behind the reflective metal sheet. How can the heater warm up the room if it keeps cutting off the power everytime the heater gets hot.

Heaters Review GREAT HEATER FOR RIGHT USE
This heater is fantastic for keeping my office desk area warm. At only 800 watts max (the 400 setting is usually fine) it gets rid of the chill but does not get anger the building management because.
a. It does not blow breakers.
b. It does not get dangerously hot. Even at 800 watts the grill is touchable - but not comfortable.

I have seen no sign of the "overtemp" problem others have mentioned. Yes, I have operated it at the 800 watt setting for several hours, no problems. However, I could see that if you did not give the recommended clearances around the heater (see instructions) that you could run into a problem.

A note on radiant vs convection heaters: This heater technically speaking is a radient heater. If the marketers want to call it reflective, fine. It heats primarily by radiating heat (infra-red radiation) from the heater to surfaces in the line of sight. If the heater is on the floor (as is required) and you are in a bed - you are no longer in the line of sight and you better have a blanket. If the air is real cold this means that the side toward the heater will be warm the other side cold. It also means that, like a lightbulb, the further away you are, the less concentrated the heat (or light). Convection heaters operate primarily by heating air. This unit will heat some air but if that is what you want, buy something else.

Heaters Review Best Space Heater I've Ever Had
The other reviews worried me before I bought this heater, but I'm very happy with it especially for the price I paid ($19). It's very quiet unlike fan heaters. It doesn't get too hot even if I put it close to me (most other heaters do and I have to turn them on and off constantly) and yet the room gets quite warm. The automatic shut-off doesn't kick in even though I leave it high for hours. This is the best space heater I've ever had!
