One of the BESTWhen it comes to control these two routers give the feeling of complete control over what you are doing. The startup is smooth and the power is above average.
I would recommend both of these routers highly.
Well done Milwaukee...
great toy
Well thought out designOne feature I like, is that the base is tightened down to the motor, or loosened, with a metal lever that snaps open and closed. This is easier than twisting a knob, and once closed, you have a positive lock. (yes, I have failed to tighten a knob securely enough on another router and had the base come loose while operating it). Removal of the base is done by pressing a button and sliding the motor out of the base. "Coarse" adjustments are made the same way. A knob is provided on the top side for making fine adjustments. Though the adhustment is not a fine as on my plunge router, I find it to work very well. The collets require 2 wrenches to install bits, and the wrenches provided are the forged type rather than stamped metal, a definite plus.
All in all this router is a pleasure to use, and my past experience with Milwaukee service has been very good.

Works greatThese other drills suffered from short battery life and poor grip with the chuck mechanism.
Before buying this time, I went to Consumer Reports, who gave this item high marks all around.
I'm completely satisfified with it.

You pay for what you getImpressed with the comfort and power. My neighbor is really jealous so this is a side benefit. I look forward to many projects and will update from time to time.
Wasn't formerly a big DeWalt fan but now I'm sold.
"THE" do-all kitThe price you pay for the Dewalt is the only downside, it seems to be the most expensive kit. But if you already have 18V dewalt tools...
The only weak part of the kit is the batteries. They will be the part that breaks when you drop it (usually the case, but sometimes the solder joints) I can't say that the same thing won't happen to the other kits, so don't make more out of it than it is... just try not to drop them. (ha ha)
I would like to find out if a smart charger could be bought for the packs. One that can discharge the pack and then pulse/reflex charge them back up with a peak charge cut off (instead of a temp or timed cutoff) I don't think the DW charger does any of that.
A thing of beauty...I used to be a professional door/window/storm door installer for Lowe's & Home Depot and ran through the gamut of tools in my travels. I began with some low volt Black & Decker's and moved to a 14.4 Firestorm. Well the removable chuck on the Firestorm died after about a month, though it was a nice feature, leaving me drill-less.
Step in DeWalt DC4KITA...
I purchased this kit and instantly fell in love. The power, the battery life, everything was extremely impressive. In fact, I loved it so much that I bought a second one for my father. From lag bolts to 4" wood screws to light duty drywall screws to paddle-bit drilling, the drill in this kit handles everything I continue to throw at it. The reciprocating and circular saws speak volumes about the DeWalt quality (thus I learned my lesson pertaining to Black & Decker <==> Consumer; DeWalt <==> Commercial). And the addition of the light is really just an added bonus. As for all-in-one packages, you will find no better choice than the DeWalt DC4KITA!

Best Dremel to dateI've had many Dremels over the years. I've even picked up a few "antique" ones from their early years. Cute for a few quick jobs like rubber wheel to polish carving tool edges, and nice to know they still run, but for hours of routing, get this one. Dial in just the right speed for bit and material and away you go. With much less noise too.
Now, as for dating your Dremel .... well
Exactly what I expected...So far I use it to sharpen the lawn mower blade, make drywall cutouts for electrical outlets, trim the dogs nails, and probably half a dozen other little tasks.
The only drawback is that is has a cord(!) so we've decided to get the lithium cordless version as well.

Well I destroyed this grinder todaySometimes I've overpowered the grinder, so I'll probably replace it with a more powerful model (this is Metabo's weakest model) like the WE 14-125VS which is almost the same weight, spins the same sized wheels, but has a motor that's twice as powerful.
Today I was grinding down joints in an OSB subfloor that had gotten wet and mushroomed a bit. With a 24 grit sanding disk the tool hogged away at the OSB. After about an hour or so I noticed smoke coming out of the housing and figured that some dust had gotten inside and started to cook. A bit later the smoke increased, the rotational speed dropped, and the grinder started making terrible noises. I unplugged it, felt the housing, and was surprised at how hot it had become. I think I toasted my grinder, and I've only been using it for 7 months-very disappointing.
Fortunately it was still under warranty. Unfortunately, Metabo's 3 year warranty program is so convoluted that I'm sure they designed it to keep people from getting 3 years of service for free. I failed to register my tool soon enough, but even if I had, I might not have printed out and saved the certificate that would have granted me 3 years of service. So I've only got a 1-year warranty. Beware if you think the advertised 3-year warranty stated on the box is automatic.
