Drills Review The Best Quick Release
I use a cordless drill so much that I have a holster for it on my toolbelt. I have tried many different "quick change" bit holders. This is the only one that doesn't get pushed back by the holster. All the other quick change type products are to big and would constantly get pushed back and release the bit causing it to fall out. It's slim design is great. Why do the other manufactures make such big clunky ones? BUY THIS IT RULES.

Drills Review perfect for tight spots
Bought these bits because they are shorter than the standard spade bit and allow you to bore out studs and joists with a standard drill. The dual spurs help these cut fast. Any electrician or plumber should love these!

Drills Review A superior drill press
I looked long and hard before shelling out the $$$ for this drill press. I even spent about 2 months searching for a used one with similar features. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that there was no way to duplicate it's features.

It is an industrial machine that I will use for both wood and metal, yet it operates off 230 volt single phase, thanks to a variable frequency drive.

The speeds are variable over a wide range thanks to the variable frequency drive, and it retains full torque throughout those speeds.

Switching between the two speed ranges is by a gearshift lever on the side of the head. The gear mechanism is bathed in oil so it shifts ranges and runs smoothly and quietly.

The production table is really unique. It rotates, when the table is unlocked, on a 5" bearing. You just won't believe it how smoothly. And by the way. both the table lock and table raise/lower are accessible from the front of the machine which is a REAL plus for me. Now I don't have to crawl around the back of the drill press and bang my head on my shaper to get to it.

That production table can support over 200#, and even when fully loaded it moves up and down smoothly and easily. That ability allows me to place a 100#, 16" by 8" XY table ( a new piece available from Grizzly) on it along with a heavy 8" vise and still have plenty of load capacity left to handle heavy workpieces. On my old machine I had to lift on the table while cranking and really struggle to move it up, even unloaded. Now it is just one hand on the crank, even with 160# of XY table and vise loaded on the table. This table is perhaps the best feature of the machine.

When combined with the finest Milwaukee cobalt drill bits and a top quality Jacobs chuck with integral 3MT shaft, the runout is exceptional. I can drill through most woods at and angle with essentially no tearout on the exit hole, even without brad point bits.

The 6" spindle travel allows for easier setups and less fussing with table height.

I haven't had an opportunity to use the tapping feature, but I'm sure it will be just as smooth as everything else I've done with it.

I give Jet a lot of credit for designing a really nice machine, and getting it fabricated to very high quality from an asian manufacturer. I'm glad I purchased it, and would recommend it to anyone who needs a high quality drill press.

My ONLY issue was with the shipping crate which had been damaged on the bottom (the pallet) which didn't harm the machine but made it a bit difficult to pick off the truck with a forklift.

Drills Review My Johnson Level is perfect
A good way to tell if this type of tool is accurate is to place it on as level a surface as you can find, very carefully note the reading - then, flip the level end over end and take another careful reading. (Make sure that the level is in the same place for each reading.) There should be NO perceptible difference between the readings. Then, do the same thing on a vertical surface, such as a wall or post in a store. If the tools are brand new and have a sales label over one end, shim the same spot on the other end with a piece of that label, so the label's thickness won't affect the test.

I purchased my 6' Johnson level from Home Depot. It was the only one of six identical Johnson tools they had in stock that passed the above accuracy test. The other 5 were off by up to 1/8" over the length of the level. That is not in accordance with Johnson's stated spec of "accuracy to 0.5 mm per meter". To clarify, the worst tool read perfectly level on the first part of the test, but when flipped end-over-end, needed a 1/8" shim on one end for THAT side to [also] read "level". A couple of those six levels were perfect for either the horizontal or vertical readings, but not both.

I have no idea if only 1 in 6 being perfect is typical, and since I bought mine over a year ago, this might have been a fluke. However, based on MY experience, you might consider buying your level at a local store, after testing it for accuracy. Or, if you buy it online, test the level after you receive it, and return it if it's off.

My level is a terrific tool. Absolutely 5-star. It's perfectly machined, the vials are very well done, the yellow paint and printing is flawless, and the aluminum is a good compromise between weight and strength. I'd get the same level again, but, I'd still purchase it locally.

Drills Review Excellent choice for the DIYer; might be a little 'light duty' for the pro
I've been doing-it-myself for over 15 years. Since I typically treat my tools with great care, they last much longer than most of the guys' on the block. And because of that I can get away buying a 'light-duty' tool versus paying extra for a professional or heavy-duty item.

I wouldn't necessarily label it 'light-duty', but maybe 'medium-duty.' A professional, everyday drywaller may find it to flex a bit more than other squares. When you get to the end (farthest from the four rivets) you may find that the straight edge had traveled a little on the drywall. The flex in the four-rivet connection is minimal, but would be noticeable to a pro.

I did like the notches cut out of both sides of the four-rivet connection. This helps to keep your knife/blade from hitting the ruler and nicking both.

**If you are planning on using this square everyday, then I suggest purchasing one with a stronger 90-degree connection.

**If you have trouble holding on to your tools, or tend to run them over with the truck, then I HIGHLY recommend this economical square.

**If you are a do-it-yourselfer like me, then I HIGHLY recommend this square.

Drills Review I really like this line of clamps
I just bought a pair of these (why does Amazon ship them each in their own huge box?), but already have a pair of these clamps in the 12" size that I have used extensively over the last 15 years or so and would not be without. Sure, they're great for clamping wood for gluing (I 'pad' with wood scraps), but they're also wonderful for larger jobs like building fences and decks, where you don't have a helper but need the board held or sitting in a certain place vertically (you don't have to actually clamp -- just clamp to a post and set the board on top of the handle side of the clamp until you can level and screw -- do you know what I mean?).

Anyway, I have a Heavy Duty version of the Jorgensen bar clamp and it would make a great weapon for pounding on an intruder, but it doesn't seem to have any better clamping ability than the 3700 series -- doesn't get any tighter to pull warped deck boards into place for example. In fact, I dislike the rubber pad thing, which is why I don't buy Bessey clamps, although many people like them.

Oh, I went to the local Chinese tool store at the flea market and bought several cheap bar clamps in various sizes. Never again! Tighten them just a bit too much and they make a 'tink' sound and are worthless from then on.

For the money you just can't beat the Jorgensen 3700 series clamps.

Drills Review Excellent budget wood clamps
You can't beat these clamps for the money. Enough pressure can be applied for glued joints without excessive flexing. Also, you can accumulate a good collection without going broke.

Drills Review Liked what I read about the new mason drill bit
I am trying to start my own custom table top water fountain business. My customers request varied styles and material for their own custom built water fountain for their home. I need a drill bit that will drill thru hard ceramic, and was glad to have found such a product on your web site. I am hoping that it will be for consumer resale very soon, as I would be a satisfied customer to purchace one.

Drills Review Best pocket tape around.
I admit it, I'm a tool whore. Not so much a gadget freak, but I do love good tools. I rarely need to measure anything 25' long, so why carry some big tape that pulls my pants down? Plumber's crack is bad enough. This little guy is great. The 1/2" tape is very sturdy, clear and easy to read, and the spring action is good. It fits in a front pocket so no need for a belt clip. A blade lock would be nice but not imperative.
But here's a gripe about tape measures in general. I'm right handed. I write with my right hand. I draw the tape with my left. So why the bleep are the numbers upside down? It's lame if you ask me.

Drills Review Great Tape, Great Buy!
I have owned one of these tapes for almost three years now and I love it! While you might think that it being all hard plastic it would break easy when dropped, it won't. I have dropped it to many times to count and still it's all in one piece. And I give it a big plus for having the 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2', 5/8", 3/4", and 7/8" markings right on it.
