Old-Time Quality, a Top Performer
Worth the moneyWell, they may work "OK", but this one is in a league all its own. Why? Mostly because of the weight of the thing. The machining is fine, the features, the size of wood it can handle, micro-adjustment and so forth are great. So is the large bearing surface and the oversized tightening handle (read: powerful clamping strength). But the one thing that makes this one the best is the weight. It stands up to whatever vibration, pinching, grabbing, and whatnot that might occur when shoving a piece of wood through a saw blade. There's no worry, ever, about kickback or losing control, and the smoothness of the cut is pretty nearly perfect thanks to the rock-solid support of the jig.
To illustrate: I regularly cut tenons and half-lap joints on the ends of up to 8 foot pieces of wood, sometimes at a 45 degree angle. That means the jig holds an 8 foot board sticking up at 45 degrees, and guides it safely and smoothly across the saw. Try THAT on your $119.99 nearly-as-good jig. Or don't- you'll damage yourself if you try.

12 Stars if you buy the right oneI just received the Delta Deluxe Miter Gauge #34-928. You wouldn't believe me if I told you how long ago I ordered it. I guess a fresh batch is in so order it quick. Now on to the item. When they say that it is accurate, the first thing I did, when I took it out of the box, was break out the Bosch Digital Protractor. It measures angles with a digital readout in tenths of a degree. (Equal to 3600 dots in a circle, no matter how small the circle) I put the miter gauge to the test. I clamped an aluminum level onto the face to extend the surface, and guess what? I got perfect readings after trying the detent stops, and even got the same results when I eyeballed a setting just using the pointer. It wasn't even off by a tenth of a degree.
At first I was confused, because some of the stops weren't right on the number, then I realized that they have stops at the popular detents, and some of those are in tenths of a degree.
Point number two is that I was impressed that the miter gauge bar that rides in your miter slot has little Allen bolts imbedded in it, so you can adjust it perfectly, to eliminate any play. When I put it in my Powermatic 66, it fit so perfectly, without any play, that I don't even need to fiddle with it. It is so snug that you would have to measure the play in thousandths of an inch, as in non-existent, yet it slides along the track like it was on greased wheels. It fit my Bench Dog miter track on their Router table extension for table saws the same way. The Might T track miter track guides had a little slop in it, but that is obviously the track and not the gauge. I guess you can tell where I will be using it. (Although the play is adjustable for any 3/4 x 3/8 track)
Point three is that the bottom of the gauge is polished so smooth that it will not scratch your saw tabletop. The front face of the gauge where you rest your work, looks like it was fine ground-polished with something like a 1000 grit wheel. You can see ultra-ultra fine lines going in a circle from where it was fine machined.
I strongly recommend that you also get Delta's clamp attachment that works with this gauge. The one that I bought is the 34-568 clamp assy, and it fits and works perfectly. Delta and Amazon feature the Delta cheapy miter gauge with the clamp as a combo package for about the same money as buying this Deluxe gauge and the 34-568 clamp assy as separate pieces. So for about the same money you are getting Delta's best, and in this example it is worthy of that title.
The gauge and clamp combo perfectly resolves the problem of when you are trying to cope the ends of your rails in a raised panel bit set. You know the problem, you have to hold that two-inch wide board and run the bit over the tip. Trying to get the bit to not move the board, by either pushing it a little away from the fence, or run into the second fence face causing a stop is a major accomplishment. Many use sleds with clamps on them, but then you are raising the work piece off of the table to make up for the sled base plate. With a router, that is a major consideration, because that oftentimes leads to having to raise the bit higher up out of the collar, causing more vibration and potentially a dangerous bit flying condition. This gauge and clamp combo locks it in just the same, but keeps the work piece flat against the tabletop. The other advantage to that is if you are running some larger pieces at the same time, you can do it by removing the gauge, and not have to change a bit setting. Wow! I'm getting off on this, I don't know about you. :-)
Another point is that the picture doesn't do it any justice. The fit, the finish, the accuracy of the deluxe gauge is better than any other miter gauge I have seen, even the one that came with the Powermatic saw. I can't recommend this high enough. Is it because it is a waxed Ferrari sitting in the garage? No, it is because it is as accurate and fine as a miter gauge can get. Buy one, you won't be sorry. Hope this helps.

Just about a perfect packageI could not be happier with the result. The basic DW746 saw plus the sliding table and super trick miter gage and cast iron extension wing make a package nobody else can touch for price and features. This saw is quiet, vibration free and as powerful as you can get from a 110 volt motor. I don't have a machinist's
ruler to gage table flatness, but I do have a Lie Neilsen #7 jointer plane that is dead nuts flat, and setting the plane tilted on edge on the table shows the table flat in all directions within .005".
Be advised this saw does not fall into my defininition of portable. It's one heavy puppy. It took two of us to wrestle the basic saw down to the basement. I was able to get the cast iron extension on by myself, but I could not even pick up the sliding table by myself, much less install it on the table.
Also, this package comes with instructions for putting the basic saw together, and separate instructions for putting on the sliding table. DO NOT start with the instructions for putting the basic saw together like I did. After I spent three hours getting the front and rear rails on and level, I had to completely disassemble EVERYTHING because the sliding table has a bunch of parts that must go on first. If you begin assembly following the instructions for installing the sliding table, you will get it right the first time.

best dedicated gauge for simple cutsIt's heavy and well machined like its more expensive brother.
I have it setup with an aluminum fence solely to make simple cross cuts that for whatever reason, I'm not or can't do on my miter saw.
So if you don't need a miter gauge to cut multiple angles this represents the best value for it's category. Or as a dedicated gauge to supplement a miter sled, or more expensive gauge that's been preset for specific angles and you don't want to go back and forth reseting.

Incra 2000/27 Miter GaugeI spent a very careful hour setting up the Miter Gauge. When set up was complete (followed directions explictly) I tested the product. I took 8 pieces of stock 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 12" and proceeded to cut 22 1/2 degree angles on both ends. Laid all eight pieces on the work bench and dry fitted a perfect hexagon. You can't get a human hair in the joints. This is an expensive tool but for the first time ever I can cut extremely accurate angles. This tool should dramatically enhance my abilities.
I am not thrilled about the "stock stop" feature but that is a secondary need for me.
Poor set-up, good operationIf you buy, prepare as follows:
1. Get about 10 machinist shims in increments of .001 or .002. These will be needed to adjust to square with your table. This beats measuring slips of paper with a micrometer and figuring out how many to slide into place. Mine took .005 to square. Their "Tip" between steps 1 and 2.
2. Do calibration step 1before step 2 in assembly to avoid double handling. Remove the allen screws and rub with some wax or dry lubricant. The screw heads build-up so much friction against the plastic expansion washers that you can almost break your 7/64 allen wrench.
3. When setting up for the right side --IGNORE their drawing and instructions. They show a through slot connecting the fence to the mounting bracket. It is not slotted which means that when you remove the fence; you can't get in back in with loose washers supplied. I ended up making a ball of wax paper to put behind their slotted washer to be able to reinstall the cap screws -- this will make sense when you see the unit.
Remember that you will have to do the same table squaring step for the right side as you did on the left.
It's incredible that they supply a part that's completely different than their drawing.
4. The Shop Stop is generally well designed part, but the manual provided is useless for initial set-up. The rack system is very accurate and the positioning works well after you set the rule to your machine.
In operation, the unit is excellent. Changing from 90 to 45 takes 5 seconds and is totally accurate.
Too bad they don't have someone in engineering actually assemble the unit from their drawings and instructions before sending out to customers.
Incra 2000/27 Miter Gauge Update 31 Mar 05: Now that I've been using the Incra 2000 for a few months, I find zero defects, zero detractors for this miter gauge. In fact, I finally can make 45 deg angles that are more accurate than the wood movement that occurs in any project. You cannot get any better than that!

looks like import that has been worked over for better or ?
Outstanding Value
Almost perfect...One area that was lacking (at least for me since this is my first non-portable table saw) was the instructions on assembly of the rails and fence guide. They could have used better diagrams and part descriptions.
Overall an excellent saw for the money. I will probably trade out the accessory wood table for a router table.

OverratedReviews here imply this is a "must have" for precision work. Fastening a milled board to a conventional gauge (preferably with an adjustable rod, to eliminate lateral play) and clamping on a stop on occasion has a lot going for it.
Miter gauge does what it says!
Great Mitre Gage
And don't think you can just turn it side ways and slide it through. With the stand and blade guard installed (both require tools to remove), the profile is more than 29". You can wiggle it through but I doubt the plastic blade guard will survive too many attempts. The whole assembly is also very heavy and awkward when trying this.
Don't underestimate how important this is. Only my front door is greater than 30 inches. Every other door is 30".
