JB
Fein Multimaster is an awesome tool
Specialty tool and worth every penny!I have both the standard size triangular sanding pad and the narrow 'finger' pad and these have been able to meet all my sanding needs. The standard triangular pad allows you to turn the sanding sheet to a 'fresh' sanding point, very handy. I use the 'hook and loop' sanding sheets and they perform much better than the peel and stick variety. I can not speak to the use of the flush cutting attachment (I have a Bosch 1640VS electric flush cutting saw), and have never had occassion to use the scraper attachment; if I have scraping to do it is usually pulling up tile floors and I use a heat gun and broad putty knife.
Note...This tool can be very aggressive. The first time I used it, I put too much pressure on one of the sanding points and in the blink of an eye wore off the point of the sanding sheet AND the rubber covered point of the sanding pad! So go easy on your first project and get a feel for the way this tool functions on some scrap wood and plywood samples. I didn't ruin the project but I did have to replace the sanding pad. Fein has most of the more common sanding grits available in both sheet profiles.

Light Weight, Great BalanceI also picked up a dust bag and was surprised at how well it worked. It's a little annoying hanging out there but it really catches a lot of dust (nice for working inside people's houses).
Great saw AND great caseCASE - The reason I'm writing this review is that some other reviewers have commented about the case, that it's too small and doesn't have room for accessories like extra blades, the rip fence, and the dust bag... I say, please take another look. The folks at Porter Cable didn't make a great saw, only to have a mental lapse when designing the case. Perhaps the case design is just a bit too clever, and the otherwise great manual didn't give any clues as to how to get everything to fit. So, here goes:
Let's assume you have the saw, along with an extra blade or two, the rip fence, and the dust bag, all out of the case. Here's how to get them to easily fit:
1) Blades - Notice the small post in the bottom of the case. It's 5/8" dia., just like it should be for blades, and about 1/3" tall --- good for storing at least two blades. Put the blades on the post.
2) Saw - Put the saw in its normal place, sitting on the left and right "ramps" in the case bottom. Now, the saw holds the blades in place, so they can't get tossed around in there and nick the power cord.
3) Stuff the power cord into the space behind the hand grip of the saw, and to the right of the motor housing.
4) Rip fence - Place the rip fence horizontally across the motor housing, with the "T" end to the left, and the long bar toward the power cord. It's okay if one of the ends at the "T" points upward, because the lid has clearance for it when it's closed.
5) Dust bag - Roll up the bag aound its internal wire frame, just like rolling up a windowshade. Then place the bag in the case, right along the front edge of the saw, between the case handle and the blade arbor. Orient the elbow end of the bag toward the left, so that it "turns the corner" around the dust chute end of the saw. Finally, the right end of the wire frame will need to be "tucked" into place inside the rim of the case bottom (bends the wire just slightly; don't worry, it snaps right back).
6) Close the case lid. If everything is in place, nothing binds at all as the lid closes.
Well, if it sounds complicated, just do it once; it isn't. -Took me less than 20 seconds on my first try, and I wasn't even hurrying.
True, it would be nice if the case came with metal latches like Porter-Cable's Tiger Saw case. But, if the plastic latches ever break, I'll just cut them away and put metal latches on the case from a hardware store.
I like the high impact plastic case better than a metal one, because it absorbs shock better if dropped, and doesn't scratch up my truck bed and tool box, which would then begin rusting. Though I have the largest WeatherGuard saddle-style box, there's still only so much room in there, so the compact case helps.
Also, the storage of the blade wrench in the saw's handle is a nice touch.
Bottom line - The P-C 743K saw and case have been refined to near perfection, especially for the money, which is why I give them 5 stars.
College WoodworkerThe main thing that sets this saw apart from the rest is the magnesium plate. Pick up any other brand and you'll find the bases are usually warped (even if they aren't, just one drop and they will be). The porter cable bases are straight everytime and are stronger than any other brand. The porter cable bases also slide accross materials very smoothly, other brands often catch on imperfections in the wood, not the porter cable.
I use my saw for precise rips and crosscuts (because I can't fit a table saw in my shop) so I need accurate and consistant cuts, this saw comes through everytime. I recommend buying a clampdown fence if you'll be doing a lot of rips and bevels that require table saw like accuracy, plus it's nice for routing and a host of other uses.
My only minor gripe is not with the tool itself. The case pretty lame. It's fine if you just want to store the tool in a safe place, but if you're doing any job-site toating you might want to invest in something that can fit your saw and it's accessories (like another blade) into one case.
I also recommend getting a Freud Diablo 40 tooth blade if you care about making clean cuts. The blade that mine came with is not bad, I use it to cut joists, decking, sheets, or whatever else that doesn't need a super clean cut. Freud makes my favorite blades and this one cuts like butter. It's also got thin kerfs (though it's still very very strong) so it takes less of your wood with it. Perfect match for this saw, rips purple heart and iron wood with ease.
I'd recommend looking at the 347K as well to see which side you like the blade on better. I thought that I wanted the blade right at first but after cutting a while with both (my work buddies happen to have both models, lucky me) I found that the blade left was actually better for a right hander like me.
The bottom line is you can't get a better saw for the money. This tool will be around as long as you're a woodworker (not sure how long if you're a serious framer, but I suspect it would last as long as any saw (including worm-drives) that you can buy). I got mind for ... $$ dollars at Home Depot (20% of all tools christmas sale) and it the best money I ever spent. Buy this saw. Five Stars.

junk motors
Great Saw / Poor MotorThe motor is the exception to the quality. It is cheaply made and failed in the middle of a project. I replaced the start capacitor (it had overheated and was leaking oil) and upon startup, the motor lost rpm, stopped and completely blew out the replacement start capacitor. The motor is out of warranty and I found out the windings were charred and shorted out. Needs a new motor. Found out that there were no gaskets on the motor end caps or anywhere else that I could find allowing sawdust to penetrate the motor (so much for TEFC). This can lead to premature failure but I don't know if that was the direct cause of my motors failure. I didn't expect it to last forever but 2 1/2 years of light use shouldn't cause failure. I have other machines that are 30 to 40 years old that have had much more extensive use and the motors are still good.
I will not be buying my replacement motor from Jet!
One other mild complaint... the dust collection box could be better designed to channel the sawdust down to the collection port. It just stacks up inside the cabinet and needs perodic cleaning. A minor inconvenience.
Would give it five stars if not for the poor motor quality.
It's a dreamThe delivery of my new Jet was prompt and courteous. The trucking company scheduled delivery for 1:oo pm, and I was called by the driver 3 times before the delivery to update me on the schedule. There was no charge for a lift gate, he backed the truck up my drive, put the box on a palette jack a placed in the garage exactly where I wanted it.
Unpacking was uneventful. My son and I slid the saw off of the plate and onto the Jet mobile base. From that point, it took about an hour and a half to finish the assembly. Everything lined up and the fit and finish was perfect. Included inside the base was a spec sheet showing run out, blade alignment to miter slot, RPM and max height. All of these were far better than the accepted range.
I then thru on a Freud combo blade and did so test cuts. Like the preverbal hot knife thru butter. Didn't have a nickle in my pocket to test vibration, so I used a dime instead. Balanced it, and then cut a piece of 4/4 oak without knocking it over.
I have since been building shop cabinets with 3/4 melamine. The 50 inch fence is great for those large, heavy sheets.
This is the third Jet tool I have purchased. Additionally I have the 6 inch jointer and a 16 inch band saw. While these machines are not Powermatic and Laguna, they still have the best quality for the dollar available today.

A good idea, but needs more power.
Ideal Yard Care Center for a 1 Acre YardRecently my old cordless grass trimmer died on me and I did some searching on the internet for a new unit. I came across the Black & Decker CCC3000 18-Volt Cordless Lawncare Center with Charging & Storage Station during my searching and it seemed to offer significant improvements with the 3 interchangeable batteries and a 3 battery charger station.
We have about a 1 acre yard which is largely grass with some trees/shrubs around the house. With the 3 interchangeable batteries and the 3 battery charging station included with the CCC3000, I can get all the grass trimming done on one set of charges. The grass trimmer is powerful enough when running on a well charged battery. Same with the hedge trimmer which does a nice job on trimming yews, junipers, cedars, cottoneasters. The blower is a nice extra to get the grass/debris off the driveway and sidewalk. The package is reasonably priced and replacement batteries can be purchased. The batteries are recycable and the cost of recycling is prepaid.
I don't recommend items that I have purchased unless I have been very pleased them. This Black & Decker CCC3000 18-Volt Cordless Lawncare Center with Charging & Storage Station is one that I recommend.
For Quick Light Work - It Is SUPER!!Yes, it pulls the 18 volt batteries down quickly, but I have found on my "almost" 3/4 acre lot, that the three included batteries with this kit can trim my entire fence and curb line, and also blow my driverway and patio off without re-charging. Sometimes, I admit, I really need that fouth battery (am thinking about springing for another stand-alone 18 volt blower which has a charger and two batteries), but these tools are so convenient and lightweight, the quick run-down has really been a small price to pay.
I have heavy duty gas versions of each, but have used the trimmer once since buying this kit. I love these tools, and my wife thinks they are GREAT - she loves the switch on and go, along with the super light weight.
I would buy again. I am not easy to impress, but this kit has my vote.

- Package includes a carbide-tipped blade
- Powerful 15 amp motor handles all materials
- Electronic speed control maintains blade speed regardless of load
- Miters up to 60 degrees right with positive stops at common angles
- Bevels at 45 degrees to both sides--right and left

BUYER BEWARE - RECONDITIONED UNITS not new !!So, BUYER BEWARE ! Amazon is not selling a new unit. These are old, used, good condition reconditioned saws, which are fine, but worth $$$ less than Amazon is selling them for....
USED ..... RECONDITIONED ..... NOT NEW !!!
POORLY SHIPPED ! The very heavy saw was just thrown into a big box with a bunch of air filled packing cushions. It is no wonder that many people have noted damage to their saws in the other reviews. So, again, WARNING WARNING BUYER BEWARE !!!
And AMAZON, I thought your standards were higher.

Great Saw - Curious PricingToday the price for the LS1212 had risen to $699.95 on the Amazon web site - that is a $121 increase in one week! Needless to say I went to another discounters web site and purchased the saw for last week's price of $579.00.
I don't understand a 10% price increase (in one week) on this saw (from the largest tool discounter in the world) but I suggest that if you are looking to purchase the LS1212 you might want to shop around.

I Have Upgraded My "10" to a 10CW2!!First of all, I must tell you that I am very glad to finally have a table saw. I have been shopping for over two years and was not really sure I wanted the Jet until the Christmas tool sale at Lowe's. Had it not been for that I can't say that I would have committed to this saw had it still been at full price.
Actually, the Jet was my first pick but I had since developed some doubts about them. The bargain price lured me in (much better than here,) but if you're like me you want to know what I like and dislike about it.
First the bad, in order of personal annoyance:
1. As I had stated, I have upgraded with the cast wings from Jet (Big $$$$) but in the end it was worth it. 'Nough said.
2. The fence and miter gauge. They are both just OK, but to get real accuracy you will need to spend at least another $400-$500 to replace both... the cheapest (...) Or for a total of $950-1000.00+/- (saw included) for good controllable, stable set ups. (edit: Though I had come to terms with it after much playing around, but found a newer Micro-Adjust fence on eBay. An improvement to be sure. I'd still replace the miter gauge, (Delta seems to make a nice one that doesn't cost too much) but it is usable as long as you check it carefully after EVERY adjustment. Don't rely on the scale or the "flip-stop" (it bends easily) to do it for you. It won't! Trash the "JetFence."
3. The dust collection "hood" stinks! I will replace this too. (Edit: I made my own. See my review of the Jet hood #JW1005 and I'll tell you how.)
4. The safety splitter and anti-kickback paws are nearly useless. They are difficult to install and uninstall when necessary, real knuckle busters. OK, we all know that most people who actually USE their table saws remove these items most of the time, but I would use them more often (I'm a safety guy. I like my fingers right where they are) if it weren't for the time and effort it takes to uninstall them when I need a dado blade, or am running 4" tall material through the blade. You can replace these with aftermarket quick release/quick setup items for around $430.00. What a bargain. }:-( That's nearly as much as the saw originally cost.
5. The drive belt: Before I made any important cuts with this tool I immediately replaced the drive belt with a PowerTwist Plus A20-60. My cheap Jet now runs smoother than my neighbors' more expensive Delta. (Please see my review of this product for complete details.) It's WELL worth the $30.00 investment.
6. Mostly the manual was enough for setup. As others here have said, I set mine up in about four hours except a few areas where I found it lacking: It was a little vague in the area of converting the saw/motor to 230 volt operation, like what current (amps) it would draw at 230? Should I install a 20 amp plug, receptacle and breaker, or a 30 amp? (Answer: Install the 20 amp if you convert); Also a few more suggestions about lining up and leveling the side extensions would've been nice, like how to bend them more accurately; and finally, not all of the various hardware bags were clearly marked and I found myself guessing... correctly as it turns out, at what hardware the manual was referring to.
Note: For those who have read other customer reviews here, mine did come with it's own blade. It's a 40T, carbide tipped, and it ain't bad either! It does leave a little to be desired in the cross-cutting department. I do get some tear-out with it, but it's OK. I will replace it with a better one eventually, but it is quite good for a "get acquainted" type blade. (I did! See Freud TK406, F60T. For $35.00 you can't beat it with a Forrest.)
The good:
1. The motor is strong and starts, and pulls evenly to full speed, and can be converted to 230v operation.
2. The arbor assembly is strong and smooth (gear, not belt) operating.
3. The blade (see above comments.)
4. For the most part the saw was easy to setup.
Suggestion: No matter how much room you have or don't have, get a mobile base. Jets' own works well and is easy to set up but is a little clumsy in actual use. The Jet base has four individual wheels (back)/casters (front) to lock and unlock which is not so convenient when you have 30, or 52" fence rails to get around, and it doesn't allow for easy side-to-side movement either. On the other hand, my neighbor recently set up a Ridged Herc-u-lift on his Delta (he said, "$50!".) Four casters that come up all the way when not in use and a one foot pedal operation. I am not a fan of the "Big Orange" but I should have done this.
My recommendation: If you are set on getting the Jet, get this model with the cast iron wings (suffix:"CW2" Usually about $100 more, and it will cost you a LOT more ($250.00+ freight) later to do it as I did) and if the funds allow, the Xacta fence though the new Micro-Adjust fence from Jet is an improvement.
If you are cutting a lot of sheet material plan on building or buying a side table extension and an outfeed table. They're easy to build yourself and make a nice first project. (See Rockler for hardware kits.)
I hope this helps you decide and Good Luck with your own dreams!
Great saw for the moneyThe saw arrives in two boxes, one for the saw/stand, and one for the jet fence. Unlike the previous reviewer, I wasn't missing any hardware from the fence box. In fact I had everything I needed except for one hex screw which I was lucky enough to have on hand. Assembly wasn't hard at all, it went together easily within a few hours by myself. The blade was aligned to the miter slots out of the box, and it was simple to square the table extensions. The splitter/guard assembly took a bit more adjustment, but wasn't difficult to align.
Cutting wood with this saw is a dream compared to what I had. The cuts are very accurate, and there is little or no binding or burning. I think the older models of this saw came with a blade because other reviewers have mentioned one, but mine didn't. I bought a Freud multi purpose think kerf blade. There have been complaints about the jet fence, which I now appreciate. It's not something that can't be worked around, but it does wander around a bit during lock down. It seems there's a little play between full release and full down. You can work with it if you lock it down partially, tweak where you want it, then lock it down all the way. You shouldn't have to do that, but it works for the money.
Overall I'm very happy with the saw. If there were a negative aspect to it, it'd be the difficulty in quickly removing the blade guard. If you need to cut a dado or kerf, you have to loosen 2 bolts and pull the table insert. Seriously not a big deal, I'm sure most other saws in this class are the same. Unfortunately when you replace it you have to realign it again. Would've been cool if Jet devised some kind of quick release mechanism. Regardless, I would recommend this saw to anyone, I'm very satisfied.
4 stars with Jet Fence - 5 with Xacta IIRuns very good. I never liked the Jet fence though, it seems a little short and I wish it had more support on the outfeed side.
I ended up buying a xacta fence II which is made by HTC. Was like night and day.
This functions almost like a cabinet saw, at least in my dreams with these additions:
I replaced the v-belt with a link belt which made the saw quite and a bit smoother. I also replaced the manufacturer supplied trunion bolts in the saw with the PALS (Precision Alignment System) which allows you to micro adjust your blade's alignment.
Assembly as all my Jet purchases have been a breeze. Until it's time to align the belt and apply tension to the belt. That is the tricky part with a one-man assembly.

- Oversized 66-inch adjustable infeed and outfeed cast-iron tables support long work pieces
- 1-horsepower, single-phase, 115/230-volt motor provides solid power
- Cast-iron fence assembly features positive stops at plus/minus 45 degrees
- Patented controlled chip three-knife cutterhead design provides smooth cutting

Great Tool, Poor ManualThe machine came in two boxes; one for the base cabinet and one for the jointer body itself. I also purchased the Powermatic mobile base. The mobile base went together in minutes. With the base cabinet mounted on the mobile base, the tailgate of my pickup accommodated a fairly easy slide of the body from pickup to the base - some grunting but I was able to do it myself (I do, however, recommend a helper). While the machine assembled fairly easily, I started finding discrepancies between the book and the machine. Some were substantial. During this time I stopped assembly and looked at some basic procedures such as rabbiting. That section was obviously wrong because the illustration was there with only part of the text. There were also some assembly instructions in error. I muddled my way though the assembly and the machine has been perfect since then.
I contacted Jet regarding the book errors and initally got a very defensive answer. Within days I received a second email and also a call apologizing for the state of the manual. Apparently a version was released during a wholesale conversion to Jet formatting. They assured me it would be corrected.
Again, the machine is perfect. It has had a lot of walnut, Oak and other hardwoods run through it and it works flawlessly. It is smooth and relatively quiet. I purchased the plastic exhaust fitting but removed it. Without dust collection hooked up it just plugs up the exhaust chute. Without the fitting shavings clear the machine nicely. I have had to remove blades once and realigning them was about as much fun as most jointers. I recommend buying a jointer pal or similar tool when you buy the jointer.
I rate the machine itself with 5 stars. However, discrepancies with technical data concerns me enough that I dropped my overall rating to 4 stars
great buy!!!I've had this jointer for about 4 years now and have been very pleased with it.You can't go wrong with this jointer.
When looking for a jointer you want to get the longest and widest bed you can afford.
I buy all my wood in kiln dried rough cut form from the sawmill and my jointer had over 10,000 bdft run threw it over the 4 years Ive had it.
It does an excellant job preparing the wood before going into my planer and edging for all my glue ups.
If your serious about woodworking and want to do quality work this machine will do nicely in your shop.
The very best you can buy.......

UnacceptableSo he called Tool Crib and arrangements were made to return the old one and send a new one, which you very nicely did. That one was more out of tolerance than the first. So he called and both saws were picked up at the same time. I have an email which states that you will credit us for the saw. He (son) has made other arrangements for a saw. We do most of our tool business with you and are sorry that this happened, which I am sure you are also. Perhaps you received a bad batch of saws from Powermatic. Vernon Harrington
