goes where no sander has gone before
Very dependable and durable toolOnly thing you have to do to maintain this great tool is to change bearing. You can get them from Makita or many other on-line part shop.
Unique 1" belt sander is a great little toolIt's a very specialized tool, and in my case, there haven't been many uses for it - however, when only a small belt sander will do the trick, this tool has worked well, without any problems.
It's light, safe to use, has plenty of power, changing belts is simple and fast, the handle for your left hand greatly aids in tool control, and overall, is well designed. The only feature mine lacks is variable speed, which the newer sanders have.
Even though the belt is narrow, it can throw off lots of dust, so consider using it outside (if possible), or use a respirator. It isn't a good choice for sanding flat wood much wider than an inch, since it's difficult to not leave groove marks at the belt edges.

Too much fun....I've had this tool in my shop now for a week or so, and it is really too much fun. My sweetie has some micro turning tools that I have always had a heck of time sharpening because they are so small. The tormak changed all that, once it is set up, these little tools are no longer a challenge, not even those #%$&**% tiny gouges. Our other turning tools are also enjoying a high level of sharpness. I've pretty much gone thru all the tools in my shop that have a cutting edge...chisel's, planes, etc., learning to use the machine and all the jigs that came with it. The video is excellant and the manual pretty complete, well layed out and plenty of pictures. Setup for differant tools does take a little time and patience, but I think with use, the time factor will be greatly reduced. It does a fantastic job on all cutting tools and I will miss this tool when it returns to it's home.
This is not a tool that I can afford, especially with all the attachments, but it is definitly on my wish list. Maybe one or all of the grandkids will get together next christmas and surprise me. (Yeah...that'll happen)
I would recommend this tool to all woodworkers who want sharp cutting tools and can afford this tool. It is very solid, fit and finish are excellent, runs smoothly, and very fast once set up.Maybe someday........
Tormek SuperGrind
Accurate and EffectiveThis replaced a high speed grinder with 'special' white and pink stones plus and assortment of aftermarket jigs, diamond stones, ceramic stones, natural stones and other stuff. All of them helpful but slow and not as accurate.
If I figure all I spent on the other stuff I was half way to the Tormek package. I should have listened to my wife when she said "just buy the best".

18V Power + Lightweight + Versatility = Convenience
A true do-it-all, do-it-yourselfer toolI just recently completed the installation of a new fireplace and chase(non-masonry chimney). I can say with complete confidence that I could not have done it without the 5-n-1. Oh, sure, I could have gone out and rented/bought the tools that I needed. I could have gone up and down 20 feet of scaffolding to swap tools. But, the time and cost of doing so would have been a real detriment. With this tool I was able to keep everything right by my side and swapping is a matter of seconds. Another huge advantage was the 18V battery pack. If I can help it, I'll never go back to extention cords:-) Because the tool comes with (2) batteries, one is always charging(it only took about 40 minutes) while the other one is in use. Not one time in nearly 3 weeks of this project did I have to stop working to wait on a battery. On top of that, they are amazingly powerful. For instance, I used the recip. saw to cut through 6-8 floor joists in my crawl space and the thing never flinched. Needless to say, I'm a completely satisfied customer. I recommend the 5-n-1 with 5 stars.

Great for cutting plaster walls
The Best Yet for Cutting Plaster
The ONLY working solution to make curved cuts in floor tilesAll rotary cutters, INCLUDING THIS ONE, would say "Do not use on floor tile". Well, you would not be able to do the job using ONLY this diamond cutter, but wait, there is a solution that worked unexpectedly fine for me.
Follow these steps:
1. Draw a cut-off line on the front side of you tile with a pencil.
2. Using a rotary tool with variable speed capability and this cutter, work along the line making superficial groove (1/16 of an inch is enough). IMPORTANT: use low speed setting (up to 8000 RPM), otherwise the cutter will overheat momentarily; work for no longer than 3 seconds at a time, then just let it idle for another 3 - 5 seconds to cool off.
3. When you are done with the groove, set you rotary tool aside - you won't need it anymore - and use a wet saw to make parallel cuts every 1/4 of an inch. Cut it all the way up to you groove. When you're done, you can snap off cuts strip by strip at the place where your groove is, which will result in ideally precise cut on the face of your tile.
THE BOTTOM LINE: no other tool can be used to make a precise inner curved cut in a floor tile.
Smart, isn't it? :-) And I'm not even a pro!
Thanks Dremel!

Makita 9227CX3 7" Electronic Sander-PolisherThe tool came with two bonnets, one to apply compound and another for final polishiing. The compounding bonnet is the only one I used since I discovered this same bonnet also polishes to a deep luster as the wax you're applying hazes over - the bonnet polishes this haze to nice deep shine. I also used a small spray bottle of water to wet small areas to help spread the wax - it worked great. I am ordering two new compounding bonnets for spares. Suggest you test out the bonnets and find out for yourself before ordering more....
I am really happy with this tool, and I feel it is well worth the money. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a similar tool.

The Holy Drill
The "Hammer" in Masonary Drills!
Milwaukee tools' 1/2" hole shooter is the BEST

Tips and Advice...I proactively bought the link v-belt to replace my relatively new belts in my jointer, table saw and drill press. Given the cost and hindsight being 20-20 I probably would have waited til my "regular" v-belts wore out.
First off, I was getting terrible results until I found out that the "T end" of the links needs to trail in the rotation of the belt. Given proper installation, I can do the penny balance trick on my table saw turnng it on and off.
I really do not understand all the superman-like transformations people are describing. The noise level is not radically different and my machines were not vibrating that much to begin with. Maybe there is significant benefit to smaller contractor style tools, but on larger, properly tuned gear (250lb and up range) I think the difference is probably not worth the cost of proactive replacement. There are much better upgrades that can be had in the woodshop for power tools.
Worth Every Penny
Power Twist V-BeltI didn't know exactly what fixed belt size would fit the motors pulley, the Power Twist offered the best solution. Grizzly's offered the best price on this item as I shopped around.
I had to play around with the links to understand how the loop link ends closed, as the instructions and pictures were not that informative. This variable sized link belt worked great on the new table saw replacement motor pulley. Slippage nill, and vibration undectable. Just be sure to orient the belt arrows to the direction of pulley turn.
