unhappy customerI bought the 10 inch table saw 18 months ago and have used it very little on jobs around the house -- I ripped 6 2X4 and the motor burnt out -- I feel that the motor is not of very good quality!!!!
Very nice portable sawThis has to be the best worksite saw I have ever used. It has sufficient power for just about any stock. The table extensions are very useful and the fence aligns itself square to the blade when locked. I purchased this saw after a long time pro recommended it to me and I haven't had a regret.
smoothest most accurate portableThis is the smoothest most accurate portable table saw I have ever used.
Its powerful, well built and very well thought out.
The fence is of excellent design with a positive square lock every time.
Blade changes are almost too easy and controls are simple and durable.
The only improvement I would make would be to add a blade height adjustment lock which it lacks, otherwise a flawless design by Bosch.
The fold up stand is sturdy and well designed,it snap locks up and folds down very effortlessly, folds almost flat and takes up less space then the gravity stand with the wheels.

Great SawI am a handy man by trade. So I am not really into a lot of finish work but this is a great dual purpose saw. Its not too heavy being over the age of 65 weight is a definite consideration. Easy to use and the laser is great. I am getting used to pushing the saw blade in versus pulling it out toward me as on my old Dewalt. I like the slide feature as well. I found the reviews to be a big help. Enjoy the saw. Price was excellent as a fifty dollar discount was available at the time. Worth every penny.
Rebate Rip OffThe saw is excellent but don't fall for the rebate tool offer from hitachi, whatever it is (I was to receive finish nailer)or drill they just won't send it without repeated correspondence.
Hitachi C10FSH 10" Dual Bevel Slide Compound with LaserI purchased this saw through Amazon after about a week of comparison shopping and reading the reviews on this site. I just want to thank everyone that took the time to express their thoughts on this product. I am a general contractor, I do residential remodeling and finish work on new construction. I have used this saw on the job for three days, so far and I am very impressed. I would recommend this saw to anyone that is in the market to buy a saw with these features.

junk motorsthe motor is junk. less than three years with light use, two run capacitors it funally quit working. no other motor fits. Ok I will buy one from jet what other choice do I have. The next problem is a new motor is 6 weeks on back order. Must be going through a lot of them. I cant wait to much business will be lost. so i took the leeson motor off my planer made an adapter plate at the local welding shop and reamed the pulley to fit the leeson motor. LASTJET TOOL I OR ANY ONE I KNOW WILL EVER BUY
Great Saw / Poor MotorI bought my saw in March 2003. It has not had heavy usage. I think the overall quality of the saw is good (flat table, fence in line out of the crate, vibration practically non-existant, large handwheels, good fit and finish and good power).
The motor is the exception to the quality. It is cheaply made and failed in the middle of a project. I replaced the start capacitor (it had overheated and was leaking oil) and upon startup, the motor lost rpm, stopped and completely blew out the replacement start capacitor. The motor is out of warranty and I found out the windings were charred and shorted out. Needs a new motor. Found out that there were no gaskets on the motor end caps or anywhere else that I could find allowing sawdust to penetrate the motor (so much for TEFC). This can lead to premature failure but I don't know if that was the direct cause of my motors failure. I didn't expect it to last forever but 2 1/2 years of light use shouldn't cause failure. I have other machines that are 30 to 40 years old that have had much more extensive use and the motors are still good.
I will not be buying my replacement motor from Jet!
One other mild complaint... the dust collection box could be better designed to channel the sawdust down to the collection port. It just stacks up inside the cabinet and needs perodic cleaning. A minor inconvenience.
Would give it five stars if not for the poor motor quality.

It's a dreamI replaced a 15 year old Craftsman contractors saw that I had tweaked and adjusted until I thought it was as good as it could be. I had replaced the belt with a link belt, the pulleys with a set a friend had machined, and added the trunnion adjuster from In-Line Industries. I was satisfied with the results until...
The delivery of my new Jet was prompt and courteous. The trucking company scheduled delivery for 1:oo pm, and I was called by the driver 3 times before the delivery to update me on the schedule. There was no charge for a lift gate, he backed the truck up my drive, put the box on a palette jack a placed in the garage exactly where I wanted it.
Unpacking was uneventful. My son and I slid the saw off of the plate and onto the Jet mobile base. From that point, it took about an hour and a half to finish the assembly. Everything lined up and the fit and finish was perfect. Included inside the base was a spec sheet showing run out, blade alignment to miter slot, RPM and max height. All of these were far better than the accepted range.
I then thru on a Freud combo blade and did so test cuts. Like the preverbal hot knife thru butter. Didn't have a nickle in my pocket to test vibration, so I used a dime instead. Balanced it, and then cut a piece of 4/4 oak without knocking it over.
I have since been building shop cabinets with 3/4 melamine. The 50 inch fence is great for those large, heavy sheets.
This is the third Jet tool I have purchased. Additionally I have the 6 inch jointer and a 16 inch band saw. While these machines are not Powermatic and Laguna, they still have the best quality for the dollar available today.

Clever saw with few hitchesI am a rookie table saw owner, but I know well made and clever design when I see it. I will limit my review to the price, design and set-up. I am a guy that likes tinkering with set up of my tools after purchase. I don't mind a couple of hours making sure it is perfect for my use. And I don't expect that $5/hr mass assembly and 3000 miles of shipping SHOULD result in a perfectly set up saw right out of the box!
I spent much time researching and reading Amazon reviews before purchase -and I very much appreciate everyone's effort. So I shall add my 2cents to the knowlege base.
Much of my decision was space considerations. The stand is worth every nickel. It stores nicely, has great stablitiy and works like a charm. The sliding table is phenomenal. Just plain cool. I didn't find cheap on this saw anywhere. I usually expect to find where someone cut corners on production costs - its the way of the world, man. But everything is well thought out and made. Kudos to Bosch - Their only table saw product has really impressed me.
Couple of minor glitches; I bought the rear outfeed and left-side supports. Good decision. It really works nicely and as far as I can tell, Bosch has this going for it over the Dewalt. But the side support, when stored, conflicts with the release lever for the sliding table. You have a choice. Leave the left side extended a couple inches or release the top extension. Not a deal breaker, but annoying.
My blade guard was bent out of the box and I needed to bend it straight to align with the blade. I also needed significant adjustment to align the kerf on the spreader. Again, not a big deal.
The rest of the factory set-up was very good. I might have a bit of fine tuning, but certainly acceptable for out of the box accuracy.
For the money, the cleverness of the design makes the Bosch a winner. I expect that I'll find the operation of the saw to be up to my anal-retentive expectations. Best regards

DIY or ContractorI didn't buy the 4000-09 from Amazon, but only because they didn't have the free shipping. This saw is absolutely awesome. Here's why.
- I'm a DIY weekend warrior, rehabbing my first house. I've used Powermatic, Jet, and Delta professional saws. One of my biggest fears when buying tools is acquiring a less than professional tool. I want my tools to last for 50 years, I'm 26.
1. The 4000-09's direct drive system allows for lightning quick dead accurate mitre adjustments.
2. The motor's control system can handle anything you can throw at it. It performs just as well as any of the Deltas and Jets I've used, and it's portable.
3. The gravity-rise stand works perfectly, additionally it adds an infinite amount of grab handles for loading, unloading, dolly-ing, storing, etc., basically taking an awkward to manage device into a one-man movement task.
4. The fence is absolutely brilliant, and I would recommend this saw for anyone who is considering a "shop-saw" simply because, why limit yourself?

I Have Upgraded My "10" to a 10CW2!!First of all, I must tell you that I am very glad to finally have a table saw. I have been shopping for over two years and was not really sure I wanted the Jet until the Christmas tool sale at Lowe's. Had it not been for that I can't say that I would have committed to this saw had it still been at full price.
Actually, the Jet was my first pick but I had since developed some doubts about them. The bargain price lured me in (much better than here,) but if you're like me you want to know what I like and dislike about it.
First the bad, in order of personal annoyance:
1. As I had stated, I have upgraded with the cast wings from Jet (Big $$$$) but in the end it was worth it. 'Nough said.
2. The fence and miter gauge. They are both just OK, but to get real accuracy you will need to spend at least another $400-$500 to replace both... the cheapest (...) Or for a total of $950-1000.00+/- (saw included) for good controllable, stable set ups. (edit: Though I had come to terms with it after much playing around, but found a newer Micro-Adjust fence on eBay. An improvement to be sure. I'd still replace the miter gauge, (Delta seems to make a nice one that doesn't cost too much) but it is usable as long as you check it carefully after EVERY adjustment. Don't rely on the scale or the "flip-stop" (it bends easily) to do it for you. It won't! Trash the "JetFence."
3. The dust collection "hood" stinks! I will replace this too. (Edit: I made my own. See my review of the Jet hood #JW1005 and I'll tell you how.)
4. The safety splitter and anti-kickback paws are nearly useless. They are difficult to install and uninstall when necessary, real knuckle busters. OK, we all know that most people who actually USE their table saws remove these items most of the time, but I would use them more often (I'm a safety guy. I like my fingers right where they are) if it weren't for the time and effort it takes to uninstall them when I need a dado blade, or am running 4" tall material through the blade. You can replace these with aftermarket quick release/quick setup items for around $430.00. What a bargain. }:-( That's nearly as much as the saw originally cost.
5. The drive belt: Before I made any important cuts with this tool I immediately replaced the drive belt with a PowerTwist Plus A20-60. My cheap Jet now runs smoother than my neighbors' more expensive Delta. (Please see my review of this product for complete details.) It's WELL worth the $30.00 investment.
6. Mostly the manual was enough for setup. As others here have said, I set mine up in about four hours except a few areas where I found it lacking: It was a little vague in the area of converting the saw/motor to 230 volt operation, like what current (amps) it would draw at 230? Should I install a 20 amp plug, receptacle and breaker, or a 30 amp? (Answer: Install the 20 amp if you convert); Also a few more suggestions about lining up and leveling the side extensions would've been nice, like how to bend them more accurately; and finally, not all of the various hardware bags were clearly marked and I found myself guessing... correctly as it turns out, at what hardware the manual was referring to.
Note: For those who have read other customer reviews here, mine did come with it's own blade. It's a 40T, carbide tipped, and it ain't bad either! It does leave a little to be desired in the cross-cutting department. I do get some tear-out with it, but it's OK. I will replace it with a better one eventually, but it is quite good for a "get acquainted" type blade. (I did! See Freud TK406, F60T. For $35.00 you can't beat it with a Forrest.)
The good:
1. The motor is strong and starts, and pulls evenly to full speed, and can be converted to 230v operation.
2. The arbor assembly is strong and smooth (gear, not belt) operating.
3. The blade (see above comments.)
4. For the most part the saw was easy to setup.
Suggestion: No matter how much room you have or don't have, get a mobile base. Jets' own works well and is easy to set up but is a little clumsy in actual use. The Jet base has four individual wheels (back)/casters (front) to lock and unlock which is not so convenient when you have 30, or 52" fence rails to get around, and it doesn't allow for easy side-to-side movement either. On the other hand, my neighbor recently set up a Ridged Herc-u-lift on his Delta (he said, "$50!".) Four casters that come up all the way when not in use and a one foot pedal operation. I am not a fan of the "Big Orange" but I should have done this.
My recommendation: If you are set on getting the Jet, get this model with the cast iron wings (suffix:"CW2" Usually about $100 more, and it will cost you a LOT more ($250.00+ freight) later to do it as I did) and if the funds allow, the Xacta fence though the new Micro-Adjust fence from Jet is an improvement.
If you are cutting a lot of sheet material plan on building or buying a side table extension and an outfeed table. They're easy to build yourself and make a nice first project. (See Rockler for hardware kits.)
I hope this helps you decide and Good Luck with your own dreams!
Great saw for the moneyI feel that the Jet JWTS-10CW2-JF is a darn good saw for the home woodshop. I upgraded from a bench-top saw to this one, so I can't say I've had years of experience with table saws. However, this saw is smooth, has cut everything I've fed it with no hesitation, and is very accurate.
The saw arrives in two boxes, one for the saw/stand, and one for the jet fence. Unlike the previous reviewer, I wasn't missing any hardware from the fence box. In fact I had everything I needed except for one hex screw which I was lucky enough to have on hand. Assembly wasn't hard at all, it went together easily within a few hours by myself. The blade was aligned to the miter slots out of the box, and it was simple to square the table extensions. The splitter/guard assembly took a bit more adjustment, but wasn't difficult to align.
Cutting wood with this saw is a dream compared to what I had. The cuts are very accurate, and there is little or no binding or burning. I think the older models of this saw came with a blade because other reviewers have mentioned one, but mine didn't. I bought a Freud multi purpose think kerf blade. There have been complaints about the jet fence, which I now appreciate. It's not something that can't be worked around, but it does wander around a bit during lock down. It seems there's a little play between full release and full down. You can work with it if you lock it down partially, tweak where you want it, then lock it down all the way. You shouldn't have to do that, but it works for the money.
Overall I'm very happy with the saw. If there were a negative aspect to it, it'd be the difficulty in quickly removing the blade guard. If you need to cut a dado or kerf, you have to loosen 2 bolts and pull the table insert. Seriously not a big deal, I'm sure most other saws in this class are the same. Unfortunately when you replace it you have to realign it again. Would've been cool if Jet devised some kind of quick release mechanism. Regardless, I would recommend this saw to anyone, I'm very satisfied.

4 stars with Jet Fence - 5 with Xacta IIThis was my first Jet purchase.
Runs very good. I never liked the Jet fence though, it seems a little short and I wish it had more support on the outfeed side.
I ended up buying a xacta fence II which is made by HTC. Was like night and day.
This functions almost like a cabinet saw, at least in my dreams with these additions:
I replaced the v-belt with a link belt which made the saw quite and a bit smoother. I also replaced the manufacturer supplied trunion bolts in the saw with the PALS (Precision Alignment System) which allows you to micro adjust your blade's alignment.

Assembly as all my Jet purchases have been a breeze. Until it's time to align the belt and apply tension to the belt. That is the tricky part with a one-man assembly.

UnacceptableWe sent our son a powermatic saw for Christmas. When it arrived and when assembled the table was way out of tolerance.
So he called Tool Crib and arrangements were made to return the old one and send a new one, which you very nicely did. That one was more out of tolerance than the first. So he called and both saws were picked up at the same time. I have an email which states that you will credit us for the saw. He (son) has made other arrangements for a saw. We do most of our tool business with you and are sorry that this happened, which I am sure you are also. Perhaps you received a bad batch of saws from Powermatic. Vernon Harrington

its allrightI have had this saw for three years now,all in all it is a pretty nice saw but it does have some issues.I am very picky on my machine accuracy and i always have to fiddle with it to get it to be as accurate as i want. When I first got the saw it had a terrible vibration and couldn't figure out what the problem i called customer service and they sent a tech right out to my house of course he found the problem right away it was the one thing that i overlooked, the pulley on the arbor was never tightened down to the shaft upon assembly at the factory in taiwan.all in all i kind of wished i had bought something else but at the time it was the only left tilting saw on the market besides the crapsman.I think if i were on the market right now i would go for the jet supersaw with the fully enclosed stand and sliding table i have had a chance to inspect this machine firsthand and man what a nice piece of equipment.
powermatic left tilt tablesawThis saw is a great saw for the price. It set up well and is a joy to use.

Rock solid - worth every penny After much drooling and hoping, I was finally able to purchase the Promax router table. Only problem is now the drooling has intensified as I can't wait to go use it again!
The 40-031 table is a very well built table that just feels solid and well made. It attached to my new Delta hybrid table saw in 30 minutes or less and is saving me space AND increasing the quality of my routings.
One of the bolts for the fence was machined improperly, but one call to Bench Dog had one in my hand within a week. They definately have quality customer service.
Although it's not cheap, the 40-031 is worth every penny. You will not go wrong with this router table!
Happy Routing!

Love it!!I was concerned that this would be a problem installing on my Jet tablesaw -- no concerns now...it is a perfect fit.
This is a great piece of metal and really enhances the tablesaw.

unisaw router table extensionThe concept of saving space unites with this item! Not only does it help me save space by mounting my router on my unisaw. But it extends my workspace. I gave it 5 stars because of its intent , but the unit i got bows on the top, so i had to grind it to level out with my unisaw. And the phenolic plate from bench dog was predrilled backwards(wierd?) so it would not line up with the holes in the extension. Amazon had me call Benchdog and i am still waiting for the correct top.

Top PerformerI have had this band saw for over three years now and must say it is a top performer in my home shop. Powerful and smooth, Mathew Schenkar has a review on this saw that hits the nail square on the head so I won't go into that much detail, it's a great tool! I have made some upgrades to mine over the years like Carter guides (best thing I've done), Installed the Jet 6" Riser Block and made a spring quick release like the one in Woodsmith Magazine, you'll want this for faster blade changes. This Saw is a work horse, steady and true, I highly recommend this saw.
BandsawArrived in a very timely manner. This item exceeded all expectations from Amazon. Quick, free shipping and easy set up. Got the riser block at the same time to make it a one time set up. Whatever was written before as negatives on these two items seem to have been resolved. I had absolutely no problems setting it up alone. The pulley system was already aligned from the factory. More than enough electrical cord to install the riser block without incident.
Be sure to order the proper blades you may need from Highland Hardware if you are into resawing or need a spare blade. I am very pleased and have recommended this item(s) to friends.

Jet Bandsaw-Terrific!Just spent two hours putting together the Jet 710115K 14" Bandsaw - including mobile base, fence, and Carter blade guides. The manual was very clear and easy to follow. Fit and finish is excellent. Adjustments were very easy and it ran very quiet, with minimal vibration, and it cut wood with ease. I did need to run to the store to get a 10mm wrench in order to change the guides. I'd debated between the Delta and the Jet, but choose the Jet because of it's better reviews, and because it's 1 1/4 horse verses Delta's 1 horse power. I'm very happy with the choice.

Not Price, HorsepowerI was not surprised to see the finish of the saw when I took it out of the box. I set it up in no time but reality of a 350 dollar saw set in when I tried to resaw 3/4 in piece of oak. Changed the blade to a 1/2 in 3tpi but still no power. If it were a Mustang I would install a supercharger. "All show, no go". Pay the extra money and get one more powerful.
Jet JWBS-12OS 12" Open Stand Band SawUnit came well packaged. (Styrofoam, plastic bags, etc.) Assembly was easy due to excellent manual. Fit and finish is excellent. For a 12" the saw is extremely well built, heavy duty and eye appealing. The mirror-like cast iron table looks as good now as it did two years ago. The saw runs very quiet and performs well. If you're looking for a quality 12" band saw, this is the one to buy.
Don't Hesitate on this one! This is a very nice saw in this price range. I have owned mine now for about a year and am very happy with the stability and smoothness of the unit. I would recommend getting rid of the stock blade and picking up some "Timberwolf" brand blades. These blades make all of the difference. Also, the addition of the cool blocks as others have mentioned is another plus. Overall, this saw runs problem free, is smooth and vibration free.

No more table saw envyAfter 7 years of use, it was finally time to upgrade my Skil portable saw. I did a lot of research into different models, including the Jet, Delta, and Powermatic. Finally I went to a woodworking show and talked to the man who literally "wrote the book" on table saws, and he recommended the DeWalt DW746. It was a little more than I wanted to spend on a saw, but he said it should be the last saw I ever buy. I ordered it and the 30" rails from Amazon, and ordered the mobile base from Tyler (Amazon had a long back order and Tyler was cheaper).
The suggestion made by someone else here to assemble the base first, then attach it to the feet while the saw was still upside down in the crate was on the money. Can't imagine trying to attach it afterwards.
* Pros:
Assembly took a few hours, and was very straightforward.
The table was very flat, and everything but the splitter was well aligned.
I had to resaw some 5/4 x 5 Poplar, and the saw never bogged down at all. Plus it made surprisingly smooth and well aligned cuts for having to flip the wood over to make 2 passes.
Dust collection works surprisingly well. I had to rig up a 2-1/2 to 4" adapter, but it removes 90% of the dust. A little dust still blows off the blade.
Very smooth running, no vibration. The internal motor and wide belt lend a lot to that.
Takes up a lot less space than most other saws, since the motor is inside the frame.
The 30" rails were flat and true.
* Cons:
Removing the guard is a pain, and it's a little hard to get at one of the nuts.
The blade that comes with it is lousy. Replaced it with a Freud and it's like night and day.
Needs a 20A line, as it occasionally trips a 15A breaker on startup. I'm going to switch it to 240v soon. Should be smoother.
The miter guage does not have any holes in it for mounting accessories and jigs. I took care of that.
The assembly instructions (as others have mentioned) could stand some improvement. The photos were not matched up with the text, and in some places the text started next to the picture then wrapped under it, making it very hard to follow. This should be a simple fix for DeWalt.
* Overall:
I'm hoping the author was correct that it will be my last saw. So far I have been very impressed with it.

Shop teacher- Great saw!I've taught high school woodshop for 13 yrs and have used contractor saws in my home shop and 2 Unisaws in the school shop. Needing to upgrade the saw at home I researched the options. A Unisaw was my first choice but if I bought it I was short on funds for an upgrade fence (Beisemeyer) and sliding table. Looking at the hybrid saws brought me to the Jet and the Dewalt. Reviews of the Jet spoke of a quailty machine but with a few shortcomings such as the link belt for blade adjustment. The DW was newer on the market than the Jet so didn't have many reviews. I decided to purchase a recon unit from Toolking for just under 800.00.
The saw arrived in sturdy packing and there was nothing to make me believe it had been reconditioned for any reason. No sawdust, dents, dings etc. A few hours to assemble with decent directions. I had also purchased the 30" Beisemeyer commercial fence and Delta sliding table and Forrest blade. All this took me to under 1500.00 which was the entry level price for the Unisaw.
The saw has seen hundreds of feet of cherry and tiger maple. I built an entire set of kitchen cabinets with melamine boxes and cherry doors. The sliding table was easy to install on the Dewalt. I have not had one single problem or noticed any lack of power or performance.
I made some zero clearance inserts and a large side and outfeed table. The saw comes with some steel units that are rather light weight. The factory fence looks decent although I have never installed it.
My only recommendations for improvement would be to add a 4" or 6" dust port and larger handwheels for blade adjustment. All in all its a great value for the money. Lance A, Chico CA

I studied a long time before buying this saw!My woodworking hobby outgrew my starter saw a few years ago, but circumstances did not allow me to buy a new saw until this year. Since I really wanted to take my time with this decision, I studied the market, put my hands on every saw I could, and read everything I could find on the web about table saw features. Since I work in a library, I also had access to every table saw review in most of the woodworking magazines.
Eventually I came up with the following criteria:
- I have a one car garage for a workshop, so space was a big issue. I was only looking at saws with 30" capacity to the right of the blade. I also limited my search to saws that could be pushed flat against a wall if need be. This left only hybrids and cabinet saws to consider.
- I wanted the most powerful motor I could get without having to switch to 240 volts, yet have the option to rewire the saw for 240v later if I so choose (thus eliminating 3hp saws).
- I wanted a solid fence that was accurate and DID NOT DEFLECT when locked down.
- I wanted some decent dust collection abilities.
- I wanted a quieter saw with less vibration than my old Delta contractor's saw.
- I wanted to spend less than $1000 to get the saw, yet have lots of options for upgrading/outfitting later.
Eventually I chose the DeWalt 746, and here are my observations:
The saw package arrived in relatively undamaged crating (seven days after I ordered it from Amazon), and the saw was in perfect condition. Here's a tip - I ordered this saw over the phone and was given the option to pay $25 to have the saw delivered on the ground in my shop - well worth it! Assembly was not too bad (3 hrs), but the manual could have been a bit better. In my mind it was a bit too small and the illustrations corresponding to each step of assembly were not always on the same page! This saw is heavy and the cabinet/stand is very stiff and strong. I feel that the base of this saw is a much better design than the open stand of my old Delta. The saw also runs very smoothly - it is A LOT quieter than my last saw and vibration is at a minimum. The motor is about as powerful as you can get while running 120v without popping breakers left and right (which I have read is a common problem with the 2hp motors running 120v). I have not had any problems ripping 8/4 white oak with a good sharp blade... Speaking of blades, the one that came with this saw is inferior. I will keep it just for those instances where I want to cut treated lumber for outside projects or some other such task not requiring precision or smooth cuts. I have always wanted a Biesenmeyer fence, but I read good things about the DeWalt fence on this saw and was eager to try it for myself. I am pleased to say that it is a very sturdy (and heavy) fence with some ingenious features. Most importantly this fence operates very smoothly, it does not deflect when locked down, it was easy to adjust square to the miter slot and blade, and zeroing the fence scale could not have been easier. I did have to fuss with it a bit to get the fence face set 90 degree to the table, but once I got it there it seems to hold the setting well. Dust collection on this saw is absolutely excellent. I hooked up my Fein Turbo II vacuum and basically no significant sawdust escapes. I couldn't be happier in that department. As for safety features, I like splitters and hate blade guards so I was pleased to find that the splitter/blade guard on this saw is able to be separated (I did just that). The splitter is easily adjustable and works well.
As far as downsides go... Well, as I mentioned earlier the assembly manual could have been way better and the blade that came with the saw is junk. Also (and I read this several places ahead of time) the table is not absolutely flat. Using a straightedge I found a couple of hollows in the surface. I don't think they are significant enough to throw off the accuracy of what I am doing with this saw, but be forwarned that if you use a tablesaw to cut something more intricate than tenons you may have a problem with this. Unlike other reviewers I didn't have too much of a problem with the steel extension wings that came with this saw. When installed properly are they perfectly level to the main table? Yes. Are they perfectly flat? No, but acceptible for what they are. I wanted a good saw that could be upgraded and these are good enough for temporary use. In fact there are a host of great accessories/upgrades available for this saw. I already installed a cast iron router table wing (made by Bench Dog) and soon I plan to order the DeWalt cast iron wing for the other side of the saw.
When it comes down to it, I am very pleased with this saw. The features all met or exceeded my personal needs. This is important, because I have no doubt I could have gotten a saw that performed nearly as well for a lot less money, but it would have failed to meet one or more of MY criteria. As for the price - I bought mine at a time when the saw was on sale and the mobile base was included (see my separate review of the mobile base). The sale price coupled with Amazon's ongoing deal of 25 dollars off any order over 199 gave me this saw at more than a seventy dollar discount. If your needs are similar to mine, then take a close look at this saw. I highly recommend it!
