I replacd a Ryobi and a DeWalt cordless drill/driver with the 6217DEX - both were old and underpowered. The Makita may cost more than the competition, but look carefully at what you are getting: top notch build quality and features that others don't offer, especially the NiMH batteries! My two older drills were had NiCad's and I have been largely disappointed with the performance of those batteries. The ability to hold a charge and tool run time gets worse with age. I bought the Makita 18V cordless combo about 3 years ago and they came with NiMH batteries - what a world of difference! Excellent run times and no battery problems. I needed a lighter drill/driver for general around the house use and the new Makita was an easy choice, especially after seeing how they have improved the overall design and added features like a rubber grip, selector mode switch for screws or drilling. Add to that a 2-speed gear box and you have a tool that will keep on working for years to come. I look at buying the Makita as a LONG TERM INVESTMENT, not some "use and throw away junk" like you'd find offered from other manufacturers (my DeWalt falls into this category as far as I'm concerned)

I have had my share of "cheap" cordless drills and finally decided to spend my money for a professional model.

And this 12 volt qualifies. This is a fairly heavy 12 volt, but metal gears and a high quality motor weigh more then plastic.

With two Ni-MH battery nickel-metal hydride batteries, this baby has great battery capacity and a longer run time then other battery types. One good thing (or bad, depends) is when the batteries run out of juice, thats it, they run strong right up to the end. Recharge time is fairly quick though, about 30 - 45 minutes. I always have the second battery charge up because of this.

This 12 volt runs circles around other 14.4 volt models I have owned. It has great turning power and the chuck locks tightly around bits.

Bottom line: this is quality tool, built to last many years and it just gives you confidence when you have it in your hand.

I just purchased this drill for some major three and four inch hole saw work that I had to due. The drill is a beast and you definitely need to use the extra handle to hold on when you are using the hole saws. I tried first without and almost snapped my wrist. Great drill.

Picked this up at a local home depot. They were offering it with the belt as part of the package. My father used a Makita 9.6volt for the past 10 years or so and has built houses, barns, you name it with it and it hasn't caused ANY problems. I decided to pick up the 14.4 volt because they were offering it for an unbeatable price--so low the Makita rep was upset at the store haha.

The drill is awesome, solid and the case is big enough to store a flashlight and bits etc...The tool belt is high quality, not some crap you might figure would be thrown in free.

All in all its a good drill and even though its 14.4 it is a hoss.

I have been using the 6824N for a few months now. I must say it is quite reliable and not as noisy as other screwguns. It saves a lot of time. I can fill a 4x12 sheet in about 2 minutes. It is so much faster than using a regular screwdriver. It is very smooth and sets the screws perfectly each time. It is ergonomically well designed, being well balanced in the hand.

I purchased this as an alternative to the DeWalt, I hate DeWalt tools. I did not know what to expect since the stores in my area only sold the DeWalt. I then decided to order this Makita unit. I was supprised that it is powerful and not too heavy or bulky. I used it all day installing garage doors and openers. It drove lag bolts with ease when working on a ladder holding this tool in one hand. Since then I have used it to build several decks. Saves time when driving lags without drilling in advance. Great tool to have.

I install garage doors for a living, and this impact is ideal for this work. Lightweight, plenty of torque, small size gets in tight spaces. I run 5/16 x 1 1/2 lags all day, it works great. If you aren't carefull, it will snap them off!!!! Used to use a standard 1/2 impact, NO MORE, just ordered my second one today. Highly recommend this unit. Davethedoorman.

I bought one on a special as the 5000NBK came out with a light, as I do not work in the dark and my eye sight is 20-20 the 5000NB fit my needs and budget very well. It is powerful, smooth and easy to handle. It just fits my hand and there is no fighting to keep it on the marked line. The lazer light line saws were not to my liking and this saw does all of my fine cutting, so if you see one on closeout, don't hesitate to add it to your toolbox. You won't find a better saw at a better price!

My son asked for this for Christmas. He used one at a friends house and just had to have one. He's checked all the other brands of sanders/polishers and couldn't find one to match this one in ease of use and power. This is a great item to get that guy that "needs" to keep his car shining like brand new. I think I'll borrow it from my son for a sanding project I'm sick of doing by hand.

Ive used this tool for grinding, cutoffs and basic torture, It has performed flawlessly. Great tool.
