Power Saws Review Don't bother
This has got to be the worst power tool I've ever purchased. Ergonomics are poor, including the placement of the switch where only the little finger can be used to operate it. My saw came with no documentation or free replacement blade. The warning that this saw vibrates is a gross understatement. Chances are that you will let the blade chatter up and down your trim or jamb before you ever get a clean cut started. I went back to my manuel 10" Stanley reversing backsaw. It takes a little longer, but produces much better/smoother results with much more control. I guess that sums up the Mortensen saw as it is totally OUT of control.

Power Saws Review I Do Not Understand
I do not understand why this product is on the market. This is the worst feeling tool I have ever held in my hands. I would not recommend this tool to anyone for any purpose. The vibration was to much to deal with. It is also a very awkward tool to hold and is a little dangerous to use. I would give it a minus rating if the computer would let me. I would rather do it with a dull handsaw as to use this product ever again. The blade in this product is good and works well in the hand held handle.

Power Saws Review Gotta be a better way
This saw really vibrates. Figured it would as it's a reciprocating saw but even when properly supported it hurts to use it for long. Several other issues are 1. The saw trigger (as you can see from the picture is on the blade side of the handle. This is probably good for working above your head but when doing flooring cut outs you have to use the trigger with your little or ring finger..not good. 2. For some reason the cord (which is very stiff) runs off the top of the handle (again from a floor perspective) this creates very bad dynamics as the cord is always trying to creep around the front of the saw where it could contact the blade which is definetley not good. Seems like a rear handle design for the cord would have made this a much freindlier saw. All said it makes a tough job easier.

Power Saws Review Absolute GARBAGE!
I bought this very saw less than 2 years ago, and it has turned out to be a nightmare. Don't buy ANYTHING that says Wilton on it, or from WMH tool group! Lowe's carried their tools for about a millisecond. I got suckered and bought what seemed to be a pretty nice mitre/chop saw for around $100. Apparently there is a very good reason Lowe's dropped this brand almost immediately. I called Lowes and they told me they had a lot of returns, and that it just didn't sell well to begin with. Now we know why.

It has turned out to be complete garbage.

I have used it VERY LITTLE, possibly for 3 or 4 projects. The saw is still in excellent physical condition, and should still work great. Here's what happened yesterday. I pulled it out of storage to use to chop down some HALF INCH by 6 inch pallet boards, that had already been stripped of all nails, and I was cutting away from the nail holes to begin with. It was working just fine and everything was uneventful. Then it started making a sort of grinding bearing noise. I made another cut or two and noticed sparks flew from the motor on the second cut. I tried 1 more cuts, and the motor CAUGHT FIRE. I obviously stopped using it and watched. With it off, there was still a small flame burning in the motor near where the magnetic coils are, and it wasn't about to go out. If I hadn't had blown it out I probably would have had a plastic fire and then a bigger fire on my hands.

What I have now is basically a $100 piece of crap, that didn't even get maybe an hour of use over the year or so I've had it. Wilton tells me that their tools NOW have a 2 year warranty, but that since my unit is blue, it's obviously an older unit and until this year they only had a 1 year warranty.

So, if you want a decent tool and you're not going to use it very much, and want it to last, AVOID Wilton like the plague!

Junk, junk, junk.

Power Saws Review A Good Buy
The person from Boston freaked out about a missing dust bag and wants to return the saw. All he had to do is call WMHTool Group at their 1-800 number to get one. Geesh

I disagree with the first reviewer. Read what I have to say about this saw.

The quality of the Wilton model 99164 saw is good and I am impressed. The company is reputable and has been around for 50 years. Go to their website. (...) Being a finish carpenter and furniture maker, the saw is precise as you can get. I rely on making precise miter cuts at various angles from all types of hardwoods. The preset common angles are repeatable every time. Just loosen the miter handle, depress the thumb latch and select the angle. I can cut a 90 degree, switch to a 22 1/2 and come back to a 90 degree with confidence. I check my cuts with machinist squares for accuracy.

This saw is very well constructed from nicely finished solid cast aluminum. The main arm bearing has no play or backlash whatsoever. This is very important. The 15 amp motor is plenty good. When I bought mine, I did not know it had an electric brake. That feature is a plus. My only complaint is that the handle is verticle. My overall rating is a 4 because of this reason.

Power Saws Review If it's broke, don't buy it.....
I have this kit and have, like the other reviewers, been through multiple batteries. I also had my drill replaced while under warranty...it is probably on sale here! I would NOT buy Porter Cable cordless again, everytime I buy a new battery I feel like a junkie back for another fix. While it is good stuff when it works, that is just not a regular occasion.

Power Saws Review not for the casual user
I have had a PC combination 19.2 V set for five years. It has given me excellent service, doing everything from screwing in wallboard and studs to driving a garden auger through hardened clay in my garden. It is not a set for the average homeowner. It is heavy, overly powerful and too expensive. The only negative with the set is the expensive battery. I have replaced 2 at $90 each. The portable circular saw is excellent for use in areas where electricity is not available. I used it to refurbish a barn that had no electric service. The drill stands upright on the battery - a very convenient feature. The flashlight is powerful and long lasting. The set is well designed with comfortable hand grips and space for two spare bits on the drill body.

Another user recommended an Hitachi. I have the model that he recommended. It is a good medium service drill. However, the PC is much more powerful. For the average homeowner a much less expensive 12V cordless would be sufficient. Use it. When it dies, throw it out and get a new one. I don't buy factory-reconditioned tools. Although they are less expensive, I find that I get better value with a new lesser model.

Power Saws Review Professional Use
Excellant power and reliability, it is a heavy drill. Most consumers do not need this much power, they will be better off purchasing a 12 or 14 volt. I have had my combo kit for a year and no problems at all. Great product!

Power Saws Review hard to trust for a square cut
Have not even bothered to use it, just returning. It is supposed to "lock" into place to give you a 90o cut guide, but the alignment holes are off for the dimples that are suppose to fit in the holes, so it never "locks" into place. The only way I would trust that is was square would be to use a right angle to check for square. Mine was hard to set at 90o using just my hands (does not rotate smoothly). However, when using it, it would be easy for the saw to push it slightly out of alignment because there is no way to lock it at a set angle.

Elimination of the 90o alignment holes/dimples and the addition of some kind of real lock that was accurate would be good.

Power Saws Review Lack of Information in Catalog
I received the Cheeter PN 10101 thinking it would work with my Porter Cable Extra Heavy Duty framing saw, only to discover that the guide works only for blade-on-right saws, and mine is a blade-on-left. The only way to do 90-degree cuts is by clamping the guide on the other side of the board, and the cut is made so that the guide is being pushed out of alignment. The catalog should state that the guide is for blade-on-right saws only! If there is a blade-on-left version available, please let me know.

Power Saws Review It's a joke!
I saw the Versa saw on TV a few weeks ago and thought it would be a perfect addition to my 18VOLT XRT DeWalt cordless drill for small jobs around the house. What a disappointment!

First, the picture displayed on the Amazon website shows a screw as part of the blade lock. - Mine came with just a clipping mechanism (no screw). It took me half an hour to connect the blade to "EASY MOUNT blade housing". In the saw manual it says: "it will be a tight fit" - it was TIGHT, they are not kidding! Awful, terrible design!

Second, when I finally got my blade installed I tried to cut a piece of a cheap round floor trim ... and I couldn't! Even at the highest rpm's the blade did not move fast enough! The manual suggests that you put the cutting guide foot firmly against the object that you're cutting - I did, it made no difference! The picture in their manual shows an object that looks like a 2X4 - Good luck, there is no way this blade could cut it. TOYSRUS may be able to sell this to children.

I decided to return the product. Get this - I couldn't remove blade from "EASY MOUNT housing"! I didn't want to break the thing and sent it back with blade mounted!

To top it all off, Amazon charged me a restocking and UPS label printing fee - wonderful!

Don't repeat my mistake - go and buy a cheap reciprocating saw, something that will work!

Power Saws Review Changing blades is near impossible
While the concept seemed great, after several failed attempts by myself, my husband and son, we were unable to get the blade properly installed in the unit. Once we did get it "almost" in and it was a struggle to get it back out. We're returning the unit.

Power Saws Review A piece of junk!
I received this supposedly factory reconditioned scroll saw today and set about putting it together. First, not all the parts were there. Second, the tilt table gauge was bent nearly 60 degrees out of whack. The variable speed knob just spins around and around and has no effect on the speed of the unit.

This thing belongs in the trash can. If I don't get some satisfaction from Delta and The Tool Crib, it's sayonara to both of them.

This saw is junk when it's brand new. Buyer beware!

Power Saws Review Reconditioned Delta Scroll saw
The product is less than I had expected; basically a poorly engineered blade fastening system..Breaks blades with great frequency and discouraging to operate.

Instructions for the model make references and photos of component parts not part of the saw. Name tag felloff, taped it to hold in place.

Since purchase have observed new scroll saws for the same pricing.

Power Saws Review A dud when i bought it.BUT is is great scroll saw now
Ok where do I start. well i got my Delta SS250 on August 22nd of 2005 I couldn't wait to get it put together to start sawing. But the saw had other ideas. first there were parts missing . I needed a clamp assemble. and two hex socc set screws to put this clamp assemble on the saw. So I had to call Delta 1-800 number and talk to a lady to tell her what parts were missing when i got the saw. so she take down the parts and this was on August 22nd. Monday afternoon and So when the parts came I sit down to put the saw together again. the Clamp assemble went together fine. so I thought I would put table on the machine. Wrong the table and the scale would not fit or line up with the holes in the machine. they were the wrong ones for this model of scroll saw. So again i had to call Delta's 1-800 number and i had to tell the lady on the phone what had happen and what parts where the wrong ones for this saw. she took down the infomation and said you will have the parts By Thursday of this week. Come Thursday the parts were delivered. So that night husband sit down to put the table and the scale on the saw . But again a problem the screws that were for the scale to be mounted to the machine would not fit this new table and scale they were to small around. So on friday we just bought screws at a hard ware store in a near by town. So on Sept 4th We decides to try and put the saw table and scale on saw this time every thing fit right.Husband put new saw blade in saw and I cut 6 different things out of 1/4 in plywood that afternoon. the saw is great now.it runs smooth is very Quiet and doesn't have any viberation at all. it is very heavy So i bought a stand to mount it on. I will say for all the problems I had with this saw, Delta tech support is great they were very nice and understanding to me on the phone and i didn't have to pay anything for the replaceable parts that i needed. I love My delta SS250 scroll saw.

Power Saws Review a shoeless wonder
The black shoe falls off regularly (which knocks the transparent covers off, as well). Received a replacement, but don't know if it's going to work. Grat for sawing curves with bevels...just can't saw straight at 90 degrees. Blades bend from lateral movement while sawing. Not a good 'un. Go with Bosch or Porter Cable. Got sharp teeth? Buy a coping saw. Or a knife. Wish I had....

Power Saws Review I should have bought the Bosch
I am on my second saw in 6 months with little use

Good points:

Lots of power
Accepted universial and T shank blades

Bad points:
Sole plate sticks and is hard to accurately adjust.
Both saws pulled to the left when cutting.
Could not cut a straight line using a guide fence, blade would pop out of guide roller or pull the wood lose from a clamped down guide fence resulting in a bowed cut. The cut was also off perpenducilar. Got two different stories from Dewalt on this. One person said it should saw with a guide fence(straightedge) another person said it wouldn't and I needed to buy a different tool.

Power Saws Review Need to improve Keyless blade
I purchased this item and the only problem that I have found is the keyless blade system. The operator manual doesn't mention that you must have the blade attachment at the right position before the keyless blade will function. To set the blade attachments to the right position you will have to operate the jig saw and try to stop the reciprocating blade shaft attachment to the exact position. This will require few trys and lots of patience.

Power Saws Review Don't buy it ! II
I wish I had read Dana's review before buying this. I can live with the oil problem, but the chain comes off its drive sprocket after just a minute of sawing braches that have any vibration. To get it back is a production. The tension screw is used to get the "adjustment block" into the "adjusting hole." Well, you can't see either one, and indeed oil is leaking on you as you work on this. Five minutes later, you are ready for your next cut...

Power Saws Review DON'T BUY IT!
I gave it one star only becaues no stars isn't an option. It's a total piece of crap: poorly designed, poorly made. It leaked oil all over. I had to drain the oil reservior after each use. Keeping the chain tight was impossible. After cutting for about 1 minute, the chain would be so loose I had to stop and fiddle with the thing for 5 minutes. Remington took a chain saw chain and bar, stuck them on some pieces of plastic with an electric motor and called it a chainsaw. I don't usually return items, but I'll make an exception for this POS because it simply doesn't function. [...]

Power Saws Review You get what you pay for
I wasn't expecting much at $39.99 - 10%. However, the bang for the buck is great if you can't afford a better saw. I've only used it for trimming and some bucking thus far, and the saw performs as advertised. The chain does tend to slip off, so it's important to keep inspecting and adjusting the tension. The design can be improved, as the retaining knob for the bar is undersized and this leads to chain slippage. Overall, a bargain relative to gas-powered prices, and safe to use.

Power Saws Review Not reconditioned, just broken
I purchased this set and found it to be returns that were not fixed. I have purchaced reconditioned porter cable tools before with no problems. Each component of this Dewalt set had a problem. The drill had a slipping clutch, one battery had a loose clip that would not stay in the tool, the saw clearly had a problem in the gears from the sound.

Selling this item as "reconditioned" is false advertising.

Power Saws Review Ships with weak batteries.
Good set but I have had problems with the batteries that are shipping with these sets. The last 4 DeWalt reconditioned cordless tool sets I have purchased were shipped with batteries dated 2001 and most of those batteries have poor run time and low power. Compared to brand new batteries the difference is noticable. The 1-year warranty will get you a new battery if you find a service center that will replace them without a hassle. My service center does replace them, but they complain about it and I every time I take one in I am afraid they will refuse. For the price difference ($70) I recommend the new set which should come with batteries made in 2003.

Power Saws Review dead battery
You would think they would at least put a new battery in a reconditioned tool. The saw seems to work fine but the battery lasts about 2 minutes. Any savings I received from buying a used tool will be gone with the purchase of a new battery. beware.

Power Saws Review Eats batteries
This is is nice quality saw that works well, but has one drawback. It eats batteries very quickly. And when the battery even starts to get low it completely looses all torque power. The only way to work with this saw is to have at least 3 batteries available and charged before starting work. But it will cut like a workhorse as long as you feed it batteries.
