Power Saws Review Outstanding for a Home Yard
The Remington 076728J 1.25 hp 12" Electric Chain Saw is great for light use like trimming hedges and bushes which have heavier limbs that a hedge trimmer can't handle like up to about 2" in diameter. The two keys for long time usage are to sharpen the chain regularly and keep the oil level full. These two steps reduce the drag on the engine and give you years of dependable usage. Also as with any electric outdoor tool invest in a heavy duty electrical cable to power your chainsaw.

Power Saws Review Best value for a slider
This saw is made in Eastern Europe and is a lot cheaper the the Western saws like Felder or Hammer. I see no big difference in quality or function. It has a slider that takes up a lot less room then the panel sliders but may not be as robust. If you have never ownered a saw with a slider you are in for a big treat. Safety-
The Euro blade knife totally eliminates kickbacks. I have never had one kickback on this saw. Kick backs on the Asia Delta clones are a real and constant threat. This is not a trivial matter. One of the most common types of injuries incurred. Don't ignore this warning!!!
Not that much more then the best Asia saws equiped with a slider. If your considering an Asian made saw this is a much better deal.

Problems with the saw- None.

Power Saws Review Great Machine
I purchased this sasw a year ago and love it. The sliding table makes it easy to handle large sheet goods. Aligning the saw is a lot easier than an american tablesaw. The dust collection is pretty good compared to a Unisaw design, but not as good as a felder/hammer. I've used the saw to build a cherry computer desk and shop cabinets so far. It cut through the 8/4 cherry like a hot knife through butter.

Spend the money and get a safer better design. This saw was recommended by Kelly Mehler (The Tablesaw Book) in a review article in Woodworker's Journal.

Power Saws Review Skil 9250-01 8Amp Saw
Found it very easy to handle. Blade changing was quick and very easy. Cut thru a 4 inch log smoothly and quickly.

Power Saws Review Powerful
I recently bought this saw and am quite impressed with its power and versatility. It came with three saw blades, two for wood and one for metal. It's easy to handle and the speed dial and on/off switches are not in the least confusing. Sometimes, when working on a project, it's easy to get buttons mixed up and not get to the on/off switch soon enough. They're located in very ergonomically friendly spots which was super for me as a fairly inexperienced tool user. It's lightweight for me too being a female-type person. The vibration level was easy to handle too. There are many blades that can be purchased to do jobs not covered by the blades that came with it. The prices for these looked to vary from $5 to $30 which can increase options for this tool. I felt the price made it accessible for the common person who likes to do their own repairs and renovations while not sacrificing quality in the least. It brings out the inner amazon-worker woman in you. Great tool!

Power Saws Review Great Saw, Great Price
I needed a recip for a job and didn't want to pay a lot as my helper has a nice Milwaukee so i bought this at Home Depot. Was I impressed, have used it for over 10 hours on jobsites in everything from steel to plastic and never had a problem. My helper with the nice Milwaukeee ends up using my Skil as it is easier to hold and doesn't vibrate so much. I highly recommend this saw.

Power Saws Review I studied a long time before buying this saw
My woodworking hobby outgrew my starter saw a few years ago, but circumstances did not allow me to buy a new saw until this year. Since I really wanted to take my time with this decision, I studied the market, put my hands on every saw I could, and read everything I could find on the web about table saw features. Since I work in a library, I also had access to every table saw review in most of the woodworking magazines.

Eventually I came up with the following criteria:

    - I have a one car garage for a workshop, so space was a big issue. I was only looking at saws with 30" capacity to the right of the blade. I also limited my search to saws that could be pushed flat against a wall if need be. This left only hybrids and cabinet saws to consider.

    - I wanted the most powerful motor I could get without having to switch to 240 volts, yet have the option to rewire the saw for 240v later if I so choose (thus eliminating 3hp saws).

    - I wanted a solid fence that was accurate and DID NOT DEFLECT when locked down.

    - I wanted some decent dust collection abilities.

    - I wanted a quieter saw with less vibration than my old Delta contractor's saw.

    - I wanted to spend less than $1000 to get the saw, yet have lots of options for upgrading/outfitting later.

Eventually I chose the DeWalt 746, and here are my observations:

The saw package arrived in relatively undamaged crating (seven days after I ordered it from Amazon), and the saw was in perfect condition. Here's a tip - I ordered this saw over the phone and was given the option to pay $25 to have the saw delivered on the ground in my shop - well worth it! Assembly was not too bad (3 hrs), but the manual could have been a bit better. In my mind it was a bit too small and the illustrations corresponding to each step of assembly were not always on the same page! This saw is heavy and the cabinet/stand is very stiff and strong. I feel that the base of this saw is a much better design than the open stand of my old Delta. The saw also runs very smoothly - it is A LOT quieter than my last saw and vibration is at a minimum. The motor is about as powerful as you can get while running 120v without popping breakers left and right (which I have read is a common problem with the 2hp motors running 120v). I have not had any problems ripping 8/4 white oak with a good sharp blade... Speaking of blades, the one that came with this saw is inferior. I will keep it just for those instances where I want to cut treated lumber for outside projects or some other such task not requiring precision or smooth cuts. I have always wanted a Biesenmeyer fence, but I read good things about the fence on this saw and was eager to try it for myself. I am pleased to say that it is a very sturdy (and heavy) fence with some ingenious features. Most importantly this fence operates very smoothly, it does not deflect when locked down, it was easy to adjust square to the miter slot and blade, and zeroing the fence scale could not have been easier. I did have to fuss with it a bit to get the fence face set 90 degree to the table, but once I got it there it seems to hold the setting well. Dust collection on this saw is absolutely excellent. I hooked up my Fein Turbo II vacuum and basically no significant sawdust escapes. I couldn't be happier in that department. As for safety features, I like splitters and hate blade guards so I was pleased to find that the splitter/blade guard on this saw is able to be separated (I did just that). The splitter is easily adjustable and works well.

As far as downsides go... Well, as I mentioned earlier the assembly manual could have been way better and the blade that came with the saw is junk. Also (and I read this several places ahead of time) the table is not absolutely flat. Using a straightedge I found a couple of hollows in the surface. I don't think they are significant enough to throw off the accuracy of what I am doing with this saw, but be forwarned that if you use a tablesaw to cut something more intricate than tenons you may have a problem with this. Unlike other reviewers I didn't have too much of a problem with the steel extension wings that came with this saw. When installed properly are they perfectly level to the main table? Yes. Are they perfectly flat? No, but acceptible for what they are. I wanted a good saw that could be upgraded and these are good enough for temporary use. In fact there are a host of great accessories/upgrades available for this saw. I already ordered a cast iron router table wing (made by Bench Dog) and soon I plan to order the DeWalt cast iron wing for the other side of the saw.

When it comes down to it, I am very pleased with this saw. The features all met or exceeded my personal needs. This is important, because I have no doubt I could have gotten a saw that performed nearly as well for a lot less money, but it would have failed to meet one or more of MY criteria. As for the price - I bought mine at a time when the saw was on sale and the mobile base was included (see my separate review of the mobile base). The sale price coupled with Amazon's ongoing deal of 25 dollars off any order over 199 gave me this saw at more than a seventy dollar discount. If your needs are similar to mine, then take a close look at this saw. I highly recommend it!

Power Saws Review Top Quality, well engineered tool.
I recently purchased this Makita 24v Reciprocating saw after selling my dewalt 24v recip saw ( so much vibration it basically fell apart ) & i am absolutely delighted with all aspects of this product.
The counterbalance mechanism really works great, so much so that i was able to trim a peice of architrave around the inside of a window that i'd originally cut a little too long without removing it, just scribed the correct line & it smoothly & accurately cut it so you'd never know i'd made an error!
This accuracy means a lot to me as i install windows, doors etc for a living & need not only raw power to rip out old frames ( all the other recip saws i owned in the past can demolish things well enough! ) but being able to make precise controlled cuts saves a lot of time making good damage caused by rough saws.

My 24v saw came with 2 Nickel Metal Hydride batteries - a fairly standard capacity 2.0 ah & a massive 3.3 ah one. battery life seems excellent for the work i do. I know that the latest word in batteries is Lithium Ion, but i really can't fault the quality & performance of the NIMH Makita. The charger technology is streets ahead of my previos NiCad setup.

The Makita saw is fairly heavy compared to it's rivals but, rather than being a pain, i find this saw to be very comfortable to use & fits the hands perfectly for me.

The tool itself broadcasts a a feeling of toughness & durability, the switches are silky smooth & positive, the rubber boot & handgrip are superb & the tool free blade change is outstanding in it's design & function.
The cutting shoe is nice & wobble free ( the opposite of Dewalt's sloppy version - try & cut a good straight line with their 24v saw)& easily adjustable, in fact when i first got the saw i had to lubricate the pivot on the shoe with silicone spray to ease it - it was manufactured to such a tight tolerance!

I'm also impressed with the 32mm stroke length - this uses more of the blade & makes cutting smooth & efficient. 2 speeds (2700spm fast & 2300 slow increase it's versatility yet further)

Overall i'm really impressed with this tool, it has great build quality, is excellently engineered & powerful & smooth to use.

This is not a biased review by a long term Makita fan, I've always had dewalt previously but am now put off by the lower build quality i experienced.

This cordless saw is my first ever Makita powertool & would highly recommend it to anyone!

Power Saws Review A must for loosening blade tension
Your supposed to loosen the tension on your bandsaw blades when you're done using the machine for the day. Keeps the spring and tires from deforming etc.

The small hand knob that most 14" saws use is a total joke. If you don't use the saw much you'll curse less but it gets very tiring cranking with that little wheel.

You have a few commercial options. Get a saw with a Carter style if not a Carter made (in the case of Powermatic) quick blade release.

The new Jet, for $50 more than the base 14" saw comes with a quick release. Great deal if you're looking at Jet. The Powermatic as well as the higher-end Delta also use the quick blade release.

For $150 you can buy a Carter quick-release.

For $32 you can get this simple crank if you already have a saw with the silly wheel.
It is very, very simple to install. Just unsrcew the old one and screw this one back in it's place.

I don't use the saw enough where I feel the need to spend $150 for a quick release. This is a very good compromise. It's much more pleasant tensioning and detensioning my blades.

For what comes in the package $32 seems a bit much, maybe $25 would feel more reasonable but then it's not $150 and I bought it once.

I'm completely satisfied with his product. I think bandsaws at minimum should have this. I can't see where it would not be a cost effective addition. It simply makes the saw feel more complete.

Power Saws Review a lot cheaper than a table saw ... and just as good
I am a very novice wood worker. I have some beginner books about "2x4 furniture" I have a circular saw, but, as you know, unless you are very experienced, executing cross cuts on lumber is not just a matter of chopping -- you have to measure, and add for the blade offset -- every time!. It was tedious, and i was close to getting a table saw or a miter saw. Fortunately, I came across this clever too -- simply line up the guide on the line where you want to cut, push the saw, and you are done.

      Thumb's up!
