Old-Time Quality, a Top Performer
Worth the moneyWell, they may work "OK", but this one is in a league all its own. Why? Mostly because of the weight of the thing. The machining is fine, the features, the size of wood it can handle, micro-adjustment and so forth are great. So is the large bearing surface and the oversized tightening handle (read: powerful clamping strength). But the one thing that makes this one the best is the weight. It stands up to whatever vibration, pinching, grabbing, and whatnot that might occur when shoving a piece of wood through a saw blade. There's no worry, ever, about kickback or losing control, and the smoothness of the cut is pretty nearly perfect thanks to the rock-solid support of the jig.
To illustrate: I regularly cut tenons and half-lap joints on the ends of up to 8 foot pieces of wood, sometimes at a 45 degree angle. That means the jig holds an 8 foot board sticking up at 45 degrees, and guides it safely and smoothly across the saw. Try THAT on your $119.99 nearly-as-good jig. Or don't- you'll damage yourself if you try.

cuts like a champ
Great Blade!
Excellent Non-Ferrous Metal Cutting BladeI needed to cut some thick aluminum stock (1/4" and 1-1/2") so I picked up a 10" LU89. Cuts like a dream. Very smooth, very safe. I did install a zero-clearance throat plate on the table saw and clamped the metal to the sliding miter so it wouldn't move, but what excellent cuts! Be sure to wear good eye and ear protection: chips fly. Lubricate the blade with WD-40 or other liquid metal lube (they say the blade won't clear chips if you use a wax lube) and it will just sing. It's like working with a mill.
I look forward to having this quality on my compound miter saw to cut aluminum extrusion for closet door hardware, shower doors and door thresholds.

Dead on!
PERFECT - PERFECT - PERFECTIt cuts precisely and accurately right out of the box. I did not have to adjust anything, and am very happy with this saw.
This 10" saw can do most things a 12" can, and since it's a 10" there is no blade deflection, as often experienced on 12" models.
I LOVE this saw, it's dead-on accurate and very comfortable to use. Only thing worth noting is that the left / right miter control is set-off to the right side of the saw, not up-front like other comparable brands. This is taking me some time to get used to, as I'm used to the miter control being located up front. I've been using this saw for a few days, and am slowly getting used to this feature.
The most important thing in a dual-bevel compound sliding miter saw (or any saw for that matter) is accurate cuts, and this saw delivers just that flawlessly!
I have never owned Makita tools, in fact up until now I have been a die-hard DeWALT fan. However, I did not like the new DeWALT DW718, and my DW708 was in need of replacement.
After trying the Bosch 4412, which was a HUGE disappointment, I decided to try the Makita saw, after hearing many professional carpenters highly recommending them.
This saw is easily THE best SCMS I have ever owned, and I would 100% recommend this saw to everyone who needs an accurate, precise saw for cutting and installing fine trim molding! Don't get me wrong, this saw can be used for cutting 2x stock, 4x stock, etc but it shines when cutting detailed trim molding!

Watch Out Big Boys
AT THIS PRICE YOU SHOULD BUY TWO!The quality is up there with the leading brands but this is a great bargain also. If you need a good honest deal this is it. Avenger service is also up there in quality. They are only a phone call away if you need anything or advice.
I write tool reviews for two boat building magazines and I try to find my readers high quality products that will help them build works of art. Believe me some of my readers boats could be museum pieces they are that beautiful. These tools that make those boats are made like Avenger blades.
Avenger also carries measuring tools that are super accurate and are not from a freight company. If you are looking for a laser kerf guide or a dial indicator to test your new Avenger blade run out you don't have travel any further than Avenger. I only buy the best for my shop and I have Avenger tools now.
