i learned my lesson
another great Freud productI used this bit to trim my Trex decking flush. It ate throught the Trex like nothing.
Its the real dealAs the previous reviewer said, this bit comes sharp and stays sharp. I have enjoyed super smooth cuts in flat sawn red oak, quarter sawn white oak, poplar, pine, and walnut. I can't say enough how good this bit is for flush trimming both free hand and in a table.
I highly recommend it!

This is a great bitI used this bit in a 2.25hp router (and Porter-Cable guide bushing) to make some dovetails with a jig. Cuts in quartersawn white oak were super smooth, with hardly any tear-out. I also used this bit in a router table setup, again with a 2.25hp router, and the cuts were just as impressive.
Overall this is a very high quality bit at a very good price. I highly recommend it!

Freud dovetail bit, 1/2" shankWhat can I say?? Fantastic bit, extremely sharp, cut through red quartersawn oak with no chip out at the ends - One of the nicest bits I've used.

Slots have never been easierCutting tounge and groove when replacing floor boards in my 100 year old house, has never been easier since I bought this bit. I set it up on my router table, and go. I cut the boards for my entire upstairs hallway in about 30 minutes, including set up time. Its easy to use and adjust, and comes sharp and ready to use. I bought this bit because of the Freud name, and I'm happy I've stuck with them...

This is a skateboard bearing! 5/16" not quite accurate???If this is a 5/16" modification of a 608 then it might be an excellent bearing for skateboarding, as they use 5/16" axles.
If it's just a plain 608 then oh well, just some incorrect details.

great introductory routerI purchased my DW610 about 5 yr ago as my first router. My only regret was when I gave it away to my brother-in-law after I upgraded to a Bosch 1618 (he's a nice guy and he deserved it). I gave it up after about 2 years as my primary router and it never had any identifiable wear and tear (it's essentially all metal).
The tool had plenty of power for 90% of typical routing needs (roundovers, beads, ogees, and other edge work) and never bogged down even when using the largest bits it could hold. The only limitation to how much wood you could take off in one pass was the wood itself (try hogging off a big chunk and you often get splintering) but if you are in a hurry you could probably do a 1/2" roundover in domestic hardwood without the motor bogging down. The neck of the motor is small enough that I could one-hand it (I have a slightly larger than average male hand) and since I don't yet have a bench with holddowns I did this frequently. The motor does not have soft start and the torque is substantial on startup so I always held it off the work when starting it one-handed.
My only complaint is that the rack and pinion depth adjustment has enough lash that the depth is hard to tweek to the nth degree. I'm really fussy, however and am often trying to adjust router depths to the 1/100 inch range. You can comfortably set it to 1/32 inch accuracy as it's designed.

1st routerMy 1st router was a Black & Decker Industrial fixed-base. It was the Dewalt 610's father. I have been using the 2 routers for 30 years and I sell power tools. The Black & Decker was a Christmas gift from my wife. At the time saws and drills were the extent of my tools. This was the second best gift in my life, the first being my daughter.
When the Black & Decker finally had a field failure, (meaning the armature), I was compelled to replace the tool. I called Black & Decker and was told it was no longer available.... AAHHH! But, they did offer the Dewalt 610. Which was pretty much the same design tool. The armatures were not interchangable and the Dewalt had 1/4" & 1/2" collets!
My 1st thought was, "this tool just keeps getting better".
Now, check this out, the "D" handles provide excellent control when freehand routing, and the motor size is perfect for one-hand routing. I'm saying control and versatility is 5 stars.
Setting the depth-of-cut has never been more accurate with the rack & pinion adjustment. Again, 5 stars.
This router is made of metal, not plastic! It's rock-solid so don't drop it on your foot or fingers. I've used it on the job site and in the shop, and it is "the" WORKHORSE for light to medium chores. You can go from doing inlays to trimming laminates to ogee edge routing to dovetailing and box-jointing.
Durabillity? Again, 5 stars.
I now own many routers, including the soft-start, variable-speed monsters and a few, under ...routers that performed sloppy.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER OWNED A ROUTER, START WITH THIS ROUTER!
If you own and use other routers, add this one to your stable. It's like the less complicated way to rout. OMMMMMM

Baby RouterI use this router for my Dovetailing and drawer fronts. I like the light weight and feel of the handles. When using with the Porter-Cable Dovetail jigs, you can quickly make the dovetails, then use Knob like handles to smoothly turn the router on end to sit down.
It seems to have plenty of power for most bits.

Inexpensive quality with one major problemThe Skil 1840 is one of the least expensive plunge routers you can buy, but the low price tag is not reflected in the quality. The router handles smoothly and doesn't feel "cheap" in any way. The low price does make itself felt, however, in the lack of bells and whistles that are found in higher-end routers. There is no dust extraction system, no soft-start, no multi-position turret.
The most serious flaw with this router, though, is its depth gauge. In a nutshell, depth adjustment is far from accurate, and is best described as "eyeball and guess." If accuracy of depth is important to you, you'll have to make several practice cuts in scrap followed by minute adjustments to get it right. In fact, if accuracy of depth is important to you, you're better off with a different router.
Still, you can't beat the Skil 1840 for value. If you're on a budget and just want a quality router without the extra features, this is the one for you.
Great inexpensive plunge routerThis router has done everything we have thrown at it without any trouble. Our only complaint is it's lack of a larger collet. We are looking for another router now because of that very reason. We need 1/2" capability.
Inexpensive, not cheap.I didn't expect much from this router since it is priced so far below the competition. But I looked at it in the store, and I couldn't find any obvious problems, so I purchased. I have been pleased in every way. I'm a weekend worker, but I am a pretty heavy user in that category, using this tool to make trim and moulding for my hundred year old house. This router gives me more than I need, and hasn't been weak with cherry or oak. It moves smoothly, plunges with fairly high precision, and is not overly loud. I'm very happy.

Information not providedI need to know the specific depth of cut. This product does not list it.
Be respectful of this bitThe bit arrives sharp and well balanced. Always use at a very low speed like a 2 on a scale of 5.
Only in a router table and only when the router and table are securely matched. This puts out a lot and I mean a lot of vibration. If you don't have a better than average table and support system there may be trouble like: The router lock will vibrate loose and the router will slip down into the table so as to put the bearing off your pattern = gouges and flying wood. Then there is the possibility of the vibration loosening the screws that hold your router to the plate in the table. The router will fall into the table and while running tear anything it touches into pieces while you are protecting your eyes and groping for the power switch. Yes! it happened to me and the bit was ruined. I got another one because no one else makes such a heavy duty bit for a router. No problems now that I know how to use thread loc.

Save your lungs and cleanup timeThis little collector works great if you have a powerful dustcollector or shop vac. A very nice addition to your router if you use it a lot and spend hours cleaning up afterwords. It also gets a lot more of the fine dust at the source before its air borne.

Very hard to find aftermarket parts.I agree with the last reviewer 100%. I looked near and far for template guides so I could route out the hinges on some doors I was hanging. This tool would be ideal for the light routing work involved. I looked everywhere for template guides. The manual stated that the same guides that can be used on the 1600 series routers could be used on this trimmer. No universal guides would fit so I went to an authorized Bosch distributor to get them. Even the guides that the employees told me would work did not work. I had little choice but to go out and purchase a new router that could do the job and that had the accessories available. The quality of this trimmer is 5 stars all the way. The accessories are what keeps it from being great all around.
BOSCH LAMINATE TRIMMERI AM A FLOORING SUB-CONTRACTOR AND HAVE USED THIS LAMINATE TRIMMER WHILE INSTALLING LAMINATE FLOORS. I OWN 4 OTHER BOSCH PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF THIER QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. THIER TOOLS PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY ARE SECOND TO NONE AT THIS PRICE RANGE; BUT THE COMPANY GETS LOW MARKS FOR DIFFICULTY IN OBTAINING PARTS AND ACCESSORIES IN THE AFTERMARKET. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I GIVE THIS PRODUCT A 3 STAR RATING.

I think it has improved!I read all the review in Amazon.com about this bit and hesitated to order it. I've had good luck with all the Freud blades in the past so I gave it a try despite all the bad reviews. I put the bit to test as soon as it arrived. Everything fit perfectly. Cut was very good and it is all made in Italy. There is nothing written on the bearing as one reader mentioned that it was made in China. I think may be because of the bad reviews Freud might have made improvement. One thing I still don't know it how long it will last. But looking at fit and finish it looks like a good product.
Good bit...I have used this bit plus bearings many times now. It peforms quite well for its intended purpose.
Obviously Improved And Now Flawless!!I found this in a local store and was able to check it before ordering. The bearings are now all sized to fit the bit without the reducers and associated parts mentioned by earlier reviewers so it is definitely improved. The package has locations to hold each bearing when not in use and the cut is excellent. I have now made hundreds of cuts at various depths and it still cuts beautifully.
i bought this one and finished that project and another with no signs of dulling and this is in oak.
PLEASE DONT BUY THE CHEAPER BITS MADE IN CHINA
Freud is great and will last
