low profile design misleadingIf you want to do some rough grinding this sander can handle the job,but if you want a nice flat smoothly sanded panel,"forget it".This sander is very unstable and I would of given it a lower rating then 1 star by far!

Sub-standard sanding disksWhile building a log home I have tried several different manufacturer's sanding disks (paper/metal) with various grits. I decided to try this product based on the manufacturer's claims. Honestly, I would have to say that I am very disappointed with the results using th Microplane Stainless Steel Sandpaper. I have acheived much better/faster results using the Mirka line of paper sanding disks. The Mirka 60 and 80 take off the sun yellowing and 120 and 150 give you a nice smooth surface ready for polyeurathane.

No batteryThe drill itself feels terrific. Heavy construction, tight tolerances, everything you could want. But what the Amazon page doesn't tell you is that it doesn't include a battery. Suddenly that great savings is not so great. Fully outfitted this will cost you closer to $400.

Not goodPaper falls off after a few minutes of use, then cant be re-attached. I want a paper that comes off when I take it off, not whenever it feels like it..Stick to Norton.

Ryobi DS1100 detail sanderDO NOT BUY THIS SANDER! The manual claims the tip moves 3mm, which is about 1/8 of an inch. In reality it hardly moves at all. I put my finger on the pad and felt vibration but no significant movement. The effect is that if you move the tool back and forth by hand with the tool turned off you get the same result.

Save your moneyI bought this to replace my 5 year old Makita palm sander.
1. It's very, very difficult to attach the sandpaper. I thought my Makita was hard to load but its much easier than this Skil sander.
2. My old Makita is 1.6 amps. The Skil 7290 sander is 2.0 amps. But my ancient Makita palm sander removes material at least twice as fast with 1/2 the effort as the Skil.
3. On the plus side, the dust collection works pretty good and the 7290 is prettier and quieter than my old Makita. Too bad it doesn't work very well. Its not pretty enough to use as a paperweight. I can't think of another use for it.
Save your money.
