Hitachi Review Great rotary hammer
I use this hammer to drive ground rods and it works great. I also use it for drilling holes in concrete. It is well balanced and light. I have used several others and I like this one the best.

Hitachi Review Extremely solid & compact stapler
Several months ago I reviewed the Porter Cable NS150A finish stapler and mentioned the Hitachi N3804AB in that review. At that time, Amazon.com didn't stock the Hitachi stapler, but it does now so here's a review of it.

As you'll notice, the Hitachi N3804AB is expensive, but it's extremely well made in Germany. The ENTIRE stapler is metal, which gives it a very solid feel that translates into less recoil when firing it. It's also super tough. It's a small finish stapler, narrower and shorter than many other brands, and this comes in handy when working in the tight spaces we often encounter on remodeling jobs. Because it has a simple design, it can be disassembled with ease, but more importantly, the safety is completely accessible. Sometimes I need to fire the stapler in a confined space and have to tilt the nose in such a way that the safety can't be fully depressed. I can use my pointer finger to slide the safety mechanism back at a point near the trigger and fire it with my index finger. Some of the other staplers and nailers that I've used have concealed safety mechanisms to prevent people from bypassing them (good from a liability standpoint, but sometimes frustrating for the user).

Another great use for a finish stapler with a safety that can be overridden is to make mini rebar. When I need a durable, non-contracting patch to fill decent sized irregular holes I often use bondo. By holding the stapler a little away from the hole or crack, overriding the safety, and firing, it leaves a bit of the staple's crown exposed. This makes a nice wire armature that helps hold the bondo in place. I suppose the mini rebar could be used with other putties and plasters.

My coworkers and I have been using the N3803AB for several months now and it's been totally reliable. It hasn't misfired even once; although, I did jam it when I fired it directly into a steel joist hanger to see how hard it could drive a staple. The staple formed a pretzel in the firing slot, but I cleared the jam easily with no damage to the stapler. I've used the stapler on a wide range of construction materials, firing 1.5 inch staples into hardwoods, knots, MDF, and cement board with OSB backing, and it has performed perfectly although it likes to run above 90 psi for the denser materials (100-115 psi usually does it).

One day air started to slowly leak out of the exhaust port, so I removed the rear plate and found that a small metal filing had become embedded in an O-ring. Removing the filing fixed the leak. The stapler worked fine despite the leak, and I suspect the filing entered the air intake port during a demolition project. Now I try to store our pneumatic tools in less-dusty areas.

The Hitachi N3804AB worked so well that I decided not to buy a Senco SKS (which are workhorses but bulky) because I haven't encountered a situation where I've needed any more power. The Hitachi N3804AB is a professional grade stapler that's a good investment if you plan to use it often. For occasional or DIY use, a cheaper stapler may make more sense, unless you can find the Hitachi for a really good price.

Hitachi Review Wow! what a great tool!!
Bought this to trim about 100 face boards I added to a horse fence. What a dream. Lots of pickups slowing down to check out this nifty little green devil. When I think of all the applications I could haved used this saw for I wish I'd had it 10 or 15 years ago.

It's a powerful little bugger with very nice ergonomics & at 6 1/2 inches the blade is a handy size for 2X & for 3/4" plywood. It's great not having to deal with the power cord always snaking into your cutting path or not being long enough, to say nothing of the more manageable weight.

The 2Amp batteries have plenty of zip, the charger works fine & quick. Plus I bought the flashlight ($9.99 here on Amazon) to totally drain the batteries so they will take a stronger charge.

Hitachi Review Screws, not glue
Most manufacturers use glue to seal their battery packs so people cannot open them up and replace the individual cells. Instead, when the battery wears out, the owner must pay a fortune to buy a new battery pack. This Hitachi battery is sealed with screws instead of glue! When (not if) it goes bad, open it up, go to Digikey, etc. and buy some replacement cells. It will save you a fortune. Bear in mind that not all Hitachi batteries use screws. For example, the 9.6V pack uses glue. And, as usual, manufacturers change their designs all the time. So if this feature is important for you, be sure to examine the battery pack before buying. And just a footnote, some Porter Cable battery packs also use screws. But the vast majority of battery packs use glue.

Just drilled my first 2.5" hole through an 8" un reinforced concrete foundation. Used a solid core bit from Hitachi and it went through like butter. I have not used it a lot, so I would need another year of use to say it is a good/great rotary hammer. For the value, it is great to date!

Hitachi Review Great choice on Hitachi
I'm just a plain old do it yourself fix up kind of guy for my home. When I decided I was going to learn to install crown moulding in my home, the research started for buying a compound miter saw. I was totaly convinced that I would buy the Bosch because all the controls were up front and handy. My neighbor coincidentally bought one and I watched him "struggle" with the the levers whenever he changed a setting. The more I watched the more it became apparent this wasn't what I wanted. I read reviews on the saw which were mostly favorable, but there was just enough unfavorable reviews that caused me to move on to look at other saws. - "bummer" because I like the design and I do like Bosch tools! I went to my local tool store and asked which were his best selling 10" saws. He said Makita #1, Hitachi #2, and Bosch #3. Long story short, I found each saw at a local hardware store and noticed a lever on the front of the Makita was broken and it seemed to be built cheaply. I saw the Hitachi and it seemed to the best of all - Strong construction plus a lot of positive reviews. I don't like the handle though-seems very cheap.

I bought the Hitachi and as a lot of reviewers said, it came squared and ready to go right out of the box. I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this saw. Remember I am just a do it your-selfer, but it performs great and the angles on my first crown job couln't have been better.

Hitachi Review Don't Settle for less!!
After having used this 72 tooth Carbide Blade, I wonder why people would buy any other blade. I bought this blade with my Hitachi 10" ( another great Product) Miter Saw. The smoothness of the cut is just unbelievable. yes, this is one is a bit ... but it's a carbide coated blade so it will last longer too..

Hitachi Review Over 10 years and going strong
I purchased my Hitachi 9.6 in about 1993, and to this day it has never let me down. I have used it almost daily, and the only problem I have experienced was today. I just moved 1500 miles, and can't find my charger.I've looked at other higher voltage drills, but have stayed with the lighter weight 9.6 volt.If I could find the charger,I'd never let it go.***UPDATE*** June 06 I found the charger, and the Hitachi is humming again. Glad I didn't buy another one.

Hitachi Review Low-cost Breaking Power
This is a replacement for the bull point that came with my Hitachi H65. The first time I used that chisel, I snapped the tip off because I carelessly failed to read the instructions and mounted the chisel incorrectly. After grinding it for nearly an hour I got an acceptable point but not as good as the original. This new bull point is four inches longer than my first one but is otherwise the same. I like the extra height I get and the factory point readily takes out 2-4 inch aged concrete. This is a really high-tolerance forging at a great price, especially since it's US made.
