I've had mine for several years, and the battery just gave out. It was even stored in the garage throughout our frigid New England winters, kept fully charged. This unit has worked well to kept weeds and grasses trimmed on our 1/4 acre parcel. It's nice to just pick it up, hit the switch, and go.

Have owned and used our Ryobi 150R cordless trimmer for over 4 years and other than adding new string it has worked flawlessly. This is a truely outstanding product.

I bought the Ryobi 150r in 1995 and I love it. It has worked great for the past 9 years. I use it weekly. I have never run out of battery power during a job. I have a medium size yard, so I'm not sure how it would do on a large yard. The original battery lasted 5yrs; my second battery lasted 4yrs. Bought the battery at Billiou's (1-877-245-5468) www.billious.com for $26.35 plus $6.50 shipping. Also found it at M and D Mowers (www.m-and-d.com) for $28.49 plus $5.95 shipping. While I like the electric (no contribution to global warming), and found this trimmer easy to use, I tried to trim back spreading ivy, which has a woody stem. This causes too much stress and vibration to the black plastic "shield" -- which is secured by one tiny screw. The screw stripped out of the soft plastic and the shield flew off. I was lucky there was no injury. Trimming grass or soft weeds may not cause this, but I DO NOT recommend this trimmer for anything heavier. (I have not yet investigated repair/replacement: will update review with this information)

Lightweight, good power, auto feed is sometimes stubborn...just sometimes, overall a good product!

I had a gas trimmer/edger before this (I still have it). This is an excellent equipment for the following reasons - Low price, saves gas (Electric), Light weight (No battery), powerful trimmer & edger, autofeed.
Downside - Uses lot of line. This uses one spool for about 3 cuts (depending on the size of lawn). You will need a long power cord (100 ft).
But it is still worth more then its price.

This trimmer replaced a cheap-o Toro. I have been impressed w/ its power & quality. It doesn't waste any time when it gets to the big stuff! Oh, and no trips to the gas station either.

I was a little hesitant about one reviewer's negative remarks about the speed spool. Turns out you have to read the instructions and learn what the thing will do and won't do. Once I got past the learning curve the thing worked fine.

The Ryobi 105R is a powerful electric trimmer, yet light-weight enough to handle with one hand if you have a particularly difficult spot to trim, and it is balanced nicely so there is no back strain as there can be with models that have the motor mounted at the bottom of the trimmer. Like all corded electrics it has the disadvantage of being tied to an outlet; otherwise, it is perfect for trimming around the house. More reliable and easier to start than a gas powered trimmer and just as powerful. It's Consumer Reports highest rated corded trimmer.

the trimmer works fine, but the bearings went out prematurely. replacement was not available. so all they could recomend is to buy a new trimmer head, as in the snap on accessories like the blower,hedge trimmer,cultivator. the cost cost of any of these is ridiculous. so you might as well throw it away and buy a new trimmer. such a waste, motor is fine .

Having used gas trimmers before I was interested in a change. An electric trimmer, this time, less noise and gas fumes. So I ordered the Ryobi TrimmerPlus 137r. I thought the quick link attachments were a good idea, if they worked.
After ordering the TrimmerPlus and before I received it, I was concerned that I had just ordered a glorified cake mixer. I began to have my doubts about the performance I could expect from an electric trimmer.
Amazon and Tool Crib delivered the Trimmer (before the estimated delivery date) and as soon as I saw the heft in this Trimmer my doubts started to subside. I took it out into my huge backyard and garden. Whatever doubts I had about this electric Trimmer's performance evaporated. Not only does it perform identical to a gas unit but in many ways it's cleaner, quieter and a whole lot healthier. I had no problems dragging an extension cord around with the Ryobi Trimmer. The bump feature to extend out more string works easily and flawlessly. Trimming under plants not a problem with the straight shaft design.
Now to slip on the Cultivator attachment and chew up that garden. What a great maintenance tool. I am very satisfied. Definitely a superior product.

I've had this unit for several years now, and it has performed flawlessly. It's quite powerful, much more so than you might expect from an electric. It tears through the toughest stuff my property has to offer. If this won't go through it, I know it's time for the Husky chainsaw. The motor is at the top of the handle, as with gas powered models, which helps with the balance.

The variety of attachments available are a nice plus. I've got the edger and just ordered the blower/vac.

I have only 2 complaints about it. The first is that the unit's overall length isn't adjustable; I'm 5' 9" and I find the unit a little too long to allow the head to lay flat - it tilts slightly up in front. This isn't a major problem however. Perhaps this isn't an issue with the 132r, which is the curved-shaft version, but I've heard that staight shafts are more reliable. Second, this is a fairly loud machine. I don't know if it's as loud as a gas-powered model, but it is louder than I expected (and hoped for). It's not the motor that makes so much noise, it's the head and, to a lesser extent, the shaft mechanism. I sometimes wear ear protection if I'm going to be trimming for a long time; the rather high-pitched drone of the trimmer's head can get to you after a while.

Bottom line: if you don't mind dragging an extenstion cord around (get a good one, or you may cut right through it with the trimmer), this is an excellent alternative to a gas model.

Yes, the downside is that you will go through these more quickly than some. I burn through about 3 to 4 per season for a moderately sized lawn.

The upside is that this somewhat slender string will not kill and maim when you (inevitably) get your (or Fido's) foot or ankle in harm's way. It will sting, of course, but not slash and draw blood as most other gages do. In addition, the spool is pretty cheap, easily replaced, and available everywhere (no small point when you suddenly run out late on a Sunday afternoon).

Arrived quickly and in good condition. Since it is a part replacement, I have not had occasion to use the product.

I couldn't find this replacement spool at some major Hardware Stores. Actually found it at Amazon and ordered four of them (that made the order have free shipping). Doubt if I will ever need any more but now I know where to go!

The Yard Man wheeled string trimmer is a great product when it works properly. However, 10 minutes after I started the mower and began to cut grass, the belt came off. I put it back on but it would not stay on when the mower was engaged. I took it to a certified repair center and they would not repair it under warranty. I paid $20.00 twice to have the belt put back on the mower. Yard man customer service told me that I needed a part to fix the mower and after giving me the part number, told me to go back to the repair shop and tell them to order the part. They would not order under warranty because they told me Yard Man would not pay. I refused to pay to have it fixed because it is supposed to be under warranty. I have emailed Yard Man but did not get a response. I have other Yard Man products and have been very happy with them. I am unhappy with this purchase, but have been uanble to return the mower or get anyone to fix it for me. I'm disappointed because I like to buy "American made" and I expect a merchant to stand behind their warranty. I have disputed this charge on my VISA because I have not other avenue. I would not recommend buying this product through Amazon.com.

Yee Haw!

I bought this mower because we let the weeds on our one acre property grow too high to mow with a regular mower. This trimmer/mower did the job. The cutting height can be adjusted easily, and everything else about it is accessible, even for a mechanical dummy like me. It not only hacks down the tallest weeds, but if you then back up and run over them again, it will nicely mulch them up, so you don't have to haul off the weed corpses.
The string that comes with this is pretty wimpy and wore out quickly, but Orchard Supply (and probably a lot of other places) sells a tougher string that you can cut to size yourself and save a lot of money.
The oil is supposed to be changed after the first two hours of use. We (I, my husband and our college age son) could not figure out how to drain the oil without getting oil all over the flywheel, etc. So I took it to a lawnmower shop where they PUMPED it out and charged me $... Not too bad, considering that the next oil change is after 50 more hours of use.
I honestly can not find any faults with this machine. It does what it's supposed to do. What more can you ask?

This unit has a ton of power, clutch to disconnect the head when idle, and lots of torque. It really goes, you don't need to rev it way up like a 2 stroke. The grass and plants fly when you get this sucker cutting. Dad and I both got one, we had 2strokes but like this unit better.

Drawbacks - It does vibrate a bit and can cause your hand to go numb somewhat. Suggest mounting handle with inner tube rubber isolation.

I have had this for about a month now The first time I used it the line used up really quick and the spool gets tangled inside really easy. It does have alot of power I wish it came with a hareness I am still trying to find one. it is not much quieter then any other 2 stroke. Over all pleased with its performance.

Good basic consumer trimmer. Like the low speed torque of 4-cycle engine and no gas and oil to mix.

Note: only a very unwise person would use this tool without thoroughly reading the directions. In addition, if you are new to chain saws, I highly recommend that you spend your time reading/understanding/buying the approriate protective gear. Tradtional chain sawing is itself a risk business; chain sawing large limbs over-head is doubly so.

Why I took away one star...
+ It does not come with the chain lubricant (argh!); this is the only time I've ever purchased a home-use tool that required a lubricant without a sample being provided
+ The instructions are only fair
+ I had to trim the electrical plug for the provided remington plugs to connect (chainsaw to the pole) -- QA should be higher on a peice of equipment this serious

Net/net: it does this job Remington says it does, but it is not for folks who are unwilling to make the time to take the appropriate saftey steps.

basically,this saw will do what it is supposed to,but there are a few caveats.if you stand underneath while cutting,wear protection-chips/dust drop into eyes,hair.if using extended away from you,all the weight is out on the end.gets really heavy after 6=7 cuts.as the cut finishes,it is almost impossible to keep the saw from dropping down 5-6 inches,so ck for wires,etc first.it may be more controllable working on a ladder w/pole retracted-didn't try it that way.what did annoy me the most is that this tool, like almost everything else in the world,is made for right hand use only.to use it on the pole,i had to switch support hand/controlling hand. i have a strong engineering background & know the trigger interlock button could easily [and inexpensively] been made to be pushed from either side,at least on the pole.i will probably modify mine,but someone could get hurt because they were unable to control cutting w/their dominant hand.

The trimmer works great, except that the line keeps needing adjustment. And the process to do it is cumbersome...

After using battery-powered and electric trimmers for years, I didn't realize how much better a gas-powered trimmer could be. Wow! This thing is amazing and my lawn looks so much better after using it just once.

The Troy-bilt system itself is rather nice; the engine runs well, the spring-assist starter is great, and the quick-change system makes it very easy and quick to accomplish the multitude of tasks typically done when working on your lawn. It's just great.

The handle is comfortable and the weight balance makes it very easy to hold and use without a lot of stress on your wrist or forearm. This is a pretty well-thought-out design.

Started fairly easily, though it does take longer than expected to warm up so the choke can be shut off. Like the light weight of the weed eater -- that's the main reason I bought it. Would prefer a single-line unit, as the double-line is more difficult to "fix" when it's necessary to remove the line head and refeed the line. Also, this model seems to quit rather easily if the lines are too long (rather than the lines being cut off by the protection guard), or if the weeds being cut are thick. Have to run it at quite high speeds just to keep it running. I do like the unit, though not as much as I had expected as I've had great experiences with Weed Eater equipment in the past. Would I buy it again? Not if I could find a comparitively light weight unit that had only one line, which I couldn't.

Bought Weedeater brand new from Sears in February, 2006. Used 2 times without a problem (actually like better than the Craftsman trimmers i had before.)During the 3rd use, after about 10 minutes i stopped the trimmer to remove some small branches in the area where i was to trim next. After restarting trimmer ( which started on first try) i noticed the pull cord did not rewind into the trimmer. Have not been able to start trimmer since . I believe problem is the Starter Sping for rewinding the pull cord rope, which is not covered in the warrenty.

I had been looking to purchase a new weedeater, and so knew a good price when I saw it. Getting free shipping from Amazon on this made the choice easier. I wanted a light-weight, easy to operate weedeater and that is exactly what I got. The price was right and the free shipping made the purchase on-line less expensive than going to a big-box store. It arrived quickly as well. I have used the weedeater for approximately 15 hours or so of run time and it starts easly, is light weight and easy to handle, and has plenty of power for my needs. My wife even finds it easily manageble and not to heavy for her to use.
