    Heaters Review caveat emptor...
Unit arrived banged up and non-funtional. After having hauled this 85 pound junker from the Fedex facility and have it not working was really upsetting. I called Compactappliance to have the unit returned for a refund and to my sheer amazement they directed me to Edgestar to sort it out??!! Edgestar was also a joke. 5 emails and 8 voicemails and threats of legal action before I was contacted. I should have done my homework before buying. check out other edgestar/compactappliance reviews for similar horror stories.

Heaters Review Excellent product, but with a little aesthetic work first.
I was very wary of buying this, as it's very expensive and I've never had experience with a portable AC. I needed another AC to supplement my tiny window unit, but didn't want to block another window, especially my living room windows! It works wonderfully, but I just want to report that you totally need a grounded, single-circuit outlet dedicated only to the AC. I had to have one installed, a single circuit not shared with any other outlets. Before that, I was using an outlet that had a series of other outlets coming from it and I had a lot of brown-out issues. Now, no problems at all. My biggest issue was the ugly window kit. I couldn't stand it, and since it fits into the inside main window and not the outer storm area, most of the vented heat just went up in between the windows instead of going outside. So, I created my own storm window with .125 Plexiglas and actual storm window framing (I would have just cut the hole into the existing storm, but I rent the apartment and they wouldn't have appreciated me doing that!). I cut a 6" hole into the Plexi to fit the vent into. Beautiful! Now it vents completely outside, and I still have a nice window to look out of. It was a lot of work and extra expense, but well worth it for me. I've used it for about a month now. The AC does a great job reducing the humidity and cooling very quickly. I have a 750 square foot apartment - so with my other window unit in the bedroom and this one in the living room, it's perfect. It is loud, though, no matter what setting or mode you have it on. And, it would be great if Edgestar created the kit with a damper or louvers in the 6" vent hose adapter - I worry about birds flying into the hose! Also, Compact Appliance is a good company. I had ordered it directly from them (not via Amazon), and paid no shipping and it was on sale. I got my AC quickly, and had no problems at all.

Heaters Review Great portable air conditioner - Recommended!
I am SO glad I got this Edgestar 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner! As an update as of mid-summer after using the unit for a couple of months I must say it is a winner. I have had no problems whatsoever with it. It has kept me quite comfortable thus far. The installation was simplicity itself: I just taped the round air exit jig to the round air exit vent in my kitchen and within minutes this unit was supplying cool air. Better yet, it was the start of some the hottest weather we've had so far this year - just over 90F - and the spunky little unit has performed admirably. I cools the kitchen and does a good job of cooling an additional two small rooms nearby! (please note: I am happy if a room airconditioner gets the temperature under 80F - I do not expect a room airconditioner to cool several rooms to 70F or less!) These units are just for small to moderate sized single rooms! I must say it is very quiet compared to all room air conditioners I have ever had! It has a japanese made rotary (not piston) air compressor. The microchip controlled control center (and remote) have worked fine. Don't plug it in the same circuit that has your: refrigerator, toaster, dehumidifier, hair drier, microwave, PC, big screen TV, or 500 watt entertainment center! All those devices would steal enough current to deprive this unit of the power it needs to work right. The unit shuts off automatically if the internal moisture recovery tank is full. It needs to be emptied at least daily. That's the price you pay for not having it mounted in a windowsill. By the way, this unit vents the hot air it takes out of the room and vents it through a six inch flexible vent to a jig that fits in a window so the heat goes to the outside. If you don't do this, it will NOT cool your room! This is not a magic device. It simply takes the heat from inside and MUST put it outside through the vent supplied. It would be worth while to read the owner's manual, too. It's not nuclear physics, but it might help you to know how to use this excellent device. If you haven't yet figured out how to set your VCR to record your favorite show on TV yet, maybe you shouldn't stretch your abilities too much and destroy your confidence in yourself. This is the best room air conditioner I have ever had! It will not cool a whole house or apartment. It is a ROOM airconditioner, and at that it does a great job. RECOMMENDED.

Heaters Review Broke after a few months
Lousy unit. Typically crappy Black & Decker product.

First the handle snapped off. We could live without the handle, though it did vibrate and make even more noise afterward, which was a drag in the bedroom.

Then the unit completely stopped working, even after great attempts to revive the patient.

Black & Decker is just a front for poorly made Chinese products. They refused to take a return (they have awful customer service). I've completely had it with this company.

Heaters Review Not for Hard Surface Floors! BEWARE!
This heater vibrates across the floor until it meets up with something, hopefully NOT flammable! I have called Black & Decker about this problem, hoping to avoid someone getting hurt by it; but all they told me was, to write them a letter about my problem. I see that they are STILL selling this dangerous item. There is NO warning about it vibrating across hard surface floors. I have been unable to keep it from vibrating across the floor via anti-skid pads.
Before I knew of the danger, I went to sleep with it on in our bedroom. When my husband went to bed, luckily he turned on the light, because it was up against the bedding and still blowing very hot air.

    Heaters Review Noisy and Hot
With all the noise this unit makes you'd think it had a powerful fan, but it does not, and as a result the casing gets very hot even on low heat setting. I've nearly burned myself. I'm scared of this thing on high heat setting.

Heaters Review EQ2 Equalizer -- Register Booster
Yep, I gotta agree with the other reviewers that this is a waste of money. Great concept, poorly executed. It does turn on and off automatically, but that's it's only good point.

I have an upstairs bedroom that gets about 5-6 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Warmer even than the adjacent bedroom. Put one of these over the vent, checked the temperature all day, and there was no difference. I think most computer fans are probably quieter and blow more air. All this seems to do is churn the air around a bit.

While I'm not a mechanical engineer, I think this product could have been designed better, without adding cost, and actually might have worked.

Save your money. If you have a vent that's not vlowing much air, try removing the grill. The grill restricts the airflow and removing it might be enough to help.

    Heaters Review Too Bad
I was all pumped when I saw this at Home Depot this weekend, as I have a room that is 6-7 degree lower or higher than the rest of the house. I went home and set it up and then set a thermometer in the room to monitor the change. The room stayed its usual 6-7 degrees even with the thing running over a 3 day period. Waste of time and money if you ask me. Great idea, but it does not work as promised.

    Heaters Review Not for Heating
This product might be good for air conditioning but it does not work for heating. I have two rooms on the north end of my house that are always cold. I closed 3 vents in other rooms and installed this booster and it didn't help at all. In fact, it may have made the room colder because it was blocking the air that normally comes out of the vent. The only reason I gave it two stars is because it arrived within 2 days, but now I am returning it.

Heaters Review Don't waste your money on this model or this brand
Holmes products are terrible. This is the second Holmes product I have owned. This heater worked fine for 3 months. We boxed it put it in storage and 6 months later tried to use it and it was DEAD (within warranty).

We tried to get it replaced and the people from Holmes made us wait 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months (4 different phone calls). Each time was a different excuse ('Your model is not in stock', 'We are out of that model', etc.) Finally, they agreed to replace it, but made us pay $10 shipping. $10 ! The original unit was only $50.

Long story, short. The product isn't that great and the replacement policy just isn't there. Try a different brand.

    Heaters Review Not that Great
Don't waste your money. Did not heat the area in my home it was intended for. It looks nice though and oscillates, but I was not pleased with the units ability to heat the room -- and I bought 2 of them for the same space and it still wasn't that warm. (A little Warmer, but not warm)

    Heaters Review Beware of overheating
I purchased this item for the livingroom. It heats the room up well. There are two buttons, one for oscillation and the other for on/off/temperature settings. The sound isn't too distracting, and the high setting isn't loud. My family used it for about a week, and tonight while it was running in the livingroom the power in half the house went out. Since it was the only new item we were using I reached for the plug and it was very hot from the plug to the first two inches of cord from it. Once I unplugged it, the electricity went back on. The problem could be with this particular one I got, but I don't plan on testing that theory out. I'll be returning it soon. Just be careful if trying one out.

    Heaters Review Definately not recommended
Seemed like the ideal heater to effectively help heat a small house, so I purchased two.
First off the fan never shuts off when the unit is on.
Second and most important the unit does not shut off when it reaches your selected temperature it continues to heat. I set both of the units I purchased at 70 degrees and let them run. The rooms warmed up quickly then started getting hot. When I checked the temp was at 84 degrees and rising. The top temp on the unit is 86 degrees so perhaps the units would have stopped heating at that point, I didn't wait to find out. Maybe the fan would have also shut off then too.
Had this been in only one unit I would have considered it an unfortunate occurance, but for both units to have the same defect suggests a basic flaw in their design.
These units are potentially dangerous and I would definately not recommended them to anyone. Too bad as the overall appearance, basic effectiveness and the addition of the remote made them very appealing.

    Heaters Review Semi effective
I bought this unit here on Amazon for 29.99. It looks great and has some nice features like an LED display and adjustable thermostat. The problem is the fan motor is not very powerful which makes the unit semi effective at best. An average deal at 29.99 but a rip off at 69.00. I would recommend for a bathroom but not for a large room. It just doesn't have the power.

      Heaters Review Could be cooler
Although I'm using the unit in a space to large for its capacity, it seems to be underpowered for the claimed 12000 BTUs.
The highs; ease of use and programability.
The lows; cheap plastic air hose fittings break easily, and are not engineered to fit windows without major customising.

      Heaters Review Requires Annual Maintenance
I expect my appliances to be low maintenance. Aquastar 125B was installed 2-1/2 years ago in new construction, provides plenty of hot water for 2 low-flow showers simultaneously. Read manual when I moved into house, failed to perform annual maintenace of unit.
If you buy this product order water valve rebuild kit, you will need it.
In addition to annual maintenance the water control valve must be rebuilt every 2-5 years or a dangerous overheat condition arises. Mine currently requires rebuild. $15 in parts $30 shipping FedEx. The two set screws that connect the water control valve to the gas control valve are deterioted and frozen. The instructions say that if this condition exists, stop and call tech support as the gas control valve may be damaged. Repeated calls to tech support, more than 10, have resulted in no answer. Left messages that have not been returned. Emailed Controlled energy to get necessary parts. So far, eight days and no hot water; wife not very happy; I'm suffering.
